It's a class decision... Uniformity generally looks good during placement season... the decision is left to the class.. the department is not involved...
and yes, the amount (fee + hostel) should come to 2.5 (if things havent changed)

Hi Seniors,
Can someone tell us the deadline for paying the fees. I will be out of town very soon n haven't received my confirmation letter yet. If the deadline is known, I can coordinate accordingly. No deadline details have been put up on the website either. Kindly let me know the date by which we might have to confirm our seat by paying the requisite amount.
Thanks in advance.

Generally a candidate is given two weeks deadline to accept the offer.
You will be receiving letter from IIT Main office and not DoMS. i think it should be around may 15th.

All of us have Major or a minor i.e you have at least 2 specialist ions and if you really want to be safe then few people take up 1 subject from each of the specialisation and then it becomes more of a general MBA.

to add on to what RMBT has to say, the department gives you the freedom of choosing any permutation / combination of subjects that you wish to. The final degree does not mention any specialisation. It just call you an MBA. The subject choice is personal and depends upon what you want to opt for in your career. The subjects that you pick will be useful to match the company's requirement.
For example, I have chosen a majority of marketing subjects and some HR courses. However, I've also taken a course each in IT, Finance and Consulting (Subjects that I felt would be useful to me in general)...
