Hi Saurabh,

I am not sure whether I understood the question correctly. But I will make an attempt to answer your query. Please understand that the crafting of Focussed programs is done inorder to cater to specific needs of industry. For Example : A Capital Market Candidate fits in for a Equity Research company, A Global candidates fits in for International Trades, A Banking Candidate fits in for a Banking Organisation however it does not mean that Cap Mar does not fit in Banking or Core does not fit in Banking or Equity Research.

A candidates selection in a particular company depends partially on his specialization in terms of his oppurtunity to sit for the company's selection process and companys pooling process. However, after this point your subject knowledge and profile matching plays the most important role.

MBA-Core is a 27 year old established brand and is more visible and known to corporates as compared to MBA-Focussed. MBA-Focussed is also being recieved well by the industry as seen in the placement stats. Hence return on investment can only be calculated only once a candidate is placed which is not dependent on the specialization as I mentioned above.

I agree ROI is an important parameter while you choose a course but at the same time do make sure you choose a course of your interest. If done you reap long term benefits.

Hope I answered your query. All the Best!!!

If t his info' is already present somewhere pls provide me the link for the same.. but whatever I have gone through at NMIMS site, I am not able to get the idea..
Hope u got the question this time.

hi saurabh,

let me clear one thing plz do not compare the courses.

MBA core and the 6 MBA focus programs are really good courses.

but for your comparison

Sectoral specialisation means high domain knowledge..

MBA core and 6 MBA sectoral have same fee, same teachers, almost same subjects, both had 100% placements

NMIMS is a great college and perhaps only to place more than 400 students in a week with average salary of 9 lpa.

regarding avg placements for batch of 2008

MBA core-11 lpa
MBA capital markets-10 lpa
MBA global business- 9.5 lpa
MBA services management- 8.5 lpa
MBA actuarial science - 8.5 lpa
MBA retail management- 7.5 lpa
MBA pharma management- 5 lpa
MBA banking - first batch will pass out in 2009

all the courses are really good in content and relevance to industry...

if u r lookin for kinda generalised course then opt fr MBA global ,MBA services or MBA retail....

else if u wan a highly specialised course in finance then go fr MBA actuarials, MBA capital markets, MBA banking...

As far as industry acceptance is concerned, there are various B-Skools running such courses,

we already have courses in:

MBA IB running at SIIB,IIFT
MBA Services management running at FMS and
MBA Retail running at KJ somayya, etc

also it is highly advisable to have workex as it enhances ur placements and understanding of subjects, but good no of freshers were also taken in these courses to have a balanced batch...

in regard to work ex, we have ppl in all the courses from various background... rit from IT,Media,Hospitality,Analytics, Consulting,Manufacturing to Biotechnologists.....

Narsee monjee started to have separate exams from last year ie 2007.

before that there was a common exam for MBA core and MBA focussed programmes.

last year, NMAT sectoral (in feb) was same as on lines of NMAT core (in dec), as far as cut offs are concerned

MBA global business - closed at rank 67
MBA banking - closed at rank 102
MBA services manangement and retail - closed around rank 182 (not sure of exact numbers)

regarding the exams pattern:

1) NMAT (core programme) - exam conducted in dec,
---1 MBA course, 240 seats

2) NMAT (sectoral programmes) - exam conducted in jan,
---7 MBA courses, 210 seats ( 30 seats per focussed MBA course)

both the exams have same pattern n sections ie english, di & lr , quant...

freshers are eligible for both exams, but work ex is preferred.

MBA services management:
first year contains general management subjects..in second year choose btw Marketing, finance, operations, HR, IT for 1 major specialisation and Services management as other specialisation. Also u r taught one foreign language.

MBA retail management:
first year contains general management subjects though mainly retail subjects, second year it has Marketing, finance, operations, HR, IT.

MBA capital markets:
hard core finance, investment banking, venture capital, etc.. certifiactions with BSE.

MBA global business :
first year contains general management subjects, second year concetrates on International business and related finance, marketing, operations subjects. Also u r taught two foreign languages.

MBA banking:
first year contains general management subjects, second year has subjects on banking marketing, operations, finance, operations.

MBA actuarial science:
based on actuary science n management, includes general management subjects and ASI papers n international certifications too.

Re: [2009-11]NMIMS - Queries - 05-09-2008, 08:58 AM

Hi Folks,
I have a few queries...
1. Do we have to register first for the NMAT and then make the payment or is it the vice versa?
2. Do we have to take the printout of the Axis Bank transaction slip and then take it across to the bank or it will be provided at the bank (similar to CAT)?
3. Can I directly pay the fees at NMIMS?
4. Can I take the printout later once I've registered from home.. as in from a different location (office)?

Thanks in advance...

Hi Praj,

1 You need to register for NMAT and then make the payment.
2 You need to print it and then take it to AXIS Bank.
3 No you cannot make the payment at NMIMS. You have the options to pay by cash at AXIS Bank, Credit Card online and Demand Draft.
4 Yes, you can register and then take the print later by loggin in with your ID.

Please follow the instructions properly while filling the form. All the Best!!!

@Shekhar: The cost of the application form is Rs1600. ...
I guess they will still be charging you some 1000 more if you clear the written and wish to appear for the GDPI round

Re: [2009-11]NMIMS - Queries - 07-09-2008, 11:06 AM

Hi,

I am still not convinced if GK is there or not in this year's NMAT..I wonder what happened..last year the complete format with the breakup of sections and all were done in a systematic way on the NM website..this year if I compare the online application of NMAT and SNAP I see the latter displaying the paper pattern but not the former. Hence, I am really not sure if GK makes a re-appearance this year as it was there till 2006 and only last year I didn't find it. Posts in this thread don't give me a definite answer hence asking it again. I am targetting this exam a bit higher than even CAT and hence wanted to be completely convinced that GK isn't there coz I know how good my GK would be..

Clarification on the above is appreciated please...

lemme xplain few things:

1. Last yr the paper was of 2hrs ..d didnt have GK...Now dis yr as i found from our website its goin to be a 2.5 hrs paper...so one cant tell wid certainty tat GK wont b der...logically it looks like tat GK wont b der..But cant b certain...so GK may b der

2. website metions tat brochure can b downloded....and NMIMS brochure always contain the pattern of xam....if dey havent changed tat policy dis yr...

3. y u ppl r so much bothered abt GK...if GK is der will u ppl start mugging up from some GK book?? bliv me it will never work...never...if u want to be gud in GK read news papers...a must..read all sortta suffs..rite from biz to sports to politics...it will not only build ur GK but also reading newpaper is must fro GD/PI...so newaz u ppl have to read Newspapers and if u do tata diligently den u dont need to bother abt whether GK wud be der in NMAT or not...

Chillax now and pay more attention to QA, DI and Eng rather than worrying abt whether GK wud b der or not

Hope m clear

Thanks a lot for a very prompt response. I have gone through the e-brochure now and found out that the pattern is ditto like last year and ya I will keep your valuable advice in mind. General Awareness can never be ignored if one is aiming for MBA..I agree with you..it is a "must be" at any stage in life actually. So now I better do away with this laziness of not reading newspapers and resorting to shortcut prep of Gen Awareness

Hey Friends,

Attached is the Prospectus for 2009 which clearly mentions the selection process and the exam pattern. The prospectus clearly mentions no GK section, It also contains Section Splits for the exam.

All the Best!!!
