Re: SCIT Aspirants for 2009-2011 batch - 03-11-2008, 03:31 AM

Hello,

I am currently working in symantec, for around 8 months as a tech support analyst. I am a part of Compliance and Security team handling security products and workin on windows as well as Unix. I also have prior experience of 16 months on system administration field. So all in all.. I got 2 yrs + experience in IT industry, especially the system admin field.
I am a BE (Electrical & Electronics) and have decent academic recored..

I waana know which course from SCIT would help my profile shape up better in IT management field?? the IT business management, Information systems & Security or the Networking and IT infrastructure.

Also, what kind of job positions would I be looking at if I decide to do MBA from SCIT??
What are profiles of the jobs?

Some defeats are more triumphant than victories...

Hi everyone!
i m 3rd year student of bsc with IT,
and want to do MBA in IT,
but i have read in a magazine that in SCIT, there is 70% intake is only
for engineers.
If it is true then only 24 seats are left for simple graduates (as the intake is 180).
guys plz help in this regard .........

Re: SCIT Aspirants for 2009-2011 batch - 13-11-2008, 06:56 PM

will answer this since many of the SCIT guys are busy in their exams

@ vyom
do well in your snap.....check last years cutoff SCIT website
apart from that u would get anaddition 10 points for 60% academics in 10th 12th n engg + 5 points for being an engineer + 3 points for being from IT/Comp Sci engg
so here are your 18 points
work hard and get aroun 70 for a call frim itbm or systems

@vaibhav
it is not true that SCIT is only for engineers
since they already have done engineering, some extra goodies in terms of points are given them for struggling and finally passing out as an engineer...points mentioned above

these points are added to the snap score and then the call list is generated.....inspite of u not being from engg background, if you manage to get a very good score.....u cant be denied a call....and later on an admission

so do well in ur snap

@ rupesh

since u are already giving cat, go ahead and fill snap forms.....score well and keep some justification ready wen a call comes thru for explaining ur gap(pm me for some gr8 ideas )

@ rudraksh

ITBM, ISS and NITI are 3 different courses altogether....go thru the programmed details on their site....all of them lead to IT Management with their own specialisation....but if u want a specialised course u may either chose ISS or NITI considerin ur work ex
afaik ITBM would be the most generic of al courses offered by SCIT and the most sought after ....quite a good number of laterals opt for the same

u would be mostly falling into the laterals category wen u pass out of scit....so wen u get a lateral placement....u may get a profile of ass. consultant or sr. busines analyst....i am not sure whether u are allowed to haggle for better profiles for lateral placements...someone from SCIT can clear that....

all the best

Hi, Exams over so I guess all of us will be back in action so shoot all your questions.

So to answer your question... Let me tell you categorically that please do not be under the assumption that getting into a managers post you will not require programming skills. If you are in IT you need to know programming. Now the difference is that you will not be asked to code. But as a Project Leader or Business Analyst you need to know programing else how will you explain the project architecture to the client. The course does not have a advanced programming but does have modules for basic level programing and fundamentals.
To keep things in perspective we have students from BCom also. So the course is structured so that those guys can also pick up. For ppl from Comp Sc it will be a cake walk. All this is addition to the management subjects that are there. You can check the course curriculum for the subjects in sem on the website.
Job prospects in the IT domain are vast and really depends on where your interest lies.
Cheers
