Not as volatile lik other sectors.......

i have a query for actuarial science....seniors pls help...
i just learnt that MBA in actuarial science does not mean u become an actuary....correct me if i am wrong....u need to clear separate exams conducted by CAS n SOA to call urself an actuary....n its like 2 stages with 8 papers n hefty fees...

so wat is the normal practice...is it that during or after this course ppl clear this exams as well???

On comparison basis - how does someone with MBA in actuarial science fare against someone who has cleared all these papers one after the other after graduation??

suggestion welcome...it will really help me to decide which sector to take up...

Well budy in past I did have a chat with one of the seniors at Actuarial Science........
He said its nt compulsory to clear these papers bt yes many companies consider clearing the papers of ASI a must for placment.....

An actuarial trainee has to clear the ASI papers and work for almost 4-5 years time to achieve the status of an Actuary.......
It involves around 15 papers ,, nd it takes abt 4- 5 years to clear them(on an avg)......
So its like we need to clear these papers while workin as well........although their is no restriction in time limit to clear these exams........

That is the reason why i was actually astonished to see weightage given to work ex people even in this field.....

well nt sure abt the fees but it isnt tht costly.......its course material does cost high.....
bt seriously these courses are damn tough........One of my frends who is at IIT KGP he said one of his batchmates is appearing for the past 2 years nd cud clear jst 4 papers i guess.......with no offences to nyone.....bt tht speaks for itself the level of papers we need to clear........
U knw u can appear for these exams even before accquiring ur undergraduate degree .....people can clear these exams after passin 12th with a score of 85+ in maths......
I wish i knew tht earlier.......

hope tht helps for Actuarial people

Re: Nmat Sectoral 2008 - 01-04-2008, 08:44 AM

hello ppl,

my rankings r too low....191 with score of 95 for gruop d...it is worth coming to nmims on basis of provisional adm with a DD of 2,10ks as my interest is just global/banking or not worth it???Need to break many invemtments to make that dd and so no point coming there and returning empty handed.

Niru

they've inc my score from 106.5 to 106.75 ! (grp B)

what a huge leap....

but my rank has happily come down from 32 to 36. i dont know what these ppl are playing at! they say they are going to revise the scores so why can't they do it properly.
my score before gd was 101 now its 106.75.. inc of 5.75 marks.. whereas in grp D i've got an inc of 13 marks.. so i'm good at gd-pi one day but dreadful the next!?
starting to seriously hate nm now.. no use complaining also cos i'm sure they wont do anything now..
well congrats to all who made it.
