I had a talk with IIT M admission office...Do discuss some doubts...I am putting them In Q and A manner. It might help some of us

Q. To whom the draft should refer
'The Registrar, IITM' or 'registrar, IITM' As in the document in 3 places there is difference.
A. Both are fine.

Q. Is a draft from ICICI.fine.
A. Its fine.

One of my friends who has been selected for IITM said if the date on the draft is before 16th they can relax the deadline for 2-3 days..
He discussed it with IITM officials

P.S.:
( I think if the bank have a branch in Chennai the draft will be fine. Personal opininon)

Hope this information helps....

One Query,

I was hoping Hostel rooms will be provided on single basis as Sathya Bhai told us previously. However, as per the offer letter, we will alloted room on shared basis.

Seniors, is there any provision so that we can opt for single occupancy rooms
or Is it a temporary provision and that later on will be provided rooms on individual basis.

Thanks

Is it true Sathya??

or was it the same way in your times (i mean, when the letter was sent to you for your admission, what did it said)??

Hey ppl. Sorry we haven't been around to answer your queries. All of us are either interning in different places or enjoying holidays before we intern or in case of our seniors, have left IIT.

Uptill now all of the MBA guys at least have all been provided single occupancy rooms. True for us and our seniors. No idea if this is a temporary or permanent thing. However, as far as I know all PG and Ph.D. students get single occupancy rooms. And I don't quite remember the letter telling whether we will get a single or double occupancy room. So the decision really depends on the dept and the institute administration as well as availability of rooms. Hope you do get the single occupancy rooms.

And many many posts ago people were asking for the latest placement report. We had already provided The Hindu and ET links to the reports in media. It's up on our website now, the updated report as many of our seniors got opportunities with companies such as Barclays London and Bank of America. Here's the link: DoMS IIT Madras.

The letter being sent across to the new batches are common (irrespective of whether it's a UG or a PG student...) hence they mention the shared room thing... (which is mandatory for UGs)...

Unless there is a shortage of rooms (which is not the case), all PGs are SUPPOSED to get single rooms... hence... chillax....you guys should be getting single rooms (in the new hostels, i guess)

Puys,

the letter mentions 23rd as the reporting date and the 1st as start of course I guess...

let me make it clear that your induction programme will begin on 23rd and last for about 3 days... which is mandatory to attend... your courses will commence IMMEDIATELY after that....

so be prepared to start your life @ DoMS IIT M right from the 23rd... there is NO BREAK in between...

the letter may seem misleading that you have time to goof off in between... you don't !

Re: [2008-10]DoMS, IIT M Results - 14-05-2008, 03:14 PM

After going through last yr's thread of results,We were thinking on similar lines abt the admission registration & orientation programme. But alongwith the admission offer letter, they have also enclosed a complete-day schedule of orientation programme on 31st July only after admission registration on 23rd.Nothing is mentioned abt the period in between 23rd & 31st.May be as said by Sathya, the letters despatched by Registrar office is common for all the UG/PG courses n not course/department specific ( Hence things like shared accommodation in hostel / one-day orientation programme, etc. mentioned in letter).
