I have some queries esp for seniors at doms@IITM

1. What's the max work ex. for previous batches. From the site, the av work ex appears to be 2-3 years. Does it make sense for someone with 5+ exp with a CTC of 8L to look at MBA@IITM in terms of pay packet and job profile enhancement.

2. How would MBA@IITM would stand vis-a-vis PGPX of IIM/ISB for experianced guys in terms of pay package, job profile. This query because due to the tech background of IITs, the IT sector representation in placement is gonna be more or less same at IIMs/ISBs/IITs. But the crutial point is the pay packet and job profile being offered for experianced ones across these campuses.

3. How strong is the Lateral Palcement scenario at IITM in terms of pay packages, designation etc. Is there separate laterals conducted prior to final placments for experianced ones as done in IIMs.

5. How far the Consulting Specialisation offered is accepted in Industry?

4. How does the IITM research park due to open in 2008 gonna benefit students esp. MBA grads interms of internships, palcement etc. I think this is the first such case in india where Industries has set up full fledged centers inside an Academic Campus.

1 & 2. In our batch of 2007-09 the max work ex is about 22 yrs of that of a Army Colonel. We have another lady with 10 yrs of work ex in Cognizant. Our current avg salary is around 8.8 LPA which is sure to rise over the yrs. In keeping with the increase in our avg salary you must ask what is that you really want from an MBA. If your speaking in terms of salary, then we right now don't match the IIMs and ISB. It's only in 2001 that we started the MBA journey. However, I can vouch without any doubt that our faculty and our course content is the best you can get in India. Besides this, we have had various profiles being offered here, from the usual Business Analyst, and Financial Analyst positions to that of a Strategy Consultant. In addition to there are other benefits that an MBA from an IIT gives, for instance access to the world class infrastructure at an IIT as well as interaction with its flagship B.Tech. course students.
3. Currently there is no separate lateral placement process in place. However, it is proposed to be a part of the process.
4. We have had consulting profiles been offered by companies such aas Avalon Consulting, IBM and Infosys.
5. Participation in the IIT Madras Research Park will be a prime opportunity for not only MBA graduates but all students at IIT to be a part of live ongoing industry sponsored projects at the Research Park and thus not only enhance their placement prospects but learn something new while being a part of a new product/service or domain development activity.

It was a great time being a part of this thread, trying to answer queries about our dept, the Dept of Mgmt Studies, IIT Madras.

Yes, its been great to welcome the incoming batch at DoMS, IIT Madras.
Since they have already been in IIT M for more then 10 days now, we can look forward to them to take the baton in there hands for the batch of 2009-11.
