All you would want to know about the D-Day.. - 08-04-2008, 12:54 PM

Hello ALL,

1st comes 1st. About the DAF.

1. If you have already sent the DAF by post remember you have to retain the call letter(1st page) where you are asked to attest your photo by any gazetted officer. Also you have to self attest it. Though they (the people from TISS) were not very stringent about the attestation thing.

2. If you have not sent and will be reaching mumbai a day before you GDPI take a chill pill walk in a day before your GDPI and submit it at the academic section which takes your DAF's from 10-10:30 am onwards.p.s. there were candidates who submitted their DAF's on the morning of their GDPI.

3.You will need to attach photo copies of the documents as mentioned in the Brochure.

At no point during the process you will be asked to produce the original call letter...but still just keep it with you.

Now coming down to the batches...there will be 3-4 batches like:
8:15am , 9am , 9:45am & so on.

All the candidates will have to sign a sheet that will be kept at the TISS gates(security) , also at the main building you will be asked to sign the sheet containing your name and your batch timing.

After that depending on ur batch timing you will be directed to different rooms where some HRM seniors will answer to all your admissions query. In the meanwhile candidates will be called out in batches for their GD's. I would advice all of you to have your breakfast at the college canteen or else outside because the process is lengthy and you would'nt be given a break for breakfast! :icon_cry:

After your GD you will be taken to the new TISS campus for your PI's. Which will be a long wait my friends. In case you are in the afternoon or late morning batch it will get very risky to catch your train/flight because on the 1st day the process extended to 830-9pm.

Guys my manager is calling me..will get back and continue with my post.
Hope this post should satiate your hunger for the time being.

peace!

D-Day continued. - 08-04-2008, 03:27 PM

Hi ALL , continuing my post...

well as far as the punctuality is concerned the process will begin as stated in your call letters..But how long it will go that will go unanswered. They will not tell you when it will end. I was in the 8:15am batch and i was no.4 in the list...My whole process got wound up by 1pm.

Guys the GD will have very vague topics on which almost everyone will have something or the other to say. So dont really break your mind over the GD. Moreover the batch size of the GD will be 6-9ppl and time = 25mins. Everyone has lotta time to speak up. Chances of your GD becoming a fish market is very low. The need of facts and figures will not arrise in most GD topics so forget about mugging them up. All you need is a lil smartness , presence of mind and how to recycle ideas in case u run outta them.
You will be give 2 topics and your time shall start at that moment. Your group will have to decide which topic to discuss...discuss it & conclude all withing 25mins. They will not be asking you to conclude at any later point of time. So basically the whole GD is self managed by the group. Even without much indepth knowledge of indian economy, politics, global issues you can do well. Just keep a smile and be confident of whatever you are saying. & very importanty stick to your stance. do not contradict yourself ever.

About the PI , well the weightage is of 75 marks when compared to the 30 alloted to GD.
So anything under the sun can be asked to you guys. On an average the PI would last from 20-25mins. Can stretch upto 45mins as well.

People who have booked trains/flights for the evening/night may have problems in case they belong to the afternoon or the late morning slots. TISS will not give preference to people who have travel plans..they made this clear on the very 1st date. There will be no change entertained.

You guys will get food coupons at the hostel as well as the academic section. After/before your PI u can enjoy a wholesome meal at the cool serene TISS campus.

Also about how to get there....people travelling from the western railway line have to get down at dadar, change line to central...catch a train to kurla... get down there...change the line to harbour line...catch a train to govandi and get down there.
From govandi station TISS campus will cost you exactl 9 bucks (minimum). its actually a 10min walk.

for ex: Borivli - dadar - kurla - govandi ( 1.5 hours).

As far as my PI was concerned the panel spoke on random topics such as :

karnataka politics , work-life , TISS culture , situation based questions , family life , about myself , academics ( freshers I would advise you guys to brush up a lil on the technical front ).

Finally they gotta select 1 outta 60 candidates they interview. Probably with a fantastic GD & PI u can fancy your chances. We have nothing to lose . Have to go out there with our guns blazing...

ATB guys !

peace

Re: TISS HRM 2008-10 Call Getters, GD/PI discussion and experiences - 09-04-2008, 11:26 AM

hiiii PG.....
guys am writin my experience on this thread.....i hope u enjoii it and gain somethin from it....
my GD/PI was on 7th and its 9th today and am still in mumbai.......
well.....guys....frst of all.....let me clear al ur doubts on DAF and hostel form alng with accmodation in mumba with travel plan, call letters.....:robot:gosh!!! to much to tell.......but don wrrie friends i'll add everythin here including my experience frst.......

