hey vermona,
thanks for the encouragement.. and yeah i dont think indian formals shud be a prob as long as the person wearing it is able to carry herself with ease.. i think instead of wearing something u are not comfortable with and getting conscious during the PI its better u wear something that u are most comfortable in.
i am gonna wear indian formals only.. had thought of it long time back. so... .
hope to see ur responses soonon the topics.
take care,
Dhanu. | | | | | | | |

Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: chennai | Banning fashion shows and late night New Year parties will help in protecting Indian -
10-05-2008, 07:37 AM
PUYS this is wat i had to say, I don’t think banning fashion shows and late night parties will help in protecting Indian culture. In Maharashtra Bal Thakre has been making such a hue and cry about Valentine’s Day every year. But have ppl stopped celebrating it???? NO… Recently there was this dress code issue. Do u think girls actually stopped wearing short clothes??? NO. Infact we saw girls protesting against it. The same will happen if we ban fashion shows and late night parties. Nobody is going to keep quiet. It will become another issue, stay in the limelight for couple of weeks and die out. So you see nobody likes any compulsion put on him or her. Yes late night parties are not a part of the Indian culture, but our constitution gives the citizens of India the freedom to express their expression and new year parties are a way to express the joy of a year end and a new year’s beginning. You can’t ban it just like that. Probably the court could have some terms and conditions, which each place, which is going to have New Year party, will have to abide to. Now coming to fashion shows. I think u can’t ban them completely. Yes they do display clothes which are not wearable by the normal public most of the times, but they also showcase typical Indian wear at times and help in bringing back the lost traditions of our country. And besides that there are so many families who would be surviving on the income earned by ppl working back stage during a fashion show. It will affect their livelihoods as well. Now to “protect” the Indian culture, probably there can be provisions wherein the designer will have to show the entire show in front of a panel of judges; only after their certification will the designer be allowed to showcase his collection on the ramp. {Something like the censor board we have for movies}. Human tendency is to do what they are asked not to do. The more you ban things the more will they do it. It’s usually due to pure curiosity. So instead of banning something to “protect” the Indian culture, we all should inculcate Indian values in the minds of the youngsters from their childhood. As adults we know wats right and wats wrong. So just live life the way u think is right. I don’t think Indian culture is so shallow that it needs to be “protected”. When it could survive thru all the attacks and captures and the destruction by the Britishers, Portugal and the mughals, hundreds of years back, it can definitely survive now. Infact there are greater chances of Indian culture surviving with so many foreigners coming and adopting the Indian way of living. PLS do lemme know ur views.. it wud be of gr8 help... Take care, Dhanu. | | | | | | | |

Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: chennai | Wardrobe malfunctions during fashion weeks: a publicity stunt or just an accident? -
10-05-2008, 07:41 AM
Well you really cant say that a wardrobe malfunction during fashion weeks is just a publicity stunt or an accident. Though I feel its more of the former in many cases than the later. You can’t really generalize it. So I will try putting in my views in case of both. It can be a publicity stunt by a designer who hasn’t been in limelight for a long time or is comparatively new in the field. It just makes his collection the talk of the town with all news channels {who seem to forget they are supposed to give informative news as well} only showing the model’s clothes come off and that lady still continuing to walk as she is paid for it. So this way the designer gets name and fame – though for the wrong reason. He will have lot of customers who may come to at least see his collection purely out of curiosity. At times it may so happen that a designer is known for exploiting the models who walk his ramp and he just finds pleasure in doing things like this. In this case he is least bothered about his reputation. But a well-established and good designer wouldn’t want to have his customers come to see his collection for the wrong reasons. The designer who is already pretty famous for his creativity and talent is more bothered about showcasing his latest collection to his audiences. If he still does something like this for publicity he knows it will spoil his reputation and in turn affect his business. He wouldn’t take such chances, as he can’t afford to loose any old as well as prospective customers, as there is neck – neck competition among designers in the market. Their livelihood is at stake if they do something like this for publicity. So in these cases it’s more of a case of accident than a public stunt. So as an audience, we can judge the case of wardrobe malfunctioning on the basis of two things: · How established is the designer. · The goodwill he has in the market. · The intension of the designer – as in past reputation. It is kind of similar to the goodwill aspect but has slight difference. I hope I have done justice to the topics.I need the views of everybody out here on my posts... PLS PUYS... Hope to see loads of responses on the topics. Thanks in advance,LOL!!! Take care, Dhanu.
