hey kewlmba....

Can you give a reason as to why this topic was given to you for extempore. Also, "Nano" : do you find any relation for this one?

btw, I cannot find a more ideal PI than yours, surely you have a very good chance of converting dudette!

Re: FMS(MBA) 2008 - GD/PI Experiences - 14-03-2008, 01:49 PM

hi all

here goes my last GD/PI experience of the season .. at FMS Delhi

Profile:
Xth - 93.3
XIIth - 92
BTech - NIT Trichy (7.26/10)
Very good extra-curriculars
20 Months Work Ex in a reputed IT firm

I was in Panel 1 and going by the list of names, the first person to be interviewed. Verification of certis etal was a normal procedure as kewlmba has mentioned.

The panel of interviewers consisted of 5 ppl headed by the Dean, J K Mitra.

GD:

The topic was chosen on the basis of pick of lots and we got : "The only profit of business is to make business." One minute to think and 9 minutes to talk and again 1 minute to conclude.

I started off the GD; defined business and talked abt profir being a business motive. Then points started pouring in. Everyone of us talked. CSR, Ethics, stakeholders, charity, global warming , anti pollution, long term and short term goals etc etc.. It was a very good GD and nothing smelled fishy. I came in 4-5 times; supported other arguments; counter reacted on some - would rate it as satisfactory for me.

PI and Extempore:
I was the first one to be called in. Mr Mitra went through my profile and pointed out the highlights. There were 5 of them and i wud number them as P1 -P5 (4 males and 1 female).

P3 aka Dean: Good profile
Me: Thanks

P3: Your topic is "Brahma"
Me: Brahma is creator.. one of the three primary gods.. most docile .. and the oldest too .. according to tv serials . has 3 heads .. but actually he has 4 .. has multiple hands .. his aide is saraswati .. brahma is worshipped in only one temple in the world i.e. pushkar .. brahma is the name of a movie in which govinda was the hero .. i bet u folks havent watched it ..

P2: Time up

P3: Do you know abt Brahmos and Brahmaastra
Me: Brahmos is a missile and Brahmaastra is a mythological weapon used by Arjuna .. am not sure though

P4: Why is Brahma worshipped in only one temple ?
Me: Told him the mytho story .. curse on brahma .. same for shiva .. thats why shiv ji worshipped as a "ling" and not in full form

P3: What are you working on in HP?
Me: Blah Blah Blah .. product environment.. module owner .. scalability issues addressed..

P3: What books do you read ?
Me: Fiction .. currently reading Motorcycle Diaries ..

P3: What is it ?
Me: (for the third time this season .. i publisicised the book and Che Guevara).. talked abt the gist .. how he became a revolutionary .. etc etc

P3: Any other revolutionaries from South America?
Me: Simon Bolivar (Bolivia named after him) .. some literary geniuses also have been indirectly into revolution .. Neruda, Gabriel Garcias Marquez

P4: Any poems by Neruda and works by Marquez?
Me: havent read Neruda's poems .. though they have been quoted in Che's book .. Marquez has wrote Love in the times of cholera ..

P3: CAT Score?
Me: 97.6 percentile

P3: So no IIM calls ??
Me: Yeah .. have only MDI

P3: Whats your strong point in quiz ?
Me: Entertainment

P3: Connect Steve Jobs and entertainment?
Me: In 1980, the band Eagles disbanded and vowed never to reunite again. When the drummer Don Henley was once questioned, when they would get back together again, for which he replied “when hell freezes over". Later in 1994, the band re-united and released an album titled,"Hell Freezes Over".

Steve Jobs made the reference to the above when Apple released iTunes for Windows pointing that something impossible had happened. (Apple making software for Microsoft).

Read this in a recent VGSOM online quiz

P3: Hmm .. But he also owns A share of disney .. u knew that ?
Me: Uhmm .. no sir ..

P3: What are your career goals?
Me: Sir i have short term and long term goals .. blah blah blah

P3: Hmm .. oh kk .. (convinced) How tall are you ?
Me: 6ft

P3: Jokingly .. below par below par ..
Me: Sir I am tall enough ..

P3: But the avd height in NBA is 7
Me: Height is not the only important factor in Basketball .. i have seen ppl below 6 ft play a better game .. though the tall guys get the limelight ..

P3: Michael Jordan and HP .. any ad?
Me: Not sure sir .. but jordan came in a movie .. forgot the name .. animation + real life characters in the movie (FYI its Space Jam)

P3: Btw .. he has acted in a Nike ad ..
Me: oh yeah .. forgot that ..

P3: 3 reasons why you will choose MDi over FMS ..
Me: Blah Blah Blah .. intrnl exchange program .. personal feedback from 2 friends there .. some student initiatives..
P3: Good points ..

P3 again: Now 3 points why you will choose FMS over MDI?
Me: Blah Blah .. (at the second reason P3 tells me .. now you are not talking sense .. and smiles at his colleague .. ) gave all alumni funda .. learning motive .. part of DU etc ..
P3: Hmm .. yeah thats true

P4: Any weaknesses that you have ?
Me: Impatient and Untidy

P3 again: Who pressed your shirt ?
Me: Laughing .. local laundry man

P5(female): Any idea about Millenium Development Goals ?
Me: No maam ..

P5: India's economica growth ..
Me: Yes .. i have read the economic survey..

P5: How much is the growth rate ?
Me: 8.7 percent
P5: Ok ..

P3: Thanks Sobhan .. that will be all ..

Came out and met CATCALL .. he had heard my name earlier .. so he recognised me as the_wraith .. had a small chit chat with him and other candidates .. CATCALL has said that results will be out on the last day of the interview ..

Thats all folks .. ATB to everyone ..

ciao
sobhan

Are yaar don't worry. Trick lies in leading the interview in area of your strengths. And this is my belief that every body has got some strengths and achievements. So you need to know the way to lead the intvw in that direction.
Some uses the SOP material. Some uses the opportunities during intvw. During extempore, or in answers to some other questions. So just consolidate your strengths before intvws, and then try to lead the intvw in that direction.
And finally don't get bogged down by good intvws here. Remember, you still have chances to better thoses experiences.