1. DAF
guyz who have downloaded the DAF frm tiss site, filled and sent it to TISS office (don worrie abt what u mentioned the address for tiss, writin just TISS, mumbai will do th job.....okie ........).....they can sit relaxed nw coz ur mails must have reached by now to th admin office.......
for thos who think that they sent it but not sure whether it reached the faculty or not.....don wrrie guys.......:nervous:just make sure that u make a photocopy of ur DAF before pstin it to tiss office....okie......they'll ask u to carry th photcopy......in th interview hall......
for guys whp still not hav th xerox....stil nothin to worrie......just download th form from tiss.edu fil it up, and carry it along with u on th D-day and show it to th pannel.......okie....i hope i cleared ur dubts.......

just relax and be coool.........

2. call letter
guys wh haven received their call letters.....:nervous:just chillout......they r not askin for th call letters......once u reach there..........still, if u r apprehensive abt ur time slots....in which slot u hav to give th interview.........no big deal tiss, faculty/seniors r always there to tell u ur time slots.....just carry ur registration ids written on ur admit cards......u remember.....like mine was 8500700015..............

3. hostel form
PGs y r u worried abt th hostel thing yaar.........ek baar admissin ho jaaye....fir hostel kaa pata kar lena.....kyun abhi u want to kharaaab ur dimaag n this........

4. experience
haan now comes th big thing......
well my interview was on 7th.......and know what around 250+ students is appearing daily for hrm lr interview....here...........
i haven' received my call letter....:death:so just went with my registratin id and certificates phtocopies(all waste they wont check also......)
once i reached th campus, the cordial, polite (i must say) administratin gave me my time slot..........it was for 11:15 slot fro th GD..........
well....things started a bit late.........guys who have come for this 8:15 slot.....have to wait for approx 2.5 hrs for their turn to come and start with the day's prooceedings......so my slot of 11:15 actually took place at 1:30 in afternon......not that th management was at fault for this completely.........but it was just that things went on at a slow pace coz of every1.....students turnin up, managemt, parents......etc etc........
in GD's peple were given 2 topics.......
my room had 2 people to judge and there were 7 students in my group fr gd.......
thn topics v were given were:
1. women make better managers (a biased topic so opted out)
2. peace and non violence an obsolete concept........
v were given 25 mins of time including th time to reach at a common consensus to decide th topic of discussin.......v all unanamously chose th 2nd topic......it went goood....every1 had their say.......very co ordinated gd.....no fish market....no aggressin....and finally a conclusion.....i guess every1 had toooo many chill-pills b-for th gd............
it all went fine......
peple gave all their gyan on everythin from kalinga war, ashoka, budhism , peace, bhagat singh, gandhigir concept, RDB, israel palestenian war, hoggekennel project, politicans as true violent makers, munnabhai's gandhian policy.......us iraq war......to make this gd as a healthy discussin without any confrontatin
and th judges asked us to disperse after 25 mins.......

interview.....
well, after havin a healthy and refreshin lunch opcorn:(TISS takes full care of students comin from outside.....had b'fast, lunch arrangemets dunn......plus there facilities.......)after th gd.......th notice for interview slots were put up for each id......my turn was in th evening......at 5.......:death:
as my turn came, i went inside the hall........there were 3 guys in th panel.....:angry:with 1 lady.....1 faculty welcomed me in and asked me to take th seat........i neve' thot guys,,,,that this interview will not be a stressful......1....infact it was a cool 1.....more of a stress buster after a long wait in th hall........panel was very polite in askin their questions and seeing th DAF.........uppydog:
my frst question was asked by th lady.......y after doin engg from patiala, a transitin to satyam cmputers in chennai and finally to TISS this year????????
i gave some correct answer to it.....guys i wont publish answers here coz i don want u to copy anythin.....just be urself in what u say.....dn take on any1 else's mask on urself.....okie and just chill out durin th interview................
second ques was why HRM?:new_shocked:
how HRM works in my cmpany where i work?
roles, responsibility and challenges hr has to face........
hr's cntribution to the indian sciety.......
what if an org has no hr management........
.....guys guys guys.........dn think there askin me too many stressful questions......yes they were but in a very cool manner as in a healty discussin...........
keep ur chillpill on........:chillpill:
they were expectin somethiing more convincing from my answers i guess.......but cant say anythin befor th results r out..........so jus keepin my fingers crossed.........:boat:

this way i finally ended my interview......there was no point carryin th certificate file inside.....tey r not seeing anythin except ur DAF.........

5 mumbai accmodation
well, tiss is in deonar, mumbai.....:bigearple comin from outside mumbai can take up accmodation in chembur(th nearest place to tiss).....with many goood hotels and accmodations.........:new_rainfro:don run for hostel accomodations within tiss..........
th hotel roms r pretty cheap and fine......ot make a stay for few days..........:bday:

finally i can say is ALL TH BEST....BE COOOOOOL AND GIVE UR BEST AND JUST NoT WORRIE fER ANYTHING.......

still if any1 has any doubt......PM me....:grab:mail me or call me @ 09940087547......i'll be alwayz available t help u out..........take care:rockon:
