Hello Vishal & Vivek

It's so nice to see your posts here.We are very much looking forward to join the insti and learn many things out there.I'm sure with a cooperative and helpful batch of seniors like you,we'll have a great time there

Can anybody tell us the rough estimate of additional expenditure( for books, summer internships, any projects etc) incurred on each one of us excluding our personal expenses & the fee paid to the college.

Rgds
Priyanka

i'll tell you the rough estimates

Books - all the books are available in library but students usually buy 2-3 books in a semester which cost them around 1000-1200.
i haven't brought a single book and still have managed to clear all the exams...so buying is not a issue..

Summer Internship - in case you are placed in a city far from your hometown you'll have to pay for your rent and food. if placed in a good company they'll provide you transportation otherwise you'll have to pay yourself. i am at home no no expenses for me.

Food - although all your meals will be provided by college but then there are times when you want to eat outside and will have to spend some money.
there is a raghu bhai and firoz bhai's shop where you can get food( read maggi..egg ..etc) and colddrinks.
now spending varies from person to person... a normal person like me will spend around Rs. 600 per month but a foodie like my roomie spends around 1500 per month...

MIsc exp - around 1000 per month includes outside visits( read movies and dinner) 300 per month for stationary and photocopies..

i dont think we people spend a lot until you take out all your classmates for treat every month.....lol )

Hi Vishal, Thanx a lot for the quick replies. Can you shed some light upon industrial visits... How many did ur batch go for? Do we have to pay anything extra for industrial visits? any costs associated wit the tours? Which companies did they take you to?

we had gone for 3 industrial visits in 3 semesters... first and foremost you won't have to pay a single penny ...all the expenses are paid by the institute.. we had amazing time during these visits... lot of learning combined with loads of fun..

its not easy to send more than 50 students to a single firm so a batch of around 15-20 students is formed for each firm.

some of the firms we visited are:
1. Kirloskar Oil engines ltd (KOEL pune)
2. MAFOI bangalore
3. KPCL
4. State bank of India Bangalore
5. Aditya birla Public School
6. Kirloskar ferrous industries ltd.

there are some surprise trips as well which you'll get to know once you join

Thanks for the replies Vishal & Vivek. Can you explain us about the CGPA system? I mean in the prospectus, they said 1hour=1credit, we need some total no. of credits, and other than class activities, some extra credits for other things... Was quite confusing. Can you tell us how our grades are calculated? What is the CGPA and what's the evaluation system used in KIAMS?
