Most of the points have been very well laid by Rahul, but I would like to add-on.

I have worked in Pune for 3 years and visited Delhi several number of times. If you keep in mind that Roorkee is a few hours drive to NCR region, and is extremely well connected to it, I would n't be afraid to put this statement that:
"But there is no exposure in a place like Pune as compared to NCR"

At the end of the day, it's your choice.

well,as this is a matter of your career i suggest you to listen to all and in the end apply ur own thought process to arrive at a conclusion and dont get fascinated by big names and all.
And remember one daily life Fallacy ''If A is good in his one major field, then u think that he is good in all other fields''.
which is not so.Hope you understand.
And again as ur career is at stake on this particular decision i suggest u to take advise of neutral people(who do not belong to any of the concerned colleges) and to the people studying in both the concerned colleges,so that u can consider pros and cons of each college.
Also about the issue on the cities no one can deny the fact that pune is definately a notch above roorkee.Infact Pune is one of the major IT hubs of india which lifts the general quality of people surrounding you which do have an impact on ur personality. And if one says roorkee is near ncr then pune is near Mumbai, the financial capital of India.
LAST,i have heard that SIMBY colleges have same campus so you can have the privilege of interacting with the Management gems of SIBM and SCHMRD,and they can have a major effect on the way you apply ur thinking. Also, there is lot of intercollege college activities in simby.
Take a well informed decision.
Best of luck for rest of your carrer.

Thumbs up Re: DoMS, IIT Roorkee, Final Results Batch 2008-2010 - 28-06-2008, 12:22 PM

hey buddy @Neuron<br>

i can understand ur anxiety.Dont get influenced by anybody (even by me for that matter). There is very common but valid proverb That 'listen to all
but do what u believe'.Everybody in his or her perspective is right.
I will give u a very disinterested advice, which i am damn sure will help u.
Just list down all the parameters (placement ,course of ur choice ,brand name ,and all other which u think are indispensable).
Give points to each college (as per the info available on site, reports etc)

-------------------------------------college A -------college B
Parameter

placement (x marks *) -------------a marks----------b marks

Course of ur choice (y marks*) -----c marks--------- d marks

*(allocate these marks as per ur preference(i.e for me course may be more imp ,but for u avg package may be more imp))

just sum up these points and go for the one which sums up more.

I know comparing college is not in the ethos of the forum ,but keeping in mind i have not used the name of any college.

This is the only way u can get out of this labyrinth .
Hope this will give u a modicum of help.

Seniors,
I have the following queries :
1.Do the work ex candidates need to submit the Migration/Transfer Certificate from the previous institute ?
2.There are 4 management clubs. Can you throw some light an their activities.
3. Has any body from IITR cleared in the previous batch CFA/FRM ? Is it possible to do the same along with the normal course work ? Is there any specific certification which caters to the Marketing side ?Finally how useful are these certifications in times of placements ?
4. Placement Report ( waiting from a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time now......... )

very few of us had double seater rooms in 1st year.....around 10-11 out of 45 male hostelites....so going by last year's trend, 7/9 probability of u getting a single room and 2/9 of a double seater.

a word of caution though....single seater rooms are small to the point of causing claustrophobic attacks (i know very few will agree to this).. and besides, double seaters are more fun.....some people(me included) have chosen to stay in double seater ones even in the 2nd year

1. yes, everyone has to submit the migration/transfer certificate...u still have a month till college starts. try to arrange for the same by then. even if u can't, it's not a big problem. u'll have to submit the certi to get the degree. so u can manage without it till then.

2. the mgmt clubs are for publishng magazines on a fortnightly/ monthly basis in their domains. they also organise events/seminars on their own as well as help the dept in organising them. u'd have heard of the symposium that is being organised in aug-sep. all the four clubs have decided on the topics/speakers/comapnies for the same.

3. yes u could prepare for certification exams if its a priority to u. as a matter of fact, yours truly is mulling over appearing for cfa this dec. abt others, i dont know anyone who has appeared for these 2 specific certifications. though plenty who have appeared for others. am not aware of any certification in marketing.

4.we too are waiting
