Hi PRATEEK
could anybody tell me what do you mean by sectional cuttof predicted by TIME
is that mean to qualify or for IITB
i am getting 9.5 in VA thouh my Overall score is 72
is 9.5 enough to qualify?
simply because TIME predicted 12 which is 40% of 30
even IIM has 30% sectional cuttoff per section
please give your inputs

Hi, i would say, the sectional cutoffs would be not that high, last time sectional cutoff for VA was 6 out of 40 so i dont think it might change drastically, i dont think that less score in VA would ruin your chances. All the best, i hope at 72 you just make it to IIT Bombay........
And please ask queries related to IIT Roorkee only on this thread, for general queries please use JMET thread itself or PM me
Regards

1. Please restrict your queries related to IITR only on this thread. Irrelevant posts adds onto the thread length makes it difficult to find relevant information for someone who joins tracks the thread lately.
2. Regarding your IITB doubt, to best of my memory, IITB last year called only up till 297 rank or so, with sectional cut-offs and no relevance to work-ex.. (this is my guess).
Work-ex increases your chances of final selection but I doubt if it helps in initial shortlisting. Each IIT has a separate method for shortlisting, and therefore you should check the respective threads. Regarding Roorkee, I can tell you that work ex counted and sectional cut-off were not taken into consideration until last year.
3. Prateek, can we ensure that we dont answer any further queries related to IITB on this thread and restrict it DoMS, IITR only.

Hi guyz,
IITR no doubt is a great college but just coz I am having 2.7 years of work-ex in one of the top 3 indian IT firm, i want some suggestions from the current students.
I am having 2.7 years of work-ex in one of the top 3 indian IT firm.
If I make it to IITR will it be better if i join or shud I aim higher?
Though it's an indivudualistic decision but I hope many of you must have gone thru this dilemma last year before joining...
cheers!

We have students from the top firms with more than 5 years experience as well, at the end of the day, its your personal call, but you can aim for moon too......... take wise decision. decide what is good for you, consider all the pros and cons....Few students have left IMT, NMIMS and other good B-Schools as well (entirely personal decision).....
All the best for your future......

Thnx for the reply prateek !
I was searching thru the IITR site but not able to find avg package figure but read in one of the post that it was 7+ last year.
Now in the current global scenario where even some iims are also struggling to lure the companies for summer internships and placements, IITR is no exception.
But still how do u see IITR in the coming 1-2 years as far as Placements packages and company profiles are concerned.
regards,
Pushkar
