Hi Varsha,
I am in MICA attending the PGPCMX course. Ours was the first batch- and it started in March this year, will be completed by Jun 2009 (15 months). The eligibility criteria for us was a CAT/ XAT/ GMAT score and 3 yrs workex. The admission procedure consisted of MICAT (written test of MICA) and GE PI. Our batch also had few seats for corporate sponsored candidates.
The second batch of PGPCMX is likely to commence by March 2009 and the authorities are planning to upgrade the workex criteria to 'minimum 7 years'.
About the course :-
1. It is akin to a fast track MBA 1 yr course. Only difference is that this course is approved by AICTE, and hence the duration is 15 months. The AICTE approcal means that the diploma awarded will be 'recognised' for academic purposes. So that's a good thing.
2. The subjects offered in the course include foundation courses like Marketing, Business Economics, Statistics, Research Methodology, Communications Theory, Semiotics, business communications, Finance, sponsorship marketingetc... We also have core courses of media like account planning, media measurement and tracking, media research.
Over all the course is designed in the 'cafetaria' approach where towards the latter part one can decide which additional specialisation subjects one wants to do.
Those who undergo the course can look forward to a career in any industry in marketing and marketing communication profiles (which is the USP of MICA) as laso target media jobs across print, electronic and new media. There is an option to specialise in Retail and Design too.
The course has a one month GLobal immersion module. We are just back from a study tour to Switzerland, Germany and UK. There is also tie up with various foreign universities to offer a course insitu for three months so that candidates can earn a 'dual degree.' For us the dual degree was optional, but from the second batch the dual degree is going to be a compulsory component. This means that the candidates of the second batch will earn the diploma from MICA, while simultaneously getting a MA or equivalent masters degree from one of the foreign universities.
The Fees for our batch was Rs 7.5 lakh, and the fees for the second batch is likely to be in the range of Rs 10 to 12 lakh(increase due to inflation + the compulsory 3 month foreign component). MICA has tie up with SBI, so loans are no problem.
So far how did we find the course.... I will say great. We are taught by some of the best names in academia and the industry, as also by visiting faculty from IIMs. The quality of the course is very good.
Regarding accomodation and khana peena.... we all have airconditioned rooms (Silver Oak Hostel), and needless to say, the khana in the MICA canteen is damn good, arguably the best across managemnt schools !
And Life at MICA....well there is no parallel in India.
MICA Rocks!!
Your Corpcom background will be an advantage to you. If you have an inclination to do the course - Don't think twice about the quality. It is paisa vasool.
Regarding placements - we expect to be placed at salaries ranging upwards of Rs 10 lakhs per annum ... how much more beyond 10 lakhs will of course depend on the previous workex, and the company absorbing you.
If you want a top class post graduation, have a lot of fun doing it, and pass out with a fat pay packet...Look no further than the PGPCMX course at MICA.
And remember, MICAns are not merely any run of the mill post graduate. They are
MICAns - for Life !!
