Hii,

I have JMET AIR-1971.. have 1.5 yrs work-ex.. last 8 months as a business Analyst. Decent Acads (nothing high-flying)... fairly good Extra-curricular..

Is there any chance. Is it worth applying and testing waters. Have appeared in CAT too n expecting %tile 91-94..

Going by last year's figures, your rank may fall a little short. However, institutes adopt different policies every year and no one knows what shortlisting criteria is going to be used by IIT Madras this year. So, it is always better to be on the safer side. Wait for the CAT result. You never know... it may turn your confusion into clarity.

Hi all,
To add to the previous information,I think this will help answering the queries of some of the aspirants:

1)As mentioned,this year best of one's JMET rank and CAT percentile will be considered.Apart from this,the other factors for getting a GT/PI call are Work Ex ,Category of the student,and one's overall profile.

2)The cut-offs for previous year is no indicator for this year as this depends on the no. of applicants and the no. of seats(which will be increased this year).

3)Last year,the cut-offs were as follows:

For GEN category,
upto 1000 (for freshers)
1000-1200(for people with 1 year work ex)
1200-1500(for people with atleast 2 years work ex)
NOTE: some of the candidates had even 5 years work ex

For SC category,the cut-off was 10000
For PH category,the cut-off was 10000
For ST category,the cut-off was 11000

The issue of OBC had come up after the calls were given and later on it was seen that the students belonging to OBC who had got calls were already fulfilling the criteria(non-creamy layer) as laid down by Govt. Hence,no separate cut-off list was there for OBC.

Since,so many factors contribute towards getting a call I would advice most of the aspirants who think they might get a call to apply to DoMS and give it a try.All the Best to all of you!

I have a small request, is it possible to clarify the CAT and JMET confusion for admission? There are no instructions on the website...
I have given both but i am not expecting a very good score in CAT, is it mandatory to give both the results?
Also, Do the copies have to be attested by a gazzeted officer?

Hi All,

It seems that many of you are concerned regarding how will the institute maintain parity between CAT and JMET score.

A statistical process called normalization will be used for it which will tell us that what JMET rank is equivalent to what CAT percentile. Rest assured that the process will be fair as we at DoMS are lucky to have some of the best profs in this domain.

So, the final cutoffs for GT/PI calls will look like JMET AIR= ABCD and CAT Score= XY.PQ . If you qualify under any of the criteria, you will be called.

We have also requested our admission office to put a detailed explanation in this regard.

Regarding last year's seats, we originally had 60 seats with 22.5 % quota for SC/ST. So, we had arnd 46 gen category seats. After the final results were declared on April 9, 2008 Supreme Court verdict for OBC quota was issues. Results were withdrawn on April 11th and a final list was again issued on May 9 with 7 additional OBC students. So, the batch strength was 67. 2 people withdrew at the last moment and 65 people finally joined the batch.

Photocopies have to be attested by gazzeted officer.
