Re: NMIMS Focussed Programs Admission Queries Batch 2009-2011 -

Hi guys,
I have the following queries. I hope you clear my doubts.
1. Are NMAT and NMAT(Sectoral) different in terms of dates, paper pattern, etc.? If yes, it would be of great help if you could provide me with more details, especially about its mock papers ( both core and sectoral).
2. Is it true that a seperate 'Subject related TEST' is conducted after the NMAT-Sectoral? If yes, what type of questions were asked in that test? Can anyone cite some examples?
3. I am currently working in NSE/NCDEX Derivatives (FNO) Market ( Risk Management Department - Technical Backend) as a software devoloper. I would posses an exp. of 18 months by JAN 2009 and of 24 months by July 2009. Will the authorities concerned value my experience which is highly relevant for this MBA course? Do I stand an advantage because of my experience in NSE? How far can my EXP. help me in making it to the MBA in Capital Markets course (assuming I fare well in NMAT sectoral and the test that follows)?
I guess this is enough ... for the day!

Hello Pankaj,
1. Yes NMAT and NMAT(Sectoral renamed to Focussed Programs) are different set of exams. The pattern of the exams were on the similar lines last year however we cannot comment on the exam patterns for this year untill the notifications are out. Coaching institutes provide Mock Tests for NMAT please check with them.
2. If a candidate applies for Capital Markets or Pharma, he has to undergo a Subject Knowledge Test (SKT). For capital markets, fundamentals related to Capital Market shall be tested. Preparation for elementary NCFM certifications shall help you crack it.
3. Your performance on the GD/PI day matters the most in GD/PI stage. Given that you are currently working in Financial Domain and you intend to extend it further down line with MBA Capital Markets does make a lot of logic behind choosing the course. However, your subject knowledge shall be put into test during the interviews. If you perform well you are always welcome. Please note there was only Interview no GD last year for Capital Market selection process. The Cap Mark Batch does have good number of candidates from IT background who worked in BFSI verticals.
All the Best!!!

hi pankaj,
since pradeep has replied to most of ur questions.
i wud lik to add that MBA capital markets is a very good course if u r interested in asset managemnt, private equity, venture capital, investment banking n like.. it has tie up wit BSE too.. its avergae package is arnd 9-10 lpa.
also NCFM exam will help u a lot in cracking SKT
bt if u r interseted in Risk management n Analytics, go for MBA actuarial science, i has ASI papers too ( actuaries society of india).. also is ideal fr risk consulting...avg package arnd 8.5 lpa.
since most of engineers here are from IT background, it doesnt make much of differnce at end of the day.

Thanks Cutesuny and Pradeep for your valuable inputs for novices like us.
Here goes my Query :
I would have cleared my TYBCOM with arnd 55% next year and i dont have any workex in any reputed firm, rather durring my FYBCOM i joined Iron And Steel Casting factory as a trainee with a firm wid a fairly decent turnover,i have decent knowledge abt the same industry after 14 months of experience and nw i am pretty much inclined to get admission into NM for my MBA from next year session.I will do the needful of appearing in the NMAT this year but besides that i came across "Management Quota" in the website,i dont have complete info abt it.
I want to knw abt the Management Quota, how it works,i heard the fees is high in that but if u clear the test(NMAT) and are selected for GDPI then u have a good chance in the Mana.Q,its done on First Come first serve basis(it does sound weird but tats wat i came to knw).
Secondly where wil i get the old NMAT papers of previous years,so that i prepare for it.
Thirdly the best way to abt taking admison into NM,bcoz i am focused of going there, but nt geting any direction excpt preparing for it,is there anything else wich can help me for wich i can do nehting from nw.

Hey Carzysid4u,
Welcome to PG!!!!
On the Contrary of your knowledge, Management Quota in NMIMS is merit based. Only candidates who have cleared written exams and have underwent the GD/PI process are eligible for Management Quota.
Once the final results of NMIMS are declared i.e. results after GD/PI and the candidate has not been offered admission, he/she can apply for Management Quota. The seats are then alloted in the order of your final rank. Yes, the Management Quota seats cost twice what the normal seats cost.
NMIMS does not allow students to take the exam paper with them hence most of the papers afloat in internet are memory based. You can contact coaching classes like TIME, IMS for Mock NMATS.
Experience prior to the date of completion of Graduation is dicounted by most of the MBA colleges.
All the Best!!

adding to wat pradeep pointed, workex before completion of graduation is not counted...
rest NMAT sectoral/focussed is on same lines as NMAT core,
u can refer IMS publication book called 'EXAM EXEMPLER' of last 5 years NMAT papers, costs around 150 bucks, is available at all IMS branches...
If u apply for MBA capital markets then u ll also have a SKT (subject knowledge test) apart from the NMAT sectoral exam, preparation fr which can done thru NCFM nts...

suny

Hi all,
Thanks pradeep and cutesuny for your valuable inputs. I would like to add in that i have heard about 'Equity Research' as an impressive field to enter. Which among Capital Markets and Acturial Science would best suite my interests?
Also, as NCFM would suffice the SKT requirement for Cap Mkts, how should i prepare for the SKT for Acturial Sciences?
FInally, i have no clue about the cut-offs for these two courses. If you can cite last year figures, it'd be great.
Thanks in Advance!!

HI Pankaj,
Only Capital Mkt and Pharmaceuitcal Mgmt have SKT. Last year the cutoff in SKT for Capital Mkt was 7 (out of 40). Majority of the people cleared the SKT cutoffs. Capital Market shall be the most suited for a "Equity Research" career. You shall find equity research firms like IREVNA visiting our campus.
I do not know the final cutoff marks for the courses but the last rank admitted to the courses are cited in the previous posts in this thread.
All the Best!!!
