Re: GIM Final Results 2008 out!!! - 20-05-2008, 12:11 PM

hi puys,
i have been a silent spectator so far in this thread..but now its time to react..well lemme first tell that GIM is one of the best bschools in india and thats the reason why most of us have applied for the same..and yes seniors here have been helpful too..thanks to them..but this doesnt make GIM perfect or flawless..watewa GIM has done in the admission process so far has been quite flawed, and pg being a public forum ppl have the right to point out the mistakes.i wud like to ask the seniors and ppl goin to join gim not to be so obsessed with GIM and pls accept the fact that GIM and its admissions team has made a complete chaos wit its admission..and ppl pls dont ask waitlisters to rethink about their decision to be managers , we have done the right thing by pointing out mistakes ..so just accept it ..thats it...and if possible bring out some solutions for the same..

Another waitlister at GIM..waiting for 2 months to know my waitlist status..

awaiting groans

What on earth is happening on this thread!!! It is descending into a slugfest. See this thread was started to fill in gaps in information. And now it is being used to vent the frustrations and take potshots at one another. Insanity reloaded. Kindly stop it.

First and foremost the biggest doubt in peoples minds….if 20 odd known people have left GIM final calls, then what has happened to those seats if the GIM admin is claiming that all 120 seats are full. I know many people has suggested that GIM might be going the way of a mentioned b school.., but guys give it a break….As rightly said, if your opinions and mental image of an entity changes so fast….you need to relook at your career choice as a manager.

Well one explanation is the unlikely buffer call theory which has been summarily rejected.

Second speculation is that as there are no WAITLIST NUMBERS, the GIM adm committee maybe taking a fresh look at all the profiles of waitlisters. See it’s a known thing that B School consciously try to maintain a diverse profile and there is nothing unethical about it. So suppose there are 22 vacancies after confirming admissions. So they might be reconsidering who is the best candidate among those waitlister to be offered an admission. So just because GIM has been sharing info freely, it now being accused of maintaining a charade of transparency. For once I feel that B Schools who rarely answer phone calls and play tennis with your call transferring it to the watchman, do the right thing…..the GIM staff is becoming a victim of its own goodness. If no decision has yet been taken, how can Ms Jenny tell you anything!!!

And finally, to all waitlisted friends….GIM gets 12000 odd applications…you made it to the 1200 call getters(ONE…JUST ONE MISTAKE IN XAT AND YOU COULD HAVE BEEN IN THOSE 10800 GUYS)…..and among them you made it to 50 odd waitlisterS..so you are in the top 170 ppl among those 12000 people. Which means you are among the 1.5%...the very cream of those applicants (3.5% of all JEE applicant make it to IIT). So this indicates that you are good. Really good. All of you are educated, some working and some placed and you have made it this far….which means that GIM or no GIM you are looking forward to a really good career in this booming economy. Recession fears apart, this is the best time to be a 20something in this country. So if you panic like this as if this is the last B school on the face of this planet…you are surely either kidding yourself or are faint hearted.

And I feel I have the right to write this cos I have been through a reject with nothing in hand. Although I did not have to go thru your trauma cos I knew my result at YMCA only, but still I picked up the pieces and bought a pack of HB pencils and started all over again.

I had a placement in JP Morgan that paid me as much as my dads salary, but I did not work because 8+ hours work and commute would have meant the end of my MBA dream. I sat at home, lived a broke existence while my working friends made thousands and treated their entire salary as pocket money…I took a huge risk and forewent many pleasures..all on a hope that I might be part of that 1% that makes it to a good insti….

Imagine you work on a product for 2 years and you launch it and it flops. Your company loses millions and you fall in the eyes of the management. What then…will you panic…or will you take sanyas and live in jungle???
So instead of panicking and speculating just pray. Take up other offers if you have and refrain from slinging mud at an institution to which till yesterday, you were will to entrust your entire career…

May god grant you your hearts desire.
hey severus bhai amen to dat...........I truly agree wid u cos me too wrking currently at JP morgan and having a package dat I wld have only dreamt of in college some 3 yrs back........but I shall be leaving the same to join GIM without any doubt. There have been numerous temptations that have come in my way that wld prevent me from taking this admission but still I have conviction in the institute and the ethics that it stands for. I don't care what some of the waitlisters have to say because I know that it does not make any difference neither to the institute nor to the students. U are right in mentioning that GIM is a victim of its own goodness.!!

So,lets leave aside this topic that has been an endless one as we are trying to sell an idea to the ones who were the very promoters at the beginning of this race.

BTW severus wats ur name? and are u a part of the google groups that is dere for the 2008 batch. There is lot of good discussion happening dere.

Hi all,

Sorry to inturde in this big fight about the ethics of GIM. Posting this for the people who are looking for education loans. I was myself lost for a long time looking for good and cheap options. I did not find the earlier posts about Andhra Bank (panaji) loan very helpful. So, if there are people who have still not finalized any bank and taken loan, here is what I was assured by Andhra bank Panaji.

1. Loan will be provided to Goa Institute of Management Students at the special rate of interest of 9%.
2. The margin money is 10% of the total projected expenses as per the college.
3. The documents required will be:
a. College admission letter
b. College projected expenses letter
c. student's marksheets from Class 10th to graduation (all semisters)
d. Father's/Co-borrower's last 2 years IT returns, Salary Slip,
Bank Account details/statments, Company I-Card copy

They did not mention any property documents which other banks ask for to confirm that the student/Father are eligible for repayment. Please dont misunderstand that these property documents are asked for mortgage.

To confirm all this information, my father too called them up immediately. My father talked to Mr. Vivekanand who is the Loan officer and also to the branch manager Mr. Krishnamurthy. Mr Krishnamurthy assured him about the loan and said that we need not approach any other bank.

He also suggested that we approach the local Andhra Bank in my city. But my personal experience says that its useless. Here goes the story about it.

I had approached the Andhra Bank at Aurangabad (since thats my hometown). But after numerous visits to the bank for 3 days finally they denied me the loan as they were not aware of any tie-up that Andhra Bank has with GIM. And to top it all the manager there said that for any loan amount above 50,000Rs (yes you read it right, its fifty thousand) Andhra banks asks for mortgage. I couldnt believe it that in todays world where 50,000Rs is just a small amount, they ask for mortgage. Very angry about being denied a loan and also losing out another 4500Rs approx (since i was on leave on loss of pay) I registered a complaint on the website of Andhra bank to which I have no reply yet. I wonder when will these non-private banks improve and learn to be atleast a bit customer oriented.

Anyway, hope some info here is useful to atleast some of you..

Also, i dont have access to Google group from my workplace. Could someone please post these detials on the google group too? I would appreciate that. Thanks!
