Hi pmabdullah87 ,
Its against the rules of PG to post email IDs directly on thread. However you can PM that to some specific member. Please edit the above post...

@Seniors at NMIMS
Thanks to all for provioding all the useful information regarding NMIMS Focussed programs. I have gone through all the pages of the thread, but I couldn't find info regarding some of my queries. I'm putting them here and please pardon me in advance for the long list of questions.

1. What was the cutoff rank for MBA Pharma last year? If possible please post the cutoff marks of written test also. What was the cutoff marks in SKT last year (for MBA Pharma)?

2. What was the exam structure last year i.e. no of sections, no of questions in each section, marking scheme, negative marks if any, sectional cutoffs if any etc. (for both exams NMAT and SKT for MBA Pharma.)

3. My Friend is doing B. Pharma and will passout next year. Is the subject knowledge of B. Pharma enough for SKT exam? If not please provide some source for the same.

4. How much weightage is given to acads for final selection and/or GD/PI call? If one has around 50-55 % marks in 10th and 12th and 65% in B. Pharma. would it be a major problem?

5. what is the ratio of freshers and exp. in current batch in MBA Pharma? (If Possible in all Sectoral Programs).

6. One query for myself; what is the date upto which we have to calculate our exp. to fill in the NMAT Form (for MBA Core). I will have 15 months of exp by end of December (till exam date).

thanks in advance.
1. MBA pharma closed around 45 rank.. don rem the SKT cutoff

2. refer to my reply to vikas for exam pattern

3. for MBA pharma SKT B.Pharma knowledge is more than enough

4. your acads are judged in your interview, but your acads wont be a prob as NMAT gives much weightage to written exams ( abt 70%)

5. in all sectorals ,roughly freshers to work ex ratio is 30 : 70

6. you have to fill work ex upto 31st dec.. particulars will be mentioned in the prospectus

Sectoral specialisation means high domain knowledge..

MBA core and 6 MBA sectoral have same fee, same teachers, almost same subjects, both had 100% placements

NMIMS is a great college and perhaps only to place more than 400 students in a week with average salary of 9 lpa.

regarding avg placements for batch of 2008

MBA core-11 lpa
MBA capital markets-10 lpa
MBA global business- 9.5 lpa
MBA services management- 8.5 lpa
MBA actuarial science - 8.5 lpa
MBA retail management- 7.5 lpa
MBA pharma management- 5 lpa
MBA banking - first batch will pass out in 2009

all the courses are really good in content and relevance to industry...

if u r lookin for kinda generalised course then opt fr MBA global ,MBA services or MBA retail....

else if u wan a highly specialised course in finance then go fr MBA actuarials, MBA capital markets, MBA banking...

As far as industry acceptance is concerned, there are various B-Skools running such courses,

we already have courses in:

MBA IB running at SIIB,IIFT
MBA Services management running at FMS and
MBA Retail running at KJ somayya, etc

also it is highly advisable to have workex as it enhances ur placements and understanding of subjects, but good no of freshers were also taken in these courses to have a balanced batch...

in regard to work ex, we have ppl in all the courses from various background... rit from IT,Media,Hospitality,Analytics, Consulting,Manufacturing to Biotechnologists.....

Narsee monjee started to have separate exams from last year ie 2007.

before that there was a common exam for MBA core and MBA focussed programmes.

last year, NMAT sectoral (in feb) was same as on lines of NMAT core (in dec), as far as cut offs are concerned

MBA global business - closed at rank 67
MBA banking - closed at rank 102
MBA services manangement and retail - closed around rank 182 (not sure of exact numbers)

regarding the exams pattern:

1) NMAT (core programme) - exam conducted in dec,
---1 MBA course, 240 seats

2) NMAT (sectoral programmes) - exam conducted in jan,
---7 MBA courses, 210 seats ( 30 seats per focussed MBA course)

both the exams have same pattern n sections ie english, di & lr , quant...

freshers are eligible for both exams, but work ex is preferred.

MBA services management:
first year contains general management subjects..in second year choose btw Marketing, finance, operations, HR, IT for 1 major specialisation and Services management as other specialisation. Also u r taught one foreign language.

MBA retail management:
first year contains general management subjects though mainly retail subjects, second year it has Marketing, finance, operations, HR, IT.

MBA capital markets:

Hi,

No, NMIMS does not have a Focussed Program for Marketing and Communication. You can also apply for MBA in Global Business and Retail where a lot of Mktng Subjects are taught.

Or you apply for NMIMS Core program and then you can select Mktng Subjects in the second year to get domain knowledge in Mktng. A good amount of Mktng Communication will be covered in the Mktng Subjects of course not as much as that will be covered in an Mba in Marketing and Communication Management program.

You can go through the curriculums of the course -

NMIMS - Full Time MBA - Curriculum
NMIMS - Full Time MBA (Retail Management) - Curriculum
NMIMS - Full Time MBA (Global Business) - Curriculum

All the Best!!!

Fyip....
Actuarial Science deals with Insurance markets and Insurance Products.
Say for example, the kind of job you'd be most probably be doing is building different kinds of term/life products and peg insurance premiums to the same.
Using stochastic modeling tools and risk preferences, you'd come up with different schemes to say.

Now my question to NMites,
Guys, Am from Economics Background. Am already enlisted in ASI as a student and have been preparing for CT3 exam for november.

So, would this course provided by NMIMS fetch any extra value add to my profile or would I land up in the same position after clearing my, say, CT series exams?

This is just to enhance my knowledge about this course, as I am very keen to step into the world of actuaries as a career.
Would this course be recognized by the other Actuarial societies of the world, like in UK/Australia?

PS: Am working in Cognizant Technology Solutions, in Oracle Apps Implementation of Financial Suite. As you understand, this is not exactly in line with "relevant work experience". Would this kind of bar me from the course or I'd be considered?
Cutesuny,
I would really appreciate it if any of your actuarial specialization friends can answer my query regarding the ASI thingy.

Peace..
Yudhajeet

@yudhajeet
hi!
i am from actuarial 08-10 batch.just saw ur post so replying.

first thing is that MBA in actuarial science is not just about insurance.it is much much more then that.Insurance is one of the vertical where it is required(i agree its backbone of insurance industry.).other then this it is required in risk management, consultancy, analytics and on a broad basis wherever finance related work is done and that work is of very high importance.

this course will definitely add tremendous value to your profile even before you clear your entire CT series(it takes a lot of time to clear all papers).

doubt no. 3:
To become an actuary you have to clear ASI papers, that will be recognized all across the globe.after this course you will be a globally recognized manager.many of my friends(not me) are writing CTs in november.however the course material covers all the CT topics as our trimester subjects along with general management subjects.so along with pursuing this course you can write CTs.

well buddy at the end all i can say is that it is a great course.it is the future of industry.don't think much now.appear in the exam, clear it.mark my word.....u won't regret your decision.
