Actually, as the news is still fresh...lotsa ppl hv as well as project their own opinions and inferences...let the dust settle down in a few days...and the things will get clearer...the reason i had posted tht piece of article is to safeguard u ppl frm takin nethin for granted..do not actually make conclusions based on some particular news article..rediff itself has posted contradictory articles..so u never knw...last year...durin our admission times...lotsa drama had happened...so the best policy is to wait n watch....lets c wht stand do the iits take on this...!

Hi ,

I have the following queries .Please clarify(Will join IIT R irrespective of the answers... but still wanted to know)

1.Can we take up any audit courses?Any foreign language course/any other initiative to make our profiles better ?

2. What exactly are the activities of the different clubs?

3.Placement Update in the site is for 2007.Any updates on 2008 placement.Does any foreign placement happen ?

4.It has been said previously core faculty is little on the lower side.Does it really become an issue ?

5.Any entepreneurship cell in the campus ?

6.What is the work ex to fresher ratio in the class ?

Last but not the least puys at those whose who are sure to join IIT R lets make this thread a little more interesting .... at least start with ur profile and all .Seniors kindly throw some more light on Life@DoMS,IITR.

Here r ur answers dude...

1. One can take any of the courses available within the iit...learnin foreign lang is an obvious advantage...lotsa ppl frm my class had learnt foreign langs durin the 1st sem...F.Ls are gud ways to enrich ur CVs...

2. There are lotsa clubs within the iit...as well as within doms...at doms v hv clubs for fin...ops...mrktng as well as it...they are busy doin their own stuff...wid magazines...n all...at the iit level...u hv a large no. of clubs and sections...music club & himalayan explorer's club are the prominent ones...

3. I shall get in touch wid the placecom & ask them to update the site wid the new placement report..

4. Dnt worry on faculty side dude...i hv come to knw tht core faculty recruitments hv happened...and v ll hv some 2/3 more core faculties frm next sem...though i ll hv to get this confirmed frm the HoD...anyways...v do hv excellent guest faculty frm outside who take up entire subjects..also, faculty is also shared wid other depts frm iit...as in..v had profs frm dept of humanities, dept of mechanical engg...dept of mathematics...and so on...who were teachin us several subjs...so tht takes care of faculty area....

5. Entrepreneurship cell...well...v have a huge one within the iit..called as STEP ( Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Park)...its functioning is on a huge scale...one more cell tht exists is the EDC (Entrepreneurship Development Cell)...

6. The wrk ex to fresher ratio is 67:33...Ppl havin wrk ex less than 1 year are counted as freshers...

Gud news for ppl in the waitlist, a frnd of mine, Suyash(GN 16) wont be joining IIT Roorkee,he has a confirmed seat at IIT R .......so it means 1 more seat is available........cheers

i hv updated the xl and attached it

@All, if u hv frnds who wud also not join and they not on PG, kindly update d excel to help ppl in waitlist

As of now, 11 ppl with confirmed seats(rank <52) wont join, and 3 more wid rank(<75)

Hi Dubya,

Thnx a lot for info.. this will realy help people like me..

I know 2 more who are in the merit list who wont be joing IITR,
But i dont know their names and ranks ,so cant update excel..
(Somebody in private told me abt the info..)

So, till now,, we got only 7 merit rankers (Rank <= 51) who will submit fees
before 28th..
And 5 people (rank <= 100)..
But updates are only 28-29 only..

I will request others to pls come and update the excel.. Dont just visit.
Or pass ur friends info too..
