Hi..
I would like to reply.
I have worked as a Part Time faculty for the one of the most reputed CAT training centre at Hyderabad.
Before I appeared for the GD/PIs at IITs, I heard a similer FREE INPUTS from the institute that I worked for. They used to give so much comparative GYAAN about IITs & other B schools. When questioned on what basis they are comparing (such as tech inst. into business may not be good, packages etc.), they didn't had any sound info. They too were dependant on external source, without checking to what extent it was correct.
I appeared for GD/PIs. All I infered from my stay & visit to IITs was that the info I received from the institute I worked with was completely baseless. Their info was 2-3 years old when IITs were just kids of age 2-3 years. Gone are the times. The IITs were best to utilise the economic growth. Coupled with stringent norms in selecting the students, the curriculum, the professors, the students' performance post joining have all contributed to the rise of IITs.
There were a few glitches in the beginning of IITs. Most of the IITs started in the year 2001. Their first batches passed out in the year 2003, the time of recession. Hence, they had a few problems. But by 2004-05, IITs started doing very well & the growth was phenominal since then. However, these institutes never marketed about their growth. Hence many people had the same data of 2003-2004.
Coming to the question of IIT students joining IITs for MBA, yes, the story of IIT students joining IITs has already started. I recommend you not only the SJMSOM site but all IIT websites and check the batch profiles. You'll find that, at all IITs there are IIT B. Tech students. Most of the other students are from the highly reputed Engg colleges of the country such as NITs, NSIT, BITS, KNIT, HBTI, DCE, VIT, IT-BHU, ISM etc.
Do a bit R & D on these things, give JMET & think of the rest. Please do not have any pre-conceived notions (whether good or bad) about any institute. As a former faculty, I recommend you to appear for JMET without any hesitation or doubt.
I wish you all the best.
