Can anyone please tell me what is the cut-off last yr to get a call from DOMS, IIT-M.
Also, how far does the academics help in getting the call. I'm having around 90 % in my SSC, HSC, Grads.... Thanks in advance

Hi all,
I would advise you all to please go through the thread once before asking your queries and check whether they have been answered or not.
In a case the query has been answered multiple times, it may become quite nonsensical to answer the same over and over again, especially if we are busy enough with our schedules...
However, since we would not like to disappoint anyone, here is the answerr again, as given by Karan in one of the earlier pages -
"The criteria may vary from year to year. Last year, work experience was indeed considered along with the JMET score while giving the GT/PI calls. But it was just the number of years that were considered and not the work profile.
Last year's approximate stats went like this:
Last rank for freshers<1100
Last rank for people with one year experience<1250
Last rank for people with two or more years of experience<1400"
Hope that helps..!!!
All the best to all for the exam(s) season..!!!

The cutoff ranks which you have mentioned are for the final selection or for giving calls for GD/PI???If for GDPI,No information about the work experience was asked in the application form.
Kindly clarify me on this..
also please do mention the cutoff ranks for the admission to IIT-B.I would be grateful to you

Hi Lingadhar,
The cut offs mentioned are for the GD/PI calls only. The final score (after GD/PI) is something you will never come to know.:innocent:
They asked you about your graduation year, right??? So they have a pretty decent idea on what is the work experience of a guy, which they inquire later on (during the GD/PI process).
The reason of not asking the work experience details upfront is just that, at DoMS, we don't want to go through pages of details earlier than it's required.
However, it might happen in a rare case, that a person whose graduating year is (let's say) 2008 comes for GD/PI in 2009 and he has no work experience at all!!! Thus, in assuming that he has got 1 year of work experience while giving out calls might not be the best strategy.
But we have suggested this to our faculty and we hope to get at least some information regarding work experience this time onwards... Let's wait and watch.:bday:
Hope all this helps...

Hi Maverick,
Thanks for your reply..
Is this strategy followed across all the IITs or only by DoMS,Chennai in giving calls??
I fall in the exceptional case mentioned by you regarding the work experience i.e i passed out in the year 2005,But i ve 2 years of experience with the gap of 1 year. How does it makes sense by considering my experience as 3 years without any proper testimonials..

This is not any sort of strategy. Each IIT will individually ask you about your work experience and other details later in its own form that you will fill if you get shortlisted after the JMET exam. Only after going through these forms and looking at your JMET rank and profile will you get a call.
So before the written results are out, such data doesn't matter. Moreover, if you get a call for GT/PI after the written exam, you can clarify this further in the interviews.

hi IITians..
(yeah im a big fan of u guys..)
jus wanna ask u pple some strategeis to tc of the jmet..
it looks pretty tough.. specially d quant section
also i have read at many threads d overall cut off for all IITs
jus wana knw(if possible) how much do u need to score in sections other then quant.. bcoz seniors advise not to bank on quant too much..
so wat r d scores in other sections which will help u to get throu...
definately its a brain wrecking paper..
if in english u manage to score around 10.. DI 10-20
LR 10 20.. which mean a score of 10 +15+15=40 n say v get 5 in quant
so total of 45.. so is der any hope of geting calls... taking into account all
d cutt of scores for previous years...
though i guess every year it will vary due to the paper set change...
n so will d cut off

You are right about the varying cut-offs. For instance, for us in JMET 2007 the individual cut-offs and scores for all sections were a tad higher than those for our juniors in JMET 2008 because theirs was a little bit tougher paper. So all this cut-off and call-from-IITs thing depends on how the entire junta performs in the paper and there is really no point predicting anything until you have given the test.
And the strategy also keeps on changing from person to person. I gather from the others in my batch that some of us had cracked the Verbal section, me included, while others had really cracked the DI section. So it also depends on your strengths. Quant might be a bit tough, but you can't ignore it because since the past 2 years there are section cut-offs as well.
But finally it's really no use thinking about such things before the paper. Because each year the difficulty level of the paper keeps changing. So simply prepare for the paper and crack it on the D-day. All the best
