Thanks for that comprehensive list, rmbt. Would be obliged if you clarified a few doubts:
1. From what I gather, we have to get/buy the bed, bedsheets, pillows and blankets (I'm assuming that "mattress" is also included in the list?) ourselves. Getting bedsheets etc. is fine, but we have to buy a bed? Does this mean that we will get just a bare hostel room with nothing in it when we reach there? (I hope we won't have to buy our own tubelights and bulbs too )
2. Are all rooms single-occupancy (one person per room)?
3. Could you shed a little light on laundry facilities?
4. You've asked to bring a suit if we already have one, hence it's not necessary to get one made before we come there, right? Just asking this again for confirmation, because I've heard that after the session starts, the class decides on the colour etc. of the suits and gets them made in bulk (so that they are consistent across the entire batch).
5. Looking at the post again, I get the feeling that we will have to incur quite a few initial expenses after coming to campus. Can you give a ballpark figure as to how much they could be?
Thanks again!

1. By bed I meant you have to buy foam/mattress. DOnt worry, IIT M isnt that bad that you need to buy bulbs/tube lights however, you are required to buy table lamps or mugs/buckets.
2. Yes, room are single seaters.
3. There are washing machines in hostels. Laundry service is decent but the chap comes at a fixed time and more often than not you end up missing him and hence, decide once you reach to IIT
4. The batch decides a color and then they make a common color suit for everyone but this gets done by oct-nov where as your summers internship selection process gets underway in 1st week of oct. Hence, to be on safer side its better to have one for the interview.
5. When ever you go to a new place you do have some teething troubles and hence, the initial investments. So carry around money depending on upon what things you need to buy from the list which i posted earlier.
Roughly around 2k should be suffice.

Hi all,
For all those who have applied for an education loan and need the receipt of the first instalment...I had called up DoMS for the same and the person at the other end had asked me to send a hand-written application requesting the receipt at the following address :
Deputy Registrar(Academic),
Administrative Block,4th Floor,
IIT Madras,
Sardar Patel Road
Chennai - 600036
Also it's advisable to mail them at dracad@iitm.ac.in in addition to the hand-written letter.Anyone wanting to have a word with them may conatct at 044-22578035
P.S. DoMS is preparing a file for every student and it contains the receipt which otherwise will be given to us at the time of admission. So,those who need it urgently may follow the procedure mentioned above.

For the benefit of everyone, i m posting this again:
I am posting few of the reasons why you should look forward to DoMS as your final detination for MBA(final choice is upto u):
1. The unique quarter system gives you time to focus on each and every subject. In sem format, u have 11-12 subjects which become to cumbersome to handle at the end of the sem. Also, having 6 subjects at a time to you to focus on those 6 and get a good in depth knowledge of them.
U can customise your MBA degree i.e. u can choose the subjects you want in the final year.
2. As said by LSG sir, we have one of the biggest research programme in India within our dept, this helps student to get better knowledge about the suject as PHD students also are a part of some of the classes and hence contribute to the class. Students can freely interact with them. U can do small projects with them and there is no need to run here and there to llok for mini projects.
3. You get to learn so much as there eminent personalities visiting either DoMS or IIT and hence a guest lecture is arranged for all the students of IIT.
4.U can participate in the feast of other departments, join in various clubs (acting, dancing etc) and sports. Mind you, SAARANG is the biggest feast of the country.
5. Already a MOU signed with CAT,ISB. There are a fewmore in pipeline.
6.We have few of the students from Germany doing interns at our dept. Few from our dept will go to Germany soon(cant comment on the exact time but the process is underway) to Germany.
7. You get a brand name of being an IIT ian and will be a part of prestigious IIT alumni.
8. Excellent Infrastructure(which most of u saw at DoMS and at hostel).
9. Fees is just 1.8 laks(as of now) for 2 years including hostel. This will be a deciding factor if u have another college convert which is at par with IIT M.
10.Faculty and seniors from differnt background and great fun to be with.
