i guess i m the 1st 1 to post the GD/PI experience.....
1) MBA- GD topic- Actual GDP growth of India is not what it reveals...
1 min to think,,, 10 mins for open discussion,,,, 1 min to conclude....
went on really well ,, no fish market.
PI- 5 panelist leaded by A.S.Narag.
extempore topic----- "i m the best, so u shud take me"
ppl were getting nething from this world ,,,, so b prepared.
like---- black beauty, silence is golden, malbury(evn i m not aware of this).
PI is generally for 10 mins, nd very generic.... i mean no acads, no work ex...
2) MBA(MS)-GD topic- shall we continue to subsidize Agriculture Sector.
same format as MBA.....
this time it was a litlle fish market.
PI- 4 panelist leaded by Mamkoottam .
extempore topic----- "last but not the least" as i was the last to be interviewed for the day.
again not very stressful PI ..... why MBA,,,,MS...
few Qs on FDI,GDP, demand supply prize....again for just 10 mins.....
nd lot of thanks to the Seniors...(vishu, amit and Gaurav).....they were very supportive nd helped in making us comfortable with enivronment...
rest all was cool.....

Re: FMS(MBA) 2008 - GD/PI Experiences -
14-03-2008, 11:32 AM
Date – 13th march
Venue – FMS campus
Batch – 1.30 pm
Profile :
Xth – 91.9%
XIIth – 94.0%
B.E.(Computer Science) – 78.7%
Work-ex – 20 months at IBM.
Reached the center at 1 pm.
There we were given a data form to fill. It had some very simple details like graduation stream, percentage etc.
The morning batch at 11 was running late.
So finally at 2.30 pm we were called in.
There were 10 in a batch. As 2 in my batch were absent, we were 8 of us.
After we entered we saw there were chairs with numbers allotted to them, we were asked to sit in the order in which they called out the names.
They asked one of us to pick up a chit from the box, that would be determining our topic for the GD.
The GD topic we got was “RTI has changed the way we live”.
We were given 1 minute to think, later a bell was rung indicating us to start.
GD was pretty cool, everybody spoke, gave some very good points and there was no fish market at any point of time.
After 8 minutes, the bell was rung again indicating we had 1 minute to conclude. At this point I felt too many people tried to speak in our group and as I had already made 4 good entries I decided to not contribute.
My slot number was 2, so I was called second for the interview.
When I entered there 4 male professors and 1 female professor(P5).
Wished everyone and took a seat.
P1 – So Ms.XX, how you feeling today?
Me – Very well sir, thank you.
P1 – Ok so your extempore topic is “Idol worship is a bad practise”. Start right away.
They started a stop clock.
Me – Went on for 1 minute, then the alarm rang, I stopped giving a conclusion.
P1 – You look too prepared for this topic, had you practiced this before?
Me – No sir, but I used to participate a lot in extempores in my school days. SO maybe the practice is showing now.
P1 – Ok good then, I shall ask you for another extempore.
Me – Sure sir.
P1 – Can you speak about XXXXX.
Me – I beg your pardon sir, could not get that.
P2 to P1 : Don’t think she understood that, lets give her a different topic.
P2: Ok your topic is “Nano”, starts the stop clock.
Me – Started speaking and stopped when the alarm went.
P1 – So what exactly does the word nano mean.
Me – Sir nano has different connotations in different contextx. But it typically means to scale down something sir.
It is scaled done 10^-9 times, 1 billionth part sir.
P1 – So what is a nano metre?
Me – Sir, it is one billionth of a metre.
P1 – Are you sure? I think its one billionth of a centimeter.
Me – No sir I am quite sir.
P1 – So what are your hobbies?
Me – Sir I sing bhajans, like doing sudoku and I like reading the works of Sir Artur Conan Doyle.
P1 – But did you not just say idle worship is bad.
Me – Sir I said, service is better.
P1 – Ok.
All of them are smiling now.
P1 – Ok XX, tell me people who don’t like you, what 5 words they use to describe you.
Me – Told 5 words and explained why they would not like it. Mentioned that I like punctuality and people don’t like it that I don’t like it when they don’t maintain time.
P2 – SO you must not be liking us, because we are running late.
Me – No sir, if the dealy is due to practical reasons , it is permissible.
P3 – Which sector contributes most to the GDP?
Before I could answer,
P1 – Ok which other calls do you have?
Me – Sir I have calls from MDI, XLRI and S P Jain.
P1 – SO what is the probability that you well get through XLRI?
Me – Sir 0.5. Explained a bit there.
P1 – But what about the outcome when you are waitlisted.
Me – Sir it is a temporary state, ultimately it will either get converted or not.
Some grueling about probability.
P1 – What is the probability that it will snow today?
Me – Sir almost 0 zero.
P1 – How can you say that?
Me – gave fundae about past history, taking a larger sample to be more precise etc.
Guess this was what he was looking for, stopped talking about probability after this.
P5 – SO do you read newspapers?
Me – Yes madam, I genrally read TOI, but I f prefer following news online.
P5 – What was on the headlines yesterday/
Me – Told.
P1 – So tell me any book of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle?
Me – Sir, Hound of Baskerville is quite famous.
P1 – SO is he called with the name Sir or ar eyou saying it.
Me – Sir he is referred to so.
P1 – So is this book copyrighted?
Me – yes sir it is.
P1 – For how long are these copyrights genrally valid?
Me – Told.
P1 – SO is there any book you are planning to read?
Me – Yes sir, “inheritance of Loss” by Kiran Desai. Spoke about her and told why I wanted to read it.
P1 – Have you read her mother’s works?
Me – Sir I have heard about Anita Desai and read her book reviews but never chanced upon reading her books.
Ok XX thank you, and yes you are truly an extrovert.
Thank you Sir, have a great day ahead.

Conclusion meaning?
See the GD we structured in such a way that I started the GD and gave the definition for it and why it was introducded.
then we went on and quite some people listed the pros to it and quoted with examples. thenwe went on to discuss the cons. Then we also spoke about how its awareness should be spread to more and more people. In the summary all of this was listed. We did not need to reach a consensus and all, its just that everyone needed to contribute substansially.
