hi puys

good news for everyone - no body to be affected by quota

source -THe hindu

27 pc quota to be implemented in phases: Arjun Singh

New Delhi (PTI): The 27 per cent quota for OBC students in Central institutions of higher learning, including IITs and IIMs, would be introduced in phases, HRD Minister Arjun Singh said here Thursday.
Reacting to the apex court order upholding the 27 per cent quota for OBC students in institutes of higher learning, including IITs and IIMs, he said the Central Educational Institutions Act clearly says that institutes can introduce the 27 per cent reservation within three years.
As per the Act, the number of seats in non-reserved category in any institute will not be cut down and allocated seats for Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes would also remain unchanged. And to keep the arithmetic intact in an institute with a capacity of hundred, the enhanced number would be around 154.
"The deadline is, however, the current academic session for those institutes which are prepared with the infrastructural support. For other institutions, there is a three year period to work it out," Singh said.
"Facilities is the only limiting factor that can restrict the implementation of court orders in the institutes," he said

so cheers everybody

waitlist and even the obc reserved candidates

regards

DJ

Chk this out guys....

" K Venugopal, one of India's highly respected lawyers told rediff.com on Thursday, "According to today's judgment, the Indian Institute of Management and All India Institute of Medical Sciences will not have any reservation for Other Backward Classes."
Venugopal appeared in this landmark hearing in the Supreme Court on behalf of the Junior Doctors Association of AIIMS, New Delhi.
Explaining the reason behind it, he said, "Justices Arijit Pasayat, C K Thakker and Dalveer Bhandari has clearly said in their judgment that you ceased to be OBC when you are educated and attain graduation. Test of the OBC is social and educational backwardness. It says "and", that means if you are not educationally backward you are not OBC. The court has accepted the argument that if you are able to graduate you are not entitled to reservation."
"Not only IIMs, but even AIIMS and such other centres of higher learning will not have any OBC reservation," Venugopal added."

Trushin, This piece is so relieving. I hope we will soon get an official stand on this. Some of my queries are pending, previous page. Please look into them.

Further to above post, No news channel or news sites, barring rediff ofcourse, are talking about this. They are all talking about creamy layer based on financial status and not on educational status. Why is there a gap between understanding of these wise guys and Mr. Venugopal.
Quote:
One of the examples,
This is what Hindustan times says,
With the court endorsing the legality of the law, the IIMs and IITs would be able to implement quota regime from the academic session 2008-09 itself.
<P align=left>Supreme Court upholds 27% quota to OBCs- Hindustan Times

1. Any update on summer placements of your batch? Considering that your batch has almost 70% work-ex junta, summers must have been better than previous years.
2. Any exchange programmes?
3. If people from your or previous batches have gone for CFA?

Hi Rahul,
Here u go...

1. Summers:

As u hv rightly said...my batch compo is quite gud...so proportionately...summers have also been v.nice...companies like citibank, idea cellular, ibm, sun microsystems, feedback business consulting, cavincare, ht media, bpcl, essel propack, usha international, vertebrand, sidbi, L & T, planning commission of india, IIFCL, DSCL, axis risk consulting and several others hav recruited our batchmates....overall...summers this time hv been v.nices..

2. No exchange programs as yet..

3. Not many ppl here hv gone for CFA..the number is arnd 3/4....though many ppl hv opted to take finance as their specialization domain...

Abt fees, 35k is the tuition fees, mess and hostel fees wud b 8k in the 1st sem...and i think derz some 6k that has to be deposited as a security amt for the whole year...

Lemme knw in case of ne other queries...!
