can u tell whether a seperate waitlist was issused or waitlisted people were shown in the list like in iitk. kindly tell wether it was like iitk , iitkgp (not issued yet) or iitr (merit list) or uother. some result show that "sorry u r not selected." nothing abt waitlist... kindly help asap

First of all please note that the results declared last week have been withdrawn. A new list will be put up soon.
Now to answer your question, the results of the people who have been waitlisted shows that they are on the waitlist. If anyone's result displays that "sorry u r not selected" than i m sorry but that means you are not on the waitlist.

I am interested in joining IIT M and want to be a part of the IIT Family.
I have a few queries which I will like to put forward in this forum:

1) How is the finance division of IIT Madras(companies, summers, faculty, alumnis). Pls elaborate on faculty part, as I am highly inclined towards finance part.

2) How many of the your batchmates are pursuing CFA Level 1 or have completed the same. Is it feasible to pursue both(MBA Fin + CFA) at IIT M.

3) Can we take subjects from other departments. From departments I mean subjects of my interest from M.tech or other courses in Higher level Applied mathematics or Statistics. Will IIT M be providing me credits for the same.
I will be intersted in taking quant subjects from other departments covering Applied Mathematics and Statistics.

4) Is it necessary to have laptops in IITs. How your group managed to have laptops, I mean did u people ordered in bulk?

Pls find time to answer my queries as these are highly important for my career.

1) Finance division is as good as you can get at any elite B-school. We have very learned faculty for all disciplines (DoMS IIT Madras), the ones for finance being DoMS IIT Madras, DoMS IIT Madras, DoMS IIT Madras, and DoMS IIT Madras. For summers and placements this yr we have had companies such as Barclays Bank London, Bank of America, Lehman Bros, Fidelity, Citibank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Irevna, Aranca, NCDEX and IBM (Project Fin).

2) One of our batch mates got enrolled and has cleared 2 levels of CFA, all while pursuing MBA here. It is very much possible, though it does become a little difficult, with other subjects to pursue. But if you plan your day well it is very much possible.

3) Absolutely. And in fact this is what sets the IITs apart from other B-schools. Its a university out here and you are free to look up courses being run during a quarter (2 quarters approx = 1 sem) by diff depts and enroll for them as an audit subject. For more on that, go to DoMS IIT Madras.

4) Theoretically speaking you don't need a laptop, as we have a 24 hr comp lab in the dept. But we buy lappies for the convenience of working on reports, assignments, presentations, etc. in our hostels, and of course accessing the resourceful IIT LAN

The dept has a policy of not involving itself in laptop bulk deals. So many of us either bought lappies ourselves while others came here and negotiated with Acer for lappies worth 40k. So this decision totally depends on you.

Results will be updated once the govt gives the IITs clarity on the issue of the recent judgment.

This summers we had companies such as Citibank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Avalon Consulting, NCDEX, ICRA Consulting (IMACS), Aranca, IBM, CTS, Wipro, Satyam, Saint Gobain, Dun & Bradstreet, Technopak, Dabur, US Technologies, Hovs Lason, HP Analytics, Jones Lang LaSalle Meghraj and Ma Foi. The max was 30k, the min being 4k, while the median was around 15k.
