here is what you will use it for...

1. Powerpoint presentations
2. Reports (in Word)
3. MS Excel
4. Statistical tools like SPSS, SAS
5. Internet surfing

6. Movies
7. Songs
9. Games (counterstrike, age of empires...)

You do not require extremely high processing speed or other thingamajigs. However due to constant net and LAN access, i would recommend that you invest in a subscription for an antivirus package.

Rather than have oodles of inbuilt harddrive memory, invest in an external drive... (you get a 500 gb external drive - usb - for about 4,750 INR)

Office 2007 is good but not backward compatible... it has fantastic graphical facilities though... so have both office 2k7 and 2k3 ....

I have an HP laptop and not DELL. Though one of my friends has a DELL one, i find the features of his configuration as mentioned below -

Inspiron 1520 (Model Name)
Intel core 2 duo 2.0GHz
Microsoft Windows Vista Home
160GB HDD @ 5400 RPM
600 FSB and 1MB cache
2GB RAM
14.1" TFT Display
Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/DVD Writer
Color Black(outside)/Silver(inside)
Intel pro Accelerator X3100 (for graphics)

It costed him ~42K including taxes.. He purchased it around a month back..
But again, he had a friend in DELL who could get ~15% discount on MRP so it actually costed him around ~35-36K.

Here is my laptop configuration (HP) -

AMD Turion 64X2 2.0GHz
FSB 1600 and Cache 2MB
Microsoft Windows Vista Home
2GB RAM
15.4" TFT Display
250GB HDD @ 5400 RPM
Wi-Fi/DVD Writer (No Bluetooth though)
Color Black(outside)/Chrome Silver(inside)
Nvidia GeForce Graphics card (shared) 512MB

I got it from US, and got it for ~37K around 4 months back. The same model in India is available in India at that time for around ~46-47K and for around ~42-43K nowadays.

Regarding Toshiba - i don't have any idea about what they are offering in India, but in US, when i searched they used to offer AMD and Intel both. Must be the same in India as well..

DELL Vostro is the one you're probably looking at (in the range of ~35K)

Friends Its not a bad idea to call Doms up and ask if they have received the acceptance letter and confirm if everything is all right.

I just did that and everythings seems to be fine.

They told me to come on 23th July.

Hope everyone is done with the acceptance letter.

Hey guys...

Sorry to chip in late..but one more thing i would like to add as fas as Dell is concerned...since it doesnt have any service centers in Chennai, any problems (read hardware) encountered at a later stage can be a prob.

since I have been in chennai for the past 2 yrs, I know of people who have faced this problem..like a small ex. : one of my friend's bluetooth was not working and he couldn get a new one as thr r no Exclusive Dell service centers..

But again, DELL users usually have told me that its robustness is a big factor..very meagre chances of any hardware problems....Hope this info helps u guys......

I just called up my courier service provider's customer care to check whether the application/confirmation has reached its destination or not. The answer was that it will reach by tomorrow before 2 PM.

I don't know why its happening with me.. i sent it on 14th, it should have had reached by now..

DoMS or ACAD people are not picking the phone..

I am highly worried as a result..

Can anyone check with them and come back to inform me of whether they will accept my application/confirmation or not in case it reaches tomorrow???

Please Please Please.. Do it for me..!!!

Hi,

My stroy :

I was on vacation from 7th to 15th in Northen India.

On 13th May my friend told me that letter has come and last date to pay fees is on 16th may.

I was not able to believe that as I was not sure whether my letter has arrived or not?

So, I came to home on 14th by flight from Delhi with my family(No Other Option avaliable).

Couriered everythin on 14th and sent e-mail also.Confirmed that my documents have reached there by calling them.

So, Finally I can breathe.

Still one more query?
I was reading placement Report on site. Can u tell more about foreign offers?

I mean what kind of profile? And which companies came?

Do confirm by mail (add DD no also)that u have sent the acceptance thorugh courier and it will be delivered to them on Sat.
