IIFT GD PI Experiences[2008-2010]

The profs were quite cool and amiable and did whatever they could to ensure transparency in the process. FYI the essay writing section has been scrapped.
We were divided in 3 groups of around 10 ppl each


GD Topic : Changes in investment choices (or sth like this) of the Indian middle class
2 mins each for us to air our views and around 20 mins to discuss .....The GD turned into a fishmarket at times and there were a lot of us trying to make our point heard..not a good performance imho....the profs then asked us to summarize the discussion in 30 secs each but this was not done for the other 2 groups afaik

barely lasted 8 minutes!!!!

not keeping any expectations as the junta was top notch and the competition is going to be very stiff so just hoping for the best and prepared for the worst...out of the few people I met 4 had all 6 IIM calls...Am quite happy though that one PI is done and I can relax a bit..All the very best for the upcoming GD PI's

and 1 thing more...i've heard iift interviews r filled wid facts nd figures popping up every now and then..ws it so???

i feel ur process went pretty fine... DOnt woory too much abt competition & believe me these BLACKI's r there only to help more ppl clear the waiting lists

gave the gd/pi at blore...
first of all big news.....NO ESSAY.....they changed the format.....

profs were really helpful....xaplined whole procedure nd points on which we will be evaluated....

GD- topic- changing investment pattern of indian middle class....
everyone had sufficient time to say....nd it was well maintained though became a
fish market in last 10 mins....
in our group in last 5 mins...prof said no new points r comin...so he tossed in his points
nd discussion continued...also it strecthed too much on investment in stock market...
sm key points raised were - presence of more options(with entry of private players)
role of media....nd increased awareness of middle class
ivestment in education
investment in health
rather than investing in gold ppl see at stock market(increased risk taking ability)
availibiltt of credit,EMI nd investment in real estate & can it hv same repurcussions as US

these r sm points tht i can recall(sorry if i m wrong smwhere)

it was cool affair...
asked me to introduce myself....(end the introduction at point u want faculty to ask q's)
i ended at point tht i was most comfortable in nd got 2 more questions which i answered well)....
u hv exp of 2 months only...why dun u hv few yr exp nd then do mba
(was expectin this...i think i defended myself well)...
i said in previous ans tht attitude matters...so they asked me tht then thr is no
imp of experience in company...
(said thr r CEO's in age of late 30's with ppl of age 60 workin under them...
thr r PM's with 5- 6 yr work ex nd with 10-11 yrs work ex...so it matters but only to an extent)
so how wud u determine salary of a person...is it on basis of work ex?

said somethin to save myself...but it was gud....nd seemed like they were convinced

i had written i play hawaiian guitar...so sm questions on it....
also he asked me tht when u read the nowels...i said 2 months back...
was it coz for iift(actually yes....hehe)...replied no...i read train to pak coz my grandfather
used to live in former pak nd he witnessed nd told me his experiences....so was curious...

asked how i hv demonstrated me leadership qualities in just 2 months of work ex
(gave example of proj in trainin nd proj in coll)....

had written my love is my biggest strength....thried to grill me on it...
but i defended well.....said it ade me realize importance of commitment, dediacted effort nd blah blah

so overall it was lill long pi for me...but it was fun...profs were friendly...
they were smiling...no tensed faces...nd were supportive...

one advice...instead of memorizing the ans..mk sm pool of 5-6 gud points related to urself,management....nd then u can use it wherever u feel they'll fit...
i had 3-4 high impact points but i used them all at different stages..)

best of luck everyone....now i can sleep for few days knowin i put in my best effort...

In case you are coming by bus then take a bus from Majestic to Shivaji Nagar and the you can take a rick....The nearest landmark is the Bangalore GPO/The Indian Express building and/or Cunningham road..Many of the auto drivesr also know of coffee borad.Would suggest to try and reach by 8:45 as the traffic sux + the moody auto drivers are a menace...I reached 5 mins before the start

U people don't have 2 worry about the duration of the interview....in general PI in IIFT are always short.

what all stuff we need to carry to the process....are original certificates etc asked for,if so what certificates..only curricular or extra currics also.....also were ppl wearing suits or just formals with tie...

How long is the GGD/PI process taking....actually mine is on 31st Jan 9.30 Bangalore.I have SIBM on next day.So can i plan to take a bus to Pune at 3 noon or it will be risky
