Hi

You dont have to come to pune for bridge course. ull receive your course materials by post. thats what happnd last year. i dont think there will much change this time. i have no idea if your batch has been send any mail so far or not, probably e-mails from the institute will start in May only.

hostel allocation list will probably come in 3rd week of May...its my guess, not confirmed. you have to contact the institute regarding the exact date. but dont worry. you will get plenty of timeto find a PG if you dont get hostel.

last year hostel+mess fee was 54K [triple sharing, veg], double sharing/non-veg/double sharing+nonveg were silghtly more than that,i dont remember the exact fee for each of those combo. this time you can expect a slightly increasing trend in everything. you will be geting all confirmed fee related details along with the hostel allocation list.

you have seen your seniors in unifrom during GD-PI...that's the special dress code. you will get it from the institute itself. other than that, daily dress code is all formal. but that code will be decided by your seniors or by your batch..whoever takes the charge.

n you dont have to thank me for anything. if really feel thankful, do a better job than what im doing when you come here. i will really appreciate that.

hope it helps.

Hi

cant wait to start studying...!!!! that bridge course is more than enough. you will have exam on it. if nothing changes this time then as a part of the bridge course you will be receiving ms-office related materials which one needs to practice. not only ms office, get familiar with handling laptop if you are not very comfortable with it [i mean more than orkut and emails]...laptop will be your life-partner here. you need to get along to go along.also if you can learrn things like ms project that will be helpfull for you later on...this will take up all the time.

and if you really want to study a lot then there are few options...

1: you can read on healthcare sector and its different domains, latest data, business reviews, future trends, case studies etc. just like the way you might have prepared for GD-PI. it will come handy if you start now and continue for the next two years. its a huge sector, so you will never run out of news to study.
2: you can try reading basic management books, economics, basic statistics...they will help you later during the course.
3: communication, soft skills etc, if u are not so good in it.
3: management is an art and science that you need to understand and build up your own thought process.read books on management issues [not the subject books]. it will develop your managerial thought process. like, i prefer crime thriller...they teach really solid management fundas and logics if you know how to extract them. you can also have a look at subjects like sociology, psychology etc [basics only], its important for a good manager to understand human-behaviour. they will help you throughout your career.

but i truly suggest...take a chill-pill and njoy as much you can. once you start here, there wont be much of free time. you can study your heart/brain out then.

Have Fun

Hi

sorry...i wont be able to comment on placement. if you really need to know, you have to find it out from the institute.

you have already taken admission...then why bother about it?

HI old monk,
thanx for those quick replies.
want to ask u few more things
1) is laptop included in college fee? if not then is it ok to buy it from outside or shall I wait till college gives us configuaration of it.
2) i have heard tht ( from SITM people) later on even college offers you to buy laptop from them for which we have to place order in a bulk i guess?
is it better option to buy from college ? did they offer same to ur or ur junior batch?
3) and is wi fi facility available in hostel too?
thanx.

Hi

ill try to put a separate posting on laptop...

to answer your queries [based on exp till last year]:

1) laptop is not included in your fee unless this year they have specified in your fee-chalan. im sure you wont find any mention of it there.
2)it is always ok to buy from outside. insitute wont give you any specification of any kind [i might give]. you are free to choose your own laptop-make-specification. i dont think college will arrange any laptop-sale, so it wont be wise to depend on them too much. as far as laptop is concerned, institute dint offer anything to either batches.
3) institute building and hostel both are wifi enabled. its secure line, speed is good, unlimited access [as of now]. so you dont have to buy any personal connection. but most of the fun sites like orkut, youtube are blocked...[firewall setting is strong and they update it regularly. so proxies are of no use.]..you might give a thought to that.

hope that helps

Re: Sihs: Admission 2009 - 2011 Mba-hospital And Healthcare [mba-hhc] - 10-05-2009, 11:21 AM

LAPTOP:

your lapto will be your soulmate here.90% of your course work will done in it. so it's wise to find a proper one. generally you will find classification based on there configuration and usage patern...business/entrtnmnt etc. you needs lotsa market research to find which suits your usage and your budget.

which company...upto you. my preference list is Hp>Dell>Toshiba>Compaq>lenovo...but its my own preference list based on my personal likes and dislikes. a good market research based on your likes-dislikes will help you a lot.

Vista will be bettr choice over Xp, even for those who are not so comfortable with computer.

intel or AMD...im not the right person to judge. there are other fourms available for this issues. but generally i havnt seen any difference between those two that can be found with naked eyes. even its very difficult to compare, based on the usage we have here, difrnce between dual core/core2duo etc. just make sure it has speed of 1.7 GHz or more. 1 GB RAM is required for Vista, additional graphics card will be helpfull for display and gaming purpose. hard disk is like money...you can never have enough...120Gb or 320GB...you will run out of it sooner or later.

it HAS TO BE WiFi enabled. bluetooth-camera-speaker etc etc is your own choice.

the work you will be doing here is making ppt/word doc etc. maximum, you might hav to work on some statistical software. a full semester materials can be of 4-5 GB max [for a very studious person]...a simple laptop will do. other than that if you are a movie/game buff or a tech-geek, you might prefer some exotic laptop.

you might be able to get few free things with your laptop...make sure you get/buy a pen-drive[USB thumb drive]. you gonna need it.

anyway, all you need is to find out what you want and do lots of market research. everything is available online, so it wont be difficult for you.

Happy Hunting
