Sons of Soil issue...India is a country which is known for it's cosmic culture and rich heritage and Indians have the right by the constitution to settle and do our biz.If people in maharashtra can face problems then may be mumbaikars in other states.UP & Bihar being targetted the most and the very fact exists that these states provide some of the best talents and assist in revenue generation exercise. In the democracy, it is imperative that people live freely, but immigrants can not display dishonor towards localites.Retaliation is bound to happen but then endorsing such unconventional movements would lead to turmoil in the country. The world is going into universalisation and we need not be talking in terms of language.Attacking poor hardworking people is naive be it in any part of India. Also giving rise to unwanted racism.

Nice to see so many posts!

My opinion on the Sons of Soil issue:

*I feel the recent events are just political gimmicks to bring in Maharashtrian votes in Raj Thackeray’s favour.

* Raj Thackeray’s behaviour is irresponsible and dangerous because people are so easily incited and led blindly into causing violence and dividing society.

*It is also disappointing to see celebrities coming out in support of Raj Thackeray; this sends across a bad message and we know how seriously the average Indian takes his filmstars.

*Everyone has the right to work wherever they want; after all we are all citizens of the same country. People from all over India have always moved across the country in search of various opportunities.

*We need to look at the reasons that people are coming in to cities like Mumbai- it is simply because of the lack of other options due to reasons such as the present agrarian crisis. Even after moving to Mumbai, life is still a struggle for these migrant workers.

*If Raj Thackeray’s sentiments are that strong, his focus should be more on the upliftment of his people by enhancing the opportunities available to them. He can focus on developing programmes to upgrade the skills of workers and open up new avenues for them.

* Minimum wages must be enforced for all workers so that migrant workers are not chosen over Maharashtrian workers because they can be given lower wages. This will ensure that equal opportunities are given to all workers, regardless of where they are from.

*I agree that Mumbai seems to be stretched to its limits with its expanding population, but turning against so-called “outsiders” is in no way a solution to the existing problems.

Raj T seems to think that because of what he calls the "immigrant" population the "localites" miss out on a lot of opportunities....! This is just a political stunt to garner more votes and encourage polarisation of people.

What he forgets is the fact that the city of Mumbai is the city of Mumbai because of its composite composition and the fact aht every single person came to mumbai to make his dreams come true and gave it their best shot. He also forgets that we are "one" country. Trying to divide and polarise the population citing ridiculous reasons is a heinous crime and is shameful.

Robbing people of thier livelihood, destroying property of fellow countrymen isnt what epitomises patriotism. If Mr RT starts it in his state, other politicians may take a cue from his behaviour and start kicking out people from other states. India will then go back to the age of princely kingoms with loads of boundaries, subdivisions and restrictions

India is ont he threshold of making its presence felt in the world. At this point in time all of us should stand out united. There is nothing wrong in politicians working for the welfare of the people who have chosen them as their leader... But they should look at the bigger picture. He should take up measures to improve the dharvi slum, solve the water problem and do something contructive instead of involving himself in petty politics.

Existance of any state is because of the existance of country. India as a country has always been known for its unity in diversity. With the ugly happenings in mahrashtra and other state where people are being divided on the basis of the state is highly condemnable. The very essence of the country is shaken by such incidents.
The incidents happening in mahrastra are politically motivated and are nothing but vote politics. It is required that strict action must be taken against persons instigating these things. In addition to this the government should also take steps to diminish the unemployment rate prevailing in India. Because people remain unemployed, do they believe in blaming others for their condition. Programme should be run to make the youth employable.

well said mockingabird...
the very act of discriminating the people of other states, is for sure to gain attention amongst the public..Just understand how Mr RT became so very popular- so soon...Something must be done by the govt. before such notorious tactics spread to the other states of the country.

Sons Of Soil issue:

It is very sad that instead of picking up more serious issues of Maharashtra, RT and others are trying to play dirty politics. I just can't understand why such ppl can not think positively and can't think for the masses instead.

Maharashtra where in every half an hour a farmer commits suicide.Instances are there where a father, his son have commited suicide in a matter of 10 minutes due to debt and poor crops.
Had RT raised his voice against this issue he would have seen as the leader of the masses but he did not. Why?Because this will not fetch him the vote base as he wud get by raising the maharashtra issue. What a shame !

Following link has some gud docs created by TISS seniors for aspirants.Dunno if you guyz already know abt this or not.

The best thing about this entire issue was tat its not very often that the congress and the BJP talk the same language, leaders of both national parties apoke as one and demanded tat RT be arrested...

although its sad to see the state governments inability to put this into immediate effects RT got arrested after a week only for him to be released on bail hours later....to bounce back on the front pages after political isolation ..he chose a very crude way ...
