[2009-11]DMS, IIT Delhi-Admission Queries

hi guys....i hav a query regarding eligibilty in IITB and IITD
I have done my btech from NIT/REC allahabad in 2007 (comp sc) with CPI 6.20....in IITB they are demanding cgpa 6.50 out of 10 and in IITD its 6.75 out of 10....In our colg thr was no CGPA it was CPI and in grading system we get grades A,B,C,D
if one gets A in all subjects his/her CPI is 10 on 10
if one gets B in all the sub then its 8 out of 10
if one gets C in all the sub then its 6 out of 10
if one gets D in all the sub then its 4 out of 10

But in CGPA system the pointers one can get is 10,9,8,7....
so CPI is different than CGPA...
And i hav 6.20 CPI and according to our colg conversion rule it is equivalent to 62% ....m i eligible for IITB And IITD???

AFAIK the conversion factor overrules the CGA/CPI because the percentage should satisfy the criteria. All you will be needing is any document stating the convertion factor used at your college.

Do i need to send this conversion certificate whicle sending the application form for Jmet or while applying to IITD seperately for counselling

Send conversion certificate with form of IIT Delhi.
Is your percentage mentioned anywhere in your marksheet or transcript ?
Normally colleges mention equivalent percentage in transcripts, atleast my college did so.

I had a query regarding the Interview process at IITs. Are the interviews more on the technical side or are they inclined towards the industry, i mean like general interviews at other B schools. I am particularly asking for people with work ex ?

Interviews are more of general Business awareness and very rarely is it technical. Having said that everything can be expected and one should be prepared to face the worst.

Good work viral n fultoo...jus 2 add to ur pts, gen awareness is stressed a lot in DMS interviews. I had a little bit of technical qns in all other iit interviews, but here it was based purely on business awareness and my work experience.However dont generalize and be prepared for any technical, esp ur fave sub...
p.s. For fresher junta, u cud be seriously grilled on ur acads,but gen and biz awareness is equally important for u

It depends on ur luck ! ! !

See whatever interviews i faced from XLRI to IMT to all IIT, there was no particular trend in any of the interviews.

I did my BE in EC and 3 years of work ex in Telecom Domain for Nokia Siemens.

I will rather divide in 4 categories

1) Knowledge abt urself : SWOT analysis. Goal , Path to achieve it.
Major Successes , Major Failures.

2) Questions won General Awareness abt India, My State , My City , My University ... So Be thorough with your background.In XIMB interview i was asked when was Victoria Memorial built, i said my hobby is travellin and i ahve been to Kolkatta.

3) Work Ex : Questions related to what wokr you do, problems you faced, learnings (not technical learnings ).

4) Technical Questions : U can be asked anything under the sun. In IMT interview, i was asked questions on Electronics. In IIT Mumbai , abt Engg Drawing, Isometric View, Working of generator,Fan, Electical Systems,Gears(i was screwed). In IIT Kanpur, questions on fourier transforms, Laws of physics, though i was asked anything technical.

So questions vary from college to college and from one panel to another in same college.

After JMET and CAT, you will get sufficient time to prepare all this, so its better you concentrate on JMET and CAT...... Everything will be in place in due to course of time.

also can i provide new one at the time of the intyerview??

hi bond,
i think u cud use the same certificate, however i am not too sure...since IITK is the organizing institute, u can call them up and find out...u'll get the number from their website...
