Thanks a lot man. You have allayed many fears about the hostel facility at GIM. I was pretty worried. As i have already mentioned I did go to GIM but was too tired to check hostels.

Anyway, so now that you have helped so much, take two more questions.

1) What is the averege mess bill?? Khane ka kharcha??

2)what are the medical facilities in the vicinity of Ribandar because you see, the best hospital in asia is now an Elite B School..he he.....

Thanks a lot again.

Mess ka bill depends upon u... there are a lot of options around ... genes, jaggus , casa along with the mess ...plus we are going to have a new caterer this year... but around 1500 - 2500 soch lo.... mera is bhi jyada hota hain....

Now medical facilities,
We have a social club, Prayas, that takes care of ur minor medical needs as in medicines n all.. we have doctor Fatemah nearby who treats GIm students free of charge.....
Now for major trouble, which i hope no one falls into, we have a few hospitals in panjim.. GMC, vintage etc... so no problems on that front too...

Hey Guys…

Itna sannata kyon hai bhai…??

I think the thread is seeing a trough in the level of activity. But it could also be a technical reason as I have been trying to post for 2 days with little success…

What has happened to all the converters?? I think everyone has got busy shopping for all the stuff. I haven’t even begun. Not even the laptop…..But I am thinking of starting my shopping with a sacred hard copy of Kotler. It was my Bible during B Com and M Com days…..but I always used the library offering and never owned one. Now that I have been accepted at such a prestigious school, I think its only logical have one in my arsenal. I know the soft copy is available for free…but yaaron, hard copy book ki baat hi kucch aur hoti hai….

Anyway, a helluva lot of shopping is to be done. Right from Gadgets like laptops, cellphone (which I had stopped using during my prep year….I had no mobile) down to the humble chappal slipper…..

But even more important thing is the DOCUMENTS…

Guys, everyone who has never been to hostel, get all your documents made before you leave. Passports, Driving License, Voters Id, Pan cards, Migration, Domicile certificate. As long as you have a pucca address, Jo bhi ho sakta hai banvaa lo. Because once you shift to Goa you will have to submit 2 sets of documents and deal with 2 authorities. And PGP dosent give you time to sleep what time will you have to chase documents. And Important documents have a strange habit. You need them the most when they are not there. So get them in order.

Shopping can be finished in an hour (with no disrespect to our female puys) with the swipe of a loaded credit card….but money cant buy you documents (genuine ones atleast), they take their own sweet time….

@ SENIORS…(Akshat if u r there!!!)

What is this first-come first-serve???

The entire batch will be at the Doorstep of GIM on 19th….then what will they say….”GO RUN TO THE HOSTEL AND CAPTURE WHATEVER YOU LIKE!!!”. Of course not…

Can you please enlighten us as to how will they execute this fcfs system.

Thanks a lot.

Bye

Dude,
The post corresponds to the 'First Come First Basis' for hostel rooms allotment n not the WL movement... The classes r beginning on 19 June.. its not 19 May that is being referenced there..

Cheers!

Re: GIM Final Results 2008 out!!! - 14-05-2008, 12:34 PM

First, u need not buy a Kotler as u would be provided with one from the college itself.... Most important books are provided by the college authorities.... plus we have a huge library, now i dont remember the volumes there....

Next the authorities will not ask for most of the documents like passport etc.. so u need not bring it here... whatever important documents are reqd would be asked from before..
But yes if u want to open bank account etc then a few can be reqd...

Now the hostel issue...
Well in our year on the opening day when the rooms allotment began, there were not many people so who all were there had the first option of choosing the rooms..

It will invariably happen that not 120 of u will reach at the hallowed time when Mukesh, the warden, starts with the allotment.. so the ones there would have the first opportunity... and if it does happen.. I would miss such an amazing fun...

Now what happens is on that day,the rooms will be opened around a particular time say 10 or 11 in the morning, so the guys present thr will have the opportunity to look at the rooms available n select...

Guys the ones locked would be ur rooms(PGP2s), so dont battle with the locks so that u can open one... have patience till the 23rd of june....

Next keep two or three rooms(or may be more) in mind... as surely others might have selected them too... as u never know whn those get occupied whn u r still looking for one...

U guys have to inform Mukesh, who would check whether the room(s) have already taken etc etc.. u guys know the procedure...

@Snape
Its a sort of go run.. but not capture.... be rational n mature.. select... as most rooms have something different to offer and so does the hostels too...
n Mukesh is a tough guy.. he administers the whole process.... dont play any games with him from the beginning... that u might later regret...

In all this i forgot abt roomies... most rules are already explained in this forum so will not start again...

U guys have a few ways a selecting one
i) choose one from b4.. now that can change if u r not in the same section...
ii) choose one thn n thr itself b4 u choose a room...
iii) choose a room and thn wait for someone to choose the same room...

One more thing.. hostel room hardly matters... so dont bother much abt it... i know it easy said than done..

This is all what has happened last year, if any thing changes I am not responsible... (being politically correct)

Looking forward to seeing u all...

Mr. Akshat...Thanks a ton for so much of info...now the coveted question.

whats the deal with these few rooms in the LH ? how does one go about landing in there?
or is it just pure luck ?
& even if you end up there , hows the life there? boring cuz just a few men around ? or amazing for obvious reasons ?

please do answer to these queries...will resolve a lotta confusions...

Thanks

Hey Akshat,

Thanks a ton for such a detailed explanation of the room allotment process. After gathering all this info from you I have come to a conclusion that we all must sit back and take a chill pill. GIM will definitely take care of everything. And as voiced by you, even I had a feeling that rooms do not matter…..well…unless the roof resembles niagra falls..he he…Now just praying that the new caterer knows what he is doing…Goa me khaane ki chinta hai….kyonki peene kit toh koi problem hi nahi….(hic…hic…hic…)

About the documents, well I did not mean that GIM will need it, what I meant was that once address changes, document making becomes a very cumbersome process. So everyone should get them made. GIM only wants 3 or 4 documents that’s it….

Thanks again for taking out some time from your summers schedule to help us out. Do keep posting any useful bit of info that you would like to share with the newbies.

Ciao…
