@Seniors

Do you people see improvement in placements in the coming years and why? Improvement in terms of Profile , Package offered and companies.

What is the role of students in placements? Do they handle everything ?

What is the one best thing about Doms:neutral:

I know lots of question but cnt help it

TIA

Placements: The average salary has been increasing year-on-year, every year.. so yes the packages are definitely on the rise... in terms of companies and profiles, more and more students are getting what they want.. so it is definitely on the positive side

At the beginning of your life@DoMS, a group of 7-8 students will be selected (through a process of a presentation and an interview) for the placement team. 3 students will serve as core coordinators. During the first year, the coordinators will assist the senior placement team in contacting companies (old and new) and with other logistics. The teams generally go to Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi during August to visit various companies.

During October, the process for the summers start which is handled largely by seniors with the juniors in coordination. In December for the final career placements, a larger responsibility falls on the shoulders of the junior team.

Other than guiding students, the faculty takes a back seat. All decision of which companies to call, when to slot them etc. is taken solely by the students. The placement team generally takes the class' opinion on such matter but the final decision lies with them.

They serve as the go-between the industry and the department. The students who wish to be a part of the placement team need to be extremely motivated, should be able to balance their acads and extra-curriculars with the heavy responsibility of the placements and should be able to shoulder the responsibility of the careers of the class.

It is indeed a very demanding position with no returns but for the satisfaction that it gives of having done a good job and the prestige that it carries.

Best thing about DoMS - The amount of freedom that the students get to explore whatever they want to do ... and the support that they get from the faculty and staff alike...

Also, based on what we hear from other instis, unlike the intense rivalry that exists between students and the cutthroat competition, the batches till date have a special bond as a class and the amount of camaraderie and friendship that develops here is unparalleled

for example: we have had an entire musical band 'mystik musings' emerge in our batch - with quite a few of them mastering musical instruments during the two years that we spent here...

Well, to start with, me and Sathya are or rather were in the Placement team for the 2008 batch. Yes, our placements have always improved every year esp in the last 2 years.

Better profiles, companies and CTC. Moving away from traditional IT placements towards the company/ profile students want.

Best thing is about the DoMS is foreign placements, which was the first among IITs. Dont worry about placements. There is some pleasant surprise en stored for you all once you join IIT M.

We have an exchange program with the Mannheim University of Germany. We've already had students from there spend some time with us. (Ms. Britta Muller was present during the second day of GT-PI at IIT-B)

We've not started sending students there yet. Your batch might see the first contingent go across.

Hi All..

Im in the waitinglist again, as before...

I know of a friend who was in the waitinglist before... but is selected now.. Seniors.. any idea how that is possible?

I read in some previous posts, about people who were selected in general, have OBC indicated in list now... i dont understand that concern?

I thought any OBC(non creamy) who got in General previously should be moved to OBC quota now... else the OBC's will be more than 27% and General Category students will be affected :(:(
