Hello Everybody,

Plz guide me about what exactly an MBA from IIT is all about. I have heard that it is preferable only when one wants to make career in production managerial fields, I mean fields related to engg. line. But I want to go for banking or marketing field. Is IIT good place for me?
Also tell me about the interview, is it very much technical in nature?

My JMET rank is 3097 (OBC)
My cat percentile is 98.37 with
QA-93.9
LR-95.86
VA-95.87

X-83.4
XII-62.6
Engg-76.44

My XII marks are low, and had a backlog in engg in 1st year which i cleared immediately in next sem (was in bit of probs in XII and engg 1st yr). Grad % is highest in univ, but no gold medals as i had flunked in 2nd sem.

Have 2+ yrs exp too in HP R&D.

How much do the past acads matter? what are my chances?

In my opinion,you should definitely get a call based on your CAT score.
Academics do matter, but if you can justify your marks,you should not have any problems getting through.
And looking at how you have turned things around since your second year, I believe you would be able to justify.
Prepare your SOP well and prepare well fr the interview too.

Hi,
I can assure you that MBA at IIT (at least for IIT Madras) is not typically for production management fields only.
Students here go for specializations like finance,marketing, consulting, IT, etc. And our placements are also in various domains, including banking, marketing, IT,etc. You can check the website for details and find out for yourself that it is an amazing place for you.

And regarding the interview, it depends on how you drive your interview.

I haven't applied for JMET exam at all. But I my CAT score is 98 percentile with more than 90percentile in all sections. Can I also availa this opportunity for applying to IITM with CAT scores? If so how.. please respond. Thanks in advance.

Was going thru a few bschool rankings and most of them didnt have iit m in them...is it because iit m doesnt participate in them???

Well,IIT Madras doesn't believe in rankings because it has a stature of its own.Come to IIT M and you will understand what I mean.Its heaven!
