info about IIIT Bangalore

hi guys
i dunno if its appropriate to post this topic here , but i really need some info about the iiit bangalore's PGDIT program..... its brand value, interview process, et al
one of my very close friends has an interview call from there..... c'mon guys, i am sure many of u would know something or the other...... any kind of info is welcome!!

One of my close friends also have call from IIIT Banglore.

He already has IIT Madras in hand and if he gets thru IIIT, he would leave Madras. Also he has FMS MS in hand and his father works as a CFO of a BIG IT firm and they are of the opinion that IIIT would be better than FMS MS.

Also I have heard that Mr. Murthy and Ms. Florina (the lady from HP) are on the board of IIIT. So it should be good.

i got selected there.
though i have already sent the money,
still i have a few questions.
can anyone throw some light on them?
working for the last 2 months in embedded systems in a reputed software company of calcutta.
i am a BTECH of batch 2004.
moreover i have also been selected in SATYAM COMPUTER SERVICES.which is famous for its onsite oppurtinities
do u people think that it will be wise for me to
leave these 2 jobs and join IIIT BANGALORE ?
the main attraction for IIIT BANGALORE are its placement oppurtunities in foreign companies
like MICROSOFT,ORACLE,SAP LABS, SIEMENS, HP, SUN MICROSYSTEMS,TEXAS INSTRUMENTS

but these companies are not coming in each and every year
why is this happening?
can anyone throw some light on this?

it seems as though the students who have made up their mind for going to IIIT bangalore do not frequent this site very often ( at leasts the number of posts in this thread suggests so )

perhaps it is quite natural as the course of IIIT BANGALORE is MTECH and not MBA

but if anyone knows anything about IIIT bangalore it would be a great help for me to take the final decision

though everyone around me is telling to select among the 2 jobs that i have already got
but i have found that people leaving jobs of SIEMENS ( where they had more than 3+ yrs workex)and joining IIIT bangalore

i dont think anybody will tell them fools

if u wanna pursue a techie career then go ahead with iiit

else chuck it..

but remmeber iiit is a decent institute and after chucking it ur aim should be no less than top 10 mba institutes..not less than mdi in any case..if u r confident of doing that...well iiit is not for u else money wise iiit is no less than a lot of mba institutes..

r u associated with IIIT bangalore in any way?
current student or going to join?

i want to ask u a few questions,.

1. why did companies like TI, MOTORALA,ABB,LUCENT did not came to IIITB placements this year even though they came in the previous years ( as far as the brochure) ?

2. do IIITb has a VLSI lab ?how good is it?

3.it seems as though IIIT B has an excellent finance department but when companies are coming for taking MTECH students they look for strong technical aptitude .how does the knowledge of finance help them in their careers??
does that mean a student of IIITb need not go for a mba in future for having a knowledge of the bigger picture of the industry?

4. what is the percentage of foreign placements this year?

5. last but not the least what about the deemed university status?
IIIT HYDERABAD has already got it why not IIITB?
when is the probable date of getting the status?
what i heard is that for getting the DEEMED UNIVERSITY status an institute has to teach at least 6 couses in the post graduate level
IIIT HYDERABAD has this thing and all other deemed universities of india
is the AICTE going to violate the rule for IIITB?

i dont have any information on any of it ...but rest assured dont cast apprehensions on the IIIT b being a bad institute as i said earlier if u wanna techie thing just dont think so much and join...
i dont have much idea about other things like foriegn placements, deemed univ, mba etc u asked me.
