Can anyone provide me the details about the exam conducted in the month of December and feb. I had a notion NMAT is conducted once only in December. Can anyone throw some light on this....

I am Srikanth Ganti currently working for GE GBS a reporting process on HR OPS. have a decent 15 months work ex with this process. I am Six Sigma Green Belt trained and tested. Will be moving to HSBC temporarily and will prepare for CAT and other entrances. I Will have 2yrs full time work ex at the end of Apr-09

So, could you guys please suggest me what kind of specialisation suits me well, how would be the Banking course and how will my profile be considered for the banking program

Would appreciate your help always.

hi pooja,
narsee monjee started to have separate exams from last year ie 2007.

before that there was a common exam for MBA core and MBA focussed programmes.

regarding the exams pattern:

1) NMAT (core programme) - exam conducted in dec,
---1 MBA course, 240 seats

2) NMAT (sectoral programmes) - exam conducted in jan,
---7 MBA courses, 210 seats ( 30 seats per focussed MBA course)

both the exams have same pattern n sections ie english, di & lr , quant...

freshers are eligible for both exams, but work ex is preferred.

also we do have ppl come from various backgrounds to focussed programs..

given u r 6 sigma certified, u cud find a suitable career in Quality assurance n mgmt in various mnc banks or cud go fr QA analyst job in finance vertical in an IT company...though there are number of options, bt i cud think of this only... will talk to a MBA banking guy n get back to u...

and your work ex wud really help in studies n placements...

Thanks for the information. As am planning to appear for NMAT, can you provide me the link where I can find the detail. On the site am not able to find the details. If no particular information is provided can you please answer few of my queries
1) Can I appear for both the exams (i.e in dec and jan)
2) Can elaborate a bit on the details of two like what is the difference in core mba and 7 sector mba
3) Do they have HR course and how is it?

HI Pooja,

Yes you can appear for both the exams. You need to separately apply for both of them. The notifications for both of them will be soon out.

MBA CORE is a generalised program in which the students are allowed to select electives in the second year. If one is interested in HR one can select HR related subjects. List of electives are given in the link -

NMIMS - Full Time MBA - Curriculum

However, the Focussed programs are built to cater industry needs and students are taught industry specific subjects. One in Capital Market would be equiped with subject knowledge relevant to Cap Market.

hi pooja,

as pradeep rightly said.. u can appear for both exams... notifications wil be out soon.. also since NMAT has bifurcated into 2 exams, many people dont know much about it, so inform as many as u can...

regarding specialisation:

MBA core:
first year contains general management subjects..in second year choose btw Marketing,finance,operations, HR, IT for 1 major n 1 minor specialisation.

MBA services management:
first year contains general management subjects..in second year choose btw Marketing,finance,operations, HR, IT for 1 major specialisation and Services management as other specialisation.Also u r taught one foreign language.

MBA retail management:
first year contains general management subjects though mainly retail subjects, second year it has Marketing,finance,operations, HR, IT.

MBA capital markets:
hard core finance, investment banking, venture capital, etc.. certifiactions with BSE.

MBA global business :
first year contains general management subjects,second year concetrates on International business and related finance, marketing,operations subjects.Also u r taught two foreign languages.

MBA banking:
first year contains general management subjects, second year has subjects on banking marketing, operations, finance, operations.

MBA actuarial science:
based on actuary science n management, includes general management subjects and ASI papers n international certifications too.

2. for course content kindly refer the website

3. for MBA batch 2008-2010 (both core and 7 sectorals) , the fee was 210000 per annum excluding hostel... no idea about 2009 batch...

4. workex is preferred not mandatory, freshers eligible.

5. don rem the last rank, will confirm and inform u.
