IITR GD/PI exp :
Had my GD/PI on 17th Feb...I'm from Mumbai...reached Delhi on 15th night,stayed at my cousin's house for a night...took a Jan-Shatabdi to Roorkee on the next day...I enjoyed that train journey immensely..my first ever in N.India..reached Roorkee on 16th night..A friend of mine who studied at IITR had come to pick me up at Roorkee station..Went to IITR by cycle-rickshaw(another first for me)..Was allotted a room in a boys' hostel named Jawahar Bhavan...Got my room changed coz it did not have any furniture inside it..Had dinner from the mess...Later that night, seniors informed me that my slot was to be at 1 pm the next day..Spent the rest of the night chatting away with the other GD/PI guys..Took a tour of the beautiful campus on the next morning...reached the DoMs building at 1 pm..Process started at 1.30..Started off with a ppt...I had my interview first..Was slotted in the panel containing the HoD..was nervous but some pep-talk by seniors helped me cooling my nerves

A panel of 3 : Lady (L), Old Prof (O) , HOD (H), Me(M)
L: So you live in Mumbai...where in Mumbai?
M: Told
L: Navi Mumbai is close by, right? Why was Navi Mumbai developed in the first place?
M: Told about infra overload on Mumbai..threw in other examples like Delhi-NOIDA as well
L: Y Management?
M: Told something about how workex inspired me and blah-blah
O: Tell me about your company?
M: French MNC, size..bragged a little
O: Tell me about the MNS issue
M: Gave him a balanced view...the usual bakwas about infra, political ambitions, employment etc
L: Hobbies?
M: Told
L: What kind of poems do you write & when?
M: Told..nature, dark thoughts,blah-blah
(All of a sudden HOD breaks in)
H: Tell me the connection between Sanjay Dutt & Leander Paes?
M(took only a fraction of a sec to answer) : Rhea Pillai
(All of them start laughing...they refuse to stop)
H: That was outstandingly quick!
M: :happy:
H: Why have you come here with such a good rank?
Just for rehearsal??
M: No...Tried to defend myself :redface:
H: Will you take up IITR at all? :angry:
M: My first pref is XYZ coll but I place all the others on an equal keel...blah
H: I am 100% sure you won't take up IITR
M: Sir, no...gyaan
H: Compare IIT Kgp & IITM...Y do ppl prefer IITM nowadays?
M: Balanced answer...equal keel ka bakwaas again!! Forgot to answer the second part though
H: OK...Thank you...You may leave
M: Thank you!!
Good PI on the whole
GD:
A group of 8 with 8 minutes to discuss plus 2 mins to think. A person was asked to pick up an envelope from among on th many lying on the panel's( a panel of 4) table. Guy picks it up, reads the two topics:
“Death Of Socialism”
“Scientists should not join politics”
Group was asked to pick up one topic..settled for the latter.. Not too fruitful discussion with the same points being repeated over & over again..Not at all chaotic..Ppl talked about primary responsibility of politicians, scientist-politicians in China..I made only 2 decent entries...Panel asked us to summarize...One guy started of ...pathetic summary...I tried to join in...not very successful...Overall a very average GD
Was very hopeful of converting due to my high rank..Turned out so...Ended up with an overall merit rank of 14!!...Special thanks to all the Roorkee seniors...Arpit, Manas, Sameer, Abhishek..You ppl are really special...Did not come across such hospitality & encouraging pep-talk in any other insti's GD/PI
