Re: [2009]Admission Queries for MBA @ IITK: 2009-2011 - 26-03-2009, 10:09 AM

Hi

My appology for the delay in posting my experiences

But one statement for the process

" IIT K ROCKS"

immaculate process
unmatched management
amazing students
awesome campus
.
.
.
the list continues

But above all the aura of the place and the energy of the students that carried out the process wud be a example for many other colleges to copy.

Being there felt as if I am sitting for placements in my college rather than admission to another college.

the description of the process will not be complete till I mention a few names in it

Amit Satya ( A satya): a never ending stock of jokes and apetite for pranthas and chais and cold drinks and tennis and food.

Abhinaya: my mentor for the day a person ready with gyan about every and any thing in this world. Made sure that the group was intact and helped through out.

Bapa: Our guide for the day.

I cannot recount all by the name but every one of u deserves a special mention

thanks to all you seniors there
keep rockn

I need to email one of the documents that I couldn't submit at the time of GD process.
I tried looking for it, but couldn't find any admission specific email ID.
Kindly inform me about which Id to send the scanned copy.

Thanks,

Hi Telling my GDPI experiences. Sorry for posting late. May be next yr ppl may find it useful;
Special thanks to Sumit , Abhinaya , Zubin , Siddharth and others involve with admission committee for
making process smooth and comfortable.

Now i dont know what to make up of such an experience..seniors what is your take on this one?
do i stand a chance with such GD/PI and XX Years of work ex..
Venue: IIT Kanpur,23rd March,1:00 PM (panel 3)
JMET rank 1398
Work ex : XX months in IT sector

The GD was on case study regarding the appraisal system especially the forced ranking system adopted by GE .
If not solving any purpose then What should be done about it and few other questions in the case study itself ..
7 minutes to read the case ..then 2 minutes of monologue in random order and 6 minutes of common discussion.
It was not a fish market. We were asked not to mark anythin on the sheet . I got stuck for a word due to this during my 2 minutes time
and took couple of seconds to start again but then finished without any fumble....the topic was relevant for working guys but freshers
had no idea about it...few stopped even before there 2 minutes are over...
i completed just in time and also came in 2-3 times during common discussion.

i was in panel 3 for PI..
O : an old professor
S: another middle aged professor with turban
P: middle aged professor.
Me : Myself

O: So you did your engg. in ECE from NIT kurukshetra in 200X.. Thats almost YY years now
Me: Yes sir ..its XX years to be precise.
O: So you want to do an MBA now
Me : Yes sir i want to do an MBA.
P: Would you like to have some fruits ?
Me: No thank you sir i just had few while waiting outside.
P: You had your lunch?
Me: Yes sir i had my lunch at 12:30 before leaving for GD/PI at 12:45
O: So you have been at onsite for 2 years. where were you located?
Me: Sir i was in Newyork , USA
O: Where in Newyork?
Me: Sir my office was in Manhattan and i was living in Newjersey.
O: There is no place to live in Manhattan.
Me: Sir there is residential space but too costly and rush of life is there.
O: So how you come to work?
Me: Sir i take NJ transit (train) as it was the cheapest and fastest mode available.
O: So you come to times square and then go to office?
Me: No sir i came to WTO as my office was at wall street and then i walk to my office.
P: What all calls do you have?
Me: Told
P: Where will you go?
Me: Told ..
P: After so long you must have forgotton about your electronics subjects?
Me: Though i dont remember everything but i can try to respond if you wish to ask me anything.
P:No i was just talking..no questions
O: So tell me about random number...what do you mean by random number?
Me: Tried to give a definition...saying it is generated using algorithms..
S: started to interrupt but O said that i have already told that a logic is used to generate it and so he stopped.
O: So can you elaborate about it?
Me: I gave him an example where random number is generated and used as Key.
O: Using as key tells me that it is a unique number...any other place where it is not unique.
Me: I gave him another example where unique number is used in lottery event.
O looked very satisfied and happy with the examples and then told me that there is a theory that was developed and random numbers
are result of that theory. Much money was invested in theory.. and that i gave good examples of its application.
Me: Sir the money invested is reaping benefits as it is widely used now in various fields.
O: Very true.
S: Ok ..tell me how you will calculate the volume of water present in glass placed on the interview table ?
Me ; Sir i will place a heater ( tried to give a out of box approach)..interrupted by S.
S: Leave heater...whats the other way for it?
Me: Sir i will measure the dimensions and calculate volume
S: Marks signs on piece a paper and ask me to use it as a scale and calculate volume
Me : i told him about outer radius and inner radius of glass and then using height of glass to calculate volume of cylindrical glass.
S: is it a cylindrical object?
Me: Sir its not but to calculation we can approx it to be cylindrical because its a prism with circular base.
S: ok ...instead of taking r ,h and t for radius , height and thickness use some values as 20cm , 8 cm and 4 cm and calculate the volume
Me : i did and gave him a value
S: What is the potential error in this?
Me: Sir i dont remember it exactly but i would take the precision of scale used and cube it because the formula has R*R*h( 3 dimension in product).
S: Heard me and then said ok
All three looked at each other and said Thank you ...you may leave now..
