Its not all over yet dude. Dont forget, match is not over until the last bowl is bowled. Dont harbour any unnecesarry hopes but still Keep the Faith.

Predicting any trends on w/l movement is a very hazardous thing to do but still if it is to be , it will be. So wishing u all the very best for that

cheers!!!

As I'm waitlisted 26 for MBA - FT in FMS, could you please give some clue as to why the waiting list converts fell to 26 last year alone? I'm rather anxious about my position. Is it to do with the fact that CAT was rather tough the previous year and people couldn't get into IIMs?

[quote=lastknight;1041471]Alright, I'm the person to answer the waitlist queries... See last year's thread to know what I mean!

First of all, congrats to all who've converted their calls... Those who didn't make it, don't lose heart... The race is long, and this is only the beginning... :-)

And for the waitlisters, some facts first - in the last four years, the waitlist movement has been till 50, 52, 55 and 26. Anyone in the first 20 on the waitlist, you can reasonably expect to get in... Anyone after that, I hate to say this, but it's probably best not to get your hopes up too much, because absolutely anything can happen... Previously, the waitlist used to comfortably clear till 40-50, but after last year, one can't really can't predict what the situation this year will be...

See my personal take on w/l movement is that it completely depends on the similarity of exams that are held in the yr. Like if u look at CAT and FMS exams in 2003-06 odd time, both were speed based so the possibility of converting both or neither is high than either.

This makes d w/l movement high unlike previous yr that the FMS exam was very different from CAT which makes the probability of exclusive calls high. So its for you to analyze the similarity this yr so as to calculate the probability of u converting it. All the best from our end

Re: [2008] FMS(MBA) final results! - 22-03-2008, 09:59 AM

I dont want to go in the B-School comparison mode but just a few thoughts for the WL candidates. See, generally people leave FMS for XLRI or the six IIMs or JBIMS. The results of JBIMS are miles away so lets forget them. XL results come anywhere around 31st March but before IIMs generally. That will push the WL. And then on the D-Day of 11th April, junta will come to know about the status of the WL in FMS. Some of the junta does have calls from XL and the IIMs and I pray that they convert them

Also, WL movement is guided by the WL of XL and IIMs and their dates of fee payment etcetra etcetra. So, guys, just chill a bit. Wait till April 11 and then everyone will be a better position to know the WL movement.

Last year, the IIM results were delayed and hence the WL movement suffered a lot. Secondly, the common pool of people between FMS and IIMs were on the lesser side which I gather is not the case with the selected candidates this time around.

Better still float an excel sheet and see how many people will join FMS for sure - come what may. Like I think someone has MDI call and is not taking the interview now and will not join XL also even if he converts it. So, it would be better people start taking opinions now and then speculate.

There is no point in indulging in analysis without the data. But don't do too much analysis as one may end up in the situation of "Paralysis by Analysis"

Cheers and All the best !!!

Hi Ashish and Amitnsitian,
Thanks for the in depth analysis of the changing trends in WL movement. I'm keeping my fingers (and toes too) crossed!!

Ashish and Amit have answered this pretty comprehensively... All I can say is, it's only the facts which can help you out now, so start tracking... ATB! :-)

Re: [2008] FMS(MBA) final results! - 22-03-2008, 01:31 PM

Correct me if im wrong... But did the waitlist go to only 26 maybe also because of the placements of FMS the previous season... I went through some threads of life@fms on PG.. and lots of places i observed the statement that FMS had one of the best placements in the country(or atleast it displaced a few iims)... Was that the 06 batch placements???

@iceman - I dont know what correlation you are trying to do here abt WL movement and placements ?? !!!

FMS has excellent placements but I dont know what are you trying to achieve. Am I missing something??? Kindly elucidate.

Thanks and cheers

Re: [2008] FMS(MBA) final results! - 22-03-2008, 01:44 PM

@amit... I am not disputing FMS placements buddy... dont get me wrong

I was only wondering whether a lot more people preffered FMS over some of the institutes perceived to be better than it, last season (Waitlist moved only till 26 as opposed to the consistent 50's)

I was thinking it was maybe because the FMS batch had done better than these other institutes the previous season, and so people considered it a better choice.

However, my knowledge will be limited in this regard, it was only an opinion i had formed from previous threads...

Is it too unreasonable to think of a correlation between placement record of that yr (relative to its competion) and waitlist movement?
