Xat 2008 - Queries and Discussion -
29-05-2007, 11:06 AM
hi all,
I am starting a new thread to discuss the XAT 2008.
any kind of help/discussion related to XAT exam would be appreciated, but please restrict yourself to XAT exam.
I am sure there are a lot of PGs who have a lot of XAT resources in terms of Question pattern and also the interview experience.
So guys please start the thread with healthy discussion and material.
Thanks & Regards
Sarsij

Sarsij..........i dont know if u have written these exams before, but for the sake of this post and for other readers let me assume u havent.
if u go around PG, which i think u must be familiar cause u have been here in PG since April 2005, u will see that a lot of threads here revolve around CAT. coaching institutes also give most importance to CAT. all this is done with a purpose.
everybody who plans to do an MBA doesnt just stick to CAT, a smart guy wld keep his options open by giving CAT, XAT, JMET and a host of other exams for the simple reason the preparation for these exams is 95% same.
yes there is a difference between the tests, in terms on muber of section and cutoff for EG SNAP has a GK section and JMET has no sectional cutoff like CAT or XAT. but all said and done these exams still just test our apptitude. so a seperate thread for XAT is unneeded.
XAT had a simple pattern till 2 years back and since the past 2 years it has been giving much tougher papers in the line of CAT. and since we are not allowed to get the paper home its very difficult to get a clear pattern analysis.
and as for the interview stage, this thread has come a little late for the last XAT and a little too early for the coming XAT.
get ur basics right, we dont need a seperate discussion for CAT XAT JMET so on. this thread can be useful maybe in another 4 months.

Hi Bharat,
Thanks for your advice. I appeared for XAT 2007, and I was not prepared for what happened in those few hours. I did appear for CAT 2006 and I was quite comfortable with it {may be, because the standard of the paper was not so high this time, except english}.
This time I am preparing for CAT XAT and JMET. And I believe that these three exams, eventhough, have a common aim to test our aptitude and ability to perform under pressure, but , their approach to test the same is different, and XAT stands out to be the most unique in all three {also the IIFT paper}.
I felt that - to crack XAT comfortably we need to have a better level in Quant and a better level of RCs. And while studying for CAT we devote ourselves so much to this exam that we are hardly bothered about any other exam, and hence a dismal performance in other exams.
I would be personally delighted to see some exact XAT 2006/2007 questions so that others too may get a feel of the paper and also get a difference in the approach of CAT and XAT.
I personally believe that CAT and XAT are two different ball-games and should be tackled in a different manner.
Others please comment. If any XAT cracker is also on the board, then please do write your experiences....both, XAT and the XLRI/XIMB interview.
Thanks & Regards
Sarsij

Re: Xat 2007 -
30-05-2007, 02:49 PM
hi all
can we have a daily menu of things so that whoever reads this thread gets to know something on the daily basis. and this should ofcourse contain things related to XAT exam.
I am of the view that we should have following things as a part of the daily menu here:
(at least 3-4 things out of the following list)
1. 2-3 Words
2. 1-2 quant questions
3. 1 set DI Question
4. 1 set Logical Reasoning
5. 1-2 Parajumble
6. 1-2 DS questions
7. VA and Critical Reasoning questions.
8. Passage for RC
If people wish to add more to the list then they may add. Everyone is welcome to contribute.
Thanks & Regards
Sarsij

Re: Xat 2008 -
30-05-2007, 11:01 PM
hi puys...i as an aspirant wouldnt exactly agree that the preparation of the xat and the cat would differ to a gr8 extent....it is more about jus adapting to a different kind of paper...the RCs in the cat this year were closer to the usual level of the xat...but i have noticed a few things about the xat paper that tend to throw people off their balance in the paper.
1.the double column format used in the xat(like the one used fer editorials)
2.the higher level of the QA section
3.the confusion caused by the RCs..
I half fell asleep going thru the VA/RC section and didnt score well in QA despite my thinking that i had done pretty well.Overall it felt like big wallop.but i hadnt done all that bad...i ended up scoring 98.74 and making it to ximb...sectionals of 97.x,97.x,85(QA)...so to get thru the xat..the basic things i would go fer are...
1.hindu editorial daily(especially the more boring ones)
2.Extremely high accuracy in QA..not necessarily a high attempt...the difference between the 85 that i got in qa and the 99 that my friend got was jus getting two QA questions right and not wrong.
3.Good amount of DI/LR practice as this is the most scoring section in xat.
As fer the GD/PI part of it...this is the link to this year's XIMB interview thread...

My ximb gd/pi experience..

hope this helps.

hi puys thanks u for opening this thread. well this years XAT was somewhat based on last years XAT and both were equally tough. we have to brush up some high level maths and keep solving RC along with improving verbal.
