Hii

you have raised a right question. though its a management course, the end products of it, managers, has to make it in the healthcare industry. now if you have a close look at the industry you will see it has a complete different requirement from any other general industry. here domian knowledge is more prefered. ill give an eg...say pharma. you become a product manager of some big pharma company. now your daily work will be so much influenced by basic pharma subjects along with your management skills, that you wud wish you were a pharma grad. its not that hard to learn...its not difficult or complex either. but why would any company give you time to learn if they can get readymade candidate with basic pharma knowledge?? this is ofcourse is a very general eg. you will find plenty of non-pharma guys in any big pharma company. that management skill part has the biggest share during the placement process.

if you are approached by a marketing person, who is a History Hons + MBA, of some medical equipment company and he starts explaining you about the electronics part of it, wont you think ..."what the hell does he know about medical electronics? " [just an eg, my knowledge of med-elec is zero]. so companies hav to think from the same angle. a candidate with suprb marketing skill but no med-elec knowledge can also make it to the job...that depends on how good his marketing skill is and if it can suppress his lack of med-elec knowledge.

so most of the time companies prefer candidate with domain specific knowledge or exp.

now, if we talk about healthcare sector...its a HUGE sector.actually its not a proper sector. its a conglomerate of 4-5 huge domains like hospital-IT-Pharma-Insurance etc. each of them are huge sectors by itself. learning about healthcare sector, thus my dear friend, isnt very easy. a domain specific approach is much better.

thats why we advise people with relevant background to consider this course as an option. though anyone can grab any job at any company with one's management skills, domain knowledge is always an advantage. a bio-science grad will be able to pick up basic pharma knowledge that he/she might require during his job much faster than a BE mechanical...atleast general believe is that, right? so relevant background helps, atleast to some extent during placement.

hope i have made an 'OK' atempt to clear some of your doubt.let me know if you still have any doubt or complain.

Hii

sorry, i cant predict anything about your chance. you have to keep your finger crossed till the list comes out. im helpless in this matter.

During admission process NO preference is given to any candidate becos of his/her edu-background. once you get a call you have as much chance as any other candidate to make the final list.

if you are hardworking person, why are you getting bogged down by a score. its MBA...not any lifetime opprtunity. its like a bus/train...you miss one, another comes after some time. it its the last bus/train, there are autos and taxis. orelse wait for a day n take the train/bus next day.

remember...success doesnt teach anything, failure does. if you start crying everytime you get somthing bellow your expectation you will never become a good manager, nomatter which institute you do your MBA from. getting upset wont give you anything.try to learn from it.

that much only i can tell you.

hope it helps.

Good Luck

Hi ! had been away on a workshop. well since the hot topic now is GD/PI i thought i should share my experience....for our batch, first we were asked to write a short essay ....my topic was about rise of women power, followed by which we were divided into groups and taken for GD/PI, as for the preparation aspect...some of my friends had taken coaching for the same in various management institutes, my preparation was limited to reading tips on the net, the topic for my group was " should some activities like valentines day, fashion shows be banned in the name of cultural preservation" ( it was actually based on an recent incident) in PI the questions were random.....the faculty interviewing me had my application form in front of them( this is to forewarn all those who took a bit of creative liberties while filling their forms, the faculty have an uncanny knack of finding out any bluffmasters). Keep yourself upto date on current events and any health sector related topics and most importantly be honest and confident.
i think that is the process in a gist. will keep posting more as and when possible.

Hi fellow SNAP 09 takers. Another reminder.

Action is being taken to get an explanation from Symbi for the drastic differences in our SNAP Scores.

Heres a brief.

Under Section 4 of the RTI act 2005, every public authority, which SIU is, is under an obligation of providing information to anyone who asks them questions about their records or their operations, if the appellant feels that there is something wrong in the doings of that organisation.

SIU being a public authority as formed by the Government of India (Established under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 vide notification No. F.9-12/2001-U.3) is under an obligation to provide any information required by a person who feels, that by acts of the authority, public interest or personal interest is harmed and is causing damage to the person.
Again, all this is not made up. This is genuine legal protocol and we have hired a Legal Advisor - Ajay Singla (Punjab and Harayana High Courts) for the same.

We will be filing an RTI request to the PIO of SIU seeking answers to the questions asked in SNAP 2008 conducted at a National Level on the 21st of Dec 2008.
If the reply is not satisfactory than we will apply to UGC for the same and if we still don’t get a satisfactory reply, we’l get our RTI sent to the HRD ministry, Govt Of India.

We will also be sending a copy of our RTI to the media so that more pressure is created for Symbi to release an answer key.
This has been done in the past. The IIM's never issued an official key but after a case filed by Mr. Gautam Puri, the courts instructed the IIM's to issue an official key and since then, the official keys are being released every year.

Join the mailing list Symbiosis Snap Scores Fiasco 2009 | Google Groups to get updated.

We need to thank Aditya Kaushal who has taken this initiative. 50 people have already replied but we need many more people to make an impact. Do mail ur details in the following format to aditya.koushal@gmail.com before 13/01/2009 1600 HRS.

Name -
Father's Name -
Address -
Contact no -
(This Information would solely be used for RTI purposes and for contacting the appellants of the RTI request)

Thanks.
Lets hope for the best.

For my batch around 300 candidates were called for the GDPI process out of whom around 70 were selected, a waitlist will also be released in case any one chooses to opt out. we are expecting some companies at the end of this month for placement, the details of which are still being finalised.
