Hi all,
Sorry to inturde in this big fight about the ethics of GIM. Posting this for the people who are looking for education loans. I was myself lost for a long time looking for good and cheap options. I did not find the earlier posts about Andhra Bank (panaji) loan very helpful. So, if there are people who have still not finalized any bank and taken loan, here is what I was assured by Andhra bank Panaji.
1. Loan will be provided to Goa Institute of Management Students at the special rate of interest of 9%.
2. The margin money is 10% of the total projected expenses as per the college.
3. The documents required will be:
a. College admission letter
b. College projected expenses letter
c. student's marksheets from Class 10th to graduation (all semisters)
d. Father's/Co-borrower's last 2 years IT returns, Salary Slip,
Bank Account details/statments, Company I-Card copy
They did not mention any property documents which other banks ask for to confirm that the student/Father are eligible for repayment. Please dont misunderstand that these property documents are asked for mortgage.
To confirm all this information, my father too called them up immediately. My father talked to Mr. Vivekanand who is the Loan officer and also to the branch manager Mr. Krishnamurthy. Mr Krishnamurthy assured him about the loan and said that we need not approach any other bank.
He also suggested that we approach the local Andhra Bank in my city. But my personal experience says that its useless. Here goes the story about it.
I had approached the Andhra Bank at Aurangabad (since thats my hometown). But after numerous visits to the bank for 3 days finally they denied me the loan as they were not aware of any tie-up that Andhra Bank has with GIM. And to top it all the manager there said that for any loan amount above 50,000Rs (yes you read it right, its fifty thousand) Andhra banks asks for mortgage.

I couldnt believe it that in todays world where 50,000Rs is just a small amount, they ask for mortgage. Very angry about being denied a loan and also losing out another 4500Rs approx (since i was on leave on loss of pay

) I registered a complaint on the website of Andhra bank to which I have no reply yet. I wonder when will these non-private banks improve and learn to be atleast a bit customer oriented.
Anyway, hope some info here is useful to atleast some of you..
Also, i dont have access to Google group from my workplace. Could someone please post these detials on the google group too? I would appreciate that. Thanks!
