also regarding laptops, i dont remember if anything was mentioned in the admission letter regarding laptops. are there any bulk deals at discounted rates for laptops in SIBM or nething arranged by the student community?
banks are giving out loans at 13 to 13.75% interest rate. generally Public sector banks will ask for collateral for any loan above 4 lacs. in case you know the manager of a particular branch, you can get loans upto 6 lacs without collateral. HDFC gives loans upto 7.5 lacs without collateral. you need to have your offer letter, expenditure sheet given by SIBM and many other docs bfr you apply. i have no idea about any good offer, if anybody comes across it do let all of us know.

yes in the admission letter nothing is mentioned about laptop, but in the expenditure sheet which the SIBM admin will give you its clearly mentioned that a laptop is necessary for each and every student. and yes the IT team of SIBM (another student association like ASR) does negotiate with various dealers and tries its best to get brilliant discounts for the new batch students.

In order to apply for the Loans you need to get a separate Expenditure Certificate from SIBM signed by the director. You can ask for the certificate by either mailing them or collecting it in person.
I took the expenditure certificate the day i went into SIBM to submit my 1st Installment fees. They asked me apply in written and handed over the certificate the next day.
It details semester wise break up of fees and also mentions expenses incurred on books, uniform and travel.

the admission letter talks about fees of only 1st year. the banks will not give you loan for entire course unless they have an official document which details the fees for both the years.

what todayim has described is exactly what i received too from the admin dept of SIBM.

Re: [2008] SIBM results out - 12-03-2008, 04:56 PM

Seniors,

Could anybody help in telling us if there is any "approved" or "recommended" configuration for the Laptop ? I tried calling the SIBM office 2-3 times but somehow could not talk to the System Administrator who I was told was the right person. The other people didn't have a clear idea.

I have heard that there is usually some help and discount provided for Laptop procurement by the institute students (IT team ?) but it would be better if the same is communicated at the earliest so that we can take a decision whether to buy from some other source or not.

Info abt last year and configuration would be enough i guess.

For example, if we procure a Laptop from some friend in US it is much cheaper (combined with an employee purchase program it is as good as half!!) and if I do want my friend to bring it for me when he visits in May, I have to make a decision now otherwise it wouldn't be possible !

So I hope I am being clear and not seen to be too pressy and overenthusiastic

I believe that taking edu loan 4m private banks is not a good option because first, there interest rates r high and also the repayment of it would be a difficult process as of having many formalities and as per govn't banks like as u said 4 best deal ther is DENA bank giving loan on 11 %,BANK OF INDIA 12.5%,SBI 12.75 r good options and quite secure as well

are you sure of SBI giving it at 12.75% ... the branch in bangalore clearly told me that they will charge 13.75% ... Bank of India officials refused to divulge the interest rate to me unless i apply for loan. they said that depending on the application they decide the specific interest rate, from the band of interest rates. DENA bank i did not contact...

i think apart from interest rate, collateral and payment period matters too. payment period and conditions is mostly same. its the collateral which keeps varying.
i have not taken up the loan yet. looking at all options. please junta provide your inputs / experience
