Hey Seniors,

I got selected in the main list while the result was announced the first time . When the list was out this time , i was shocked to see that i have been selected through OBC quota .This is not the case only with me . All my friends who got selected in the first list have been put in the OBC quota list . I DONT understand the funda that has been applied here . As per the MOI directive if the OBC students are deserving enough to get selected through merit list then they should be given a seat through the general quota itself . Now i really doubt whether any new OBC students , who were not in the list for the first time , got a seat this time. Now if the selected OBC candidate doesent fulfill the creamy layer criteria then what will be his situation . Will he be given an admission based upon the merit list or is he not eligible to get a seat in IIT-M itself

To all puys,

Please let me know how many of your cases are like this and let me also know if some of you have got selected in the new list after the implementation of the quota

I've had a chat with the HoD and he says that there has been no case where a person who was originally on the general list could've been selected through others lists. However, having said that, I would ask you to post your JMET number so that we can look into the matter.

In case a candidate is deemed to have been selected through the OBC quota, then he / she will mandatorily have to product the required certificates failing which the candidate cannot be taken into the program on the basis of non-fulfillment of required criteria.

As Satya already mentioned, the students who have been offered admissions under the OBC category have to fulfill a few requirements. Please visit the website DoMS: IIT Madras for instructions. The form and the definition for Creamy Layer have been uploaded there.

I had been selected in the first list and my category was GN(OBC). But according to the latest revised list I have been selected under the OBC category. I belong to the creamy layer. I would like to know whether the admission committee will consider me as a general candidate or OBC candidate? Will I be denied admission because I belong to the creamy layer? It is confusing...

Kindly clarify. My JMET number is 751281.

My question is I was selected in the general list in the first list before the supreme court judgement. As per GoI order I can be selected under the general category as well which I had qualified as per the first list. Why did IIT Madras admitted me under the OBC category in the latest result? Does it mean that I am denied admission under the General category? It will be unfair if it so and will amount to violation of GoI guidelines.
