Reached IITM around 8:15.. reporting time was 8:30
The hospi desk was already functioning and we had to confirm our presence, then we were asked to wait in a hall.
At 9:00 the HOD walked in and the presentation begun. An awesome walk-through on the life @IITM, pedagogy @IITM, take aways from IITM etc.. around 20 mins of discussions and then we proceeded to the main activity - GT/PI

We were divided into 4 groups of nearly 10 in each, every group being guided by a 1st yr and a 2nd yr student..:smile::smile:

GT
Topic: Select any one of the existing party in India. Draw a plan to bring about a change in them by introducing a professional approach to them.. (the wordings are not exactly the same.. but similar)

2 mins to think.. 1 min to air their own views. then the floor is open.. 1 person summarizes and then a written summary by all
I personally didnt like the way the discusson was going :nervous::nervous: and it tended to be a fish-market more often than not..
The main point of choosing a party itself was convienently avoided.. and i could not overpower others in terms of loudness and hence came in only twice or so..

This was very cool.. didnt know how long it lasted for me.. but for others it went for 15-20 odd mins..

Y have ur percentage goin down in grad?
How was the GT?
Y didnt u shout ur way out?
This is a competitive world.. So u should have come out with ur points in an aggresive fashion etc..

Handled pretty decent.. atleast thats wat i think :lookroun::lookroun:

After the presentation, we were led to different panels(totally 4)
Our GT topic was marketing womens sports to the public.
Average discussion, though it did not become a fish market, there was no clear consensus arrived and moreover we stressed on improving womens sports and not marketing it to the public.

PI: P1 and P2 same as in GT. M - Me

P1: Why MBA?
M: told
P1: kept explaining why I should not be doing an MBA for my goal...
But he was clearly explaining it as a matter of fact and not just to gauge my replies
This went on for around 3 mins
P1: what is it that you want to specialise in?
M: ops
P1: define quality.
M: lack of deviation from a set of standards defined.
P1: who defines it? producer or customer?
M: customer
(then he gave a proper definition : quality is meeting the customers stated and implied needs.)
P1: tell me some quality standards
M: ISO
P1: (cuts short) what is ISO : 9000
M: donno
P1: what is six sigma?
M: told
P2: why is outsourcing being done?
M: told( cost advantage)
P2: effects of outsourcing in US
M: told(employee resentment, job losses)
P2: software exports from india (value)
M: donno
P2: setting of software parks in rural areas. what would be your reaction?
M: told(gave a pretty good answer) ( improve infra, is talent available, employee work-life balance)
P2: exchange rates. and its effects
M: told(dollar goin down, less revenue for indian s/w exporters for same work, increased operating cost(increased salaries) )
P1: (was checking for mark sheets till now) u have scored centum in maths in x and xii, but y the dip in college. were u careless or u have a valid explanation
M: i said maths marks in coll were good.
P1: (corrected by saying the marks in general)
M: told that i lost focus a lil bit.
P1: have u done anything to retain ur sharpness in the recent years? will u be able to sustain the rigours of mba course.
M: i said sharpness was always there...just that i did not devote enuff time for studies in college.
P1: asks for me jmet mark sheet. points out my good and bad scores in logical and quants resply.
M: told that am comfortable with puzzles rather than remmbering maths concepts.
P1: (gave a riddle and a maths ques)
M: answered both of them
P1: what are ur interests?
M: automobiles and pets
P1: have u read 'zen and art of motorcycle maintainence'
M: have only read half of it...but now currently reading toyota way.
P1: when did TPS start
M: did not remmebr...said after second world war.
P1: he corrected (1962)
then a round of thank u's

Hey had my GT/PI on 16th in Mumbai

Time - 8.30 Am
Overall a very organized process. Everything started on time. Kudos to DOMS for that.
We were shown a film about DOMS followed by a short speech by the HR faculty

After that the GT

We were supposed to start a political party
A very good GT....I strated.... no fushmarket..Everyone allowing each other to speak..Everyone spoke...Good GT for most

Then i was 4th for the PI same panel
P -Prof
Y - passout of DOMS
M - Me

P- Describe ureself n family back
M - told

P -Why did u leave u job early
M - Gave genuine reason

Y - U seemed to score very well in Mechnanics..O`ll ask a basic question
M - Sure

Y - Asked me about relation between fricxtion and a vehicle and to give an example...
M - Asnwered well

Y - What stream u wanna choose
M - Answered

Y - Business leader u admire
M - Warreh buffet

i think an official communication has been made that the results will be announced only after the 7th of April.

i think you can wait till around the 2nd week of April for the same.

i guess about 3 weeks will be given to the first list of call converters to confirm their joining the insti and payment of fees.

Started of with a cool video. Liked the video and the statement of the HOD which says: "Here at IITM we prepare MBA grads for their 35 yrs career and not for the 1st job".
We were divided into 3 panels. I was in the panel 1 and am the second person in the panel

GT Topic: There were few chits and the lone girl from our panel was given eh oppurtunity to pick one.
"You are a high level executive committee of the Sports Authority of India. Prepare an action plan to promote women sports in India."
GT was cool and all but 1 guy spoke. He was asked to summarize. We were given 2-3 mns to write the sumamry of the discussion.

P1 (A civil dept prof also actively involved in Mngmt course), P2 (operations prof) n M(Me)

P1: Ur rank is 143. So u wud have got calls from IITB,D n KGP, are we wasting time in interviewing U?
M : certainly not sir coz evry IIT has unique program and balh blah
P1: U have become a Project Lead in 2 yrs, so u r heading in the ryt path in ur organization. why do you want to do MBA?

P1: What are ur hobbie?
M : Told a very interesting hobby of mine and discussed on that for abt 5 mins.

No checking of certs but checked the call letter for registration.

The student co-ordinators were very cordial and answered all the queries patiently. I liked the hospitality, infact I asked one of the co-ordinators, where the canteen was. Inspite of he sitting at the helpdesk and being busy, he took the pains to come with me and show the canteen which was about 5 mins walk from DOMS. Kudos seniors u rock.

I had my GTPI on 17th morning at IIT Madras campus.

GT:
8 members. 5 mins to write our points/views in a paper.15mins to discuss. 5 mins to write summary. then both the papers were collected.
topic was about choosing a political party and bringing professional management in it.
our group did only a average job in the GT and not much points were discussed.

PI:

i was the 7th to be interviewed. 15min of interview.

P: you are from xyz college. why is ur college rank going down now
M: college is trying to make more money ... blah....
P: do u know who is ur college batch mate who is currently in 2nd yr here
M: Mr.X...we passed out in the same yr.i know him very well (but he doesn't know me)

M: (Thanks my friend for establishing our college reputation)
P: where is ur school

P: u r staying near by. last week there was a news that water table in aminjikarai area is several feets up. do u know abt it?do u keep track of ur well water?

In overall, i had a poor GT and a good PI. rank is 578. so i cant conclude anything of it.
During my long wait for interview, seniors were telling stories about their carrom matches and the sledging that was taking place during their sports events on the previous day.. then i met quagmire also there. seniors were very helpful from the beginning....
