INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE - PART I
hi guys,
I had my GD PI on 11th Mar(9 AM batch) : Bangalore

There were 9 ppl in total. My friend had it the day before and there were 5 ppl then. I was kinda hoping that mine be the same way. 9 ppl meant avg airtime reduced by almost 45-50 % :( . we waited for the GD to start. It started at around 9:15

GD topic: India needs more entrepeuners than managers
We were seated in an open semicircle and the panelist formed the diameter of the semi circle at a distance, from where they could observe all of us closely. I was seated right in the middle (5th among 9) facing the interviewers. We were given abt half minute to ponder over the topic and they pressed the bell tostart.
I started off with defining entrepeuners and managers and difference between them. There was chaos after 2 minutes of starting. I noted 3-4 people speaking simultaneously at times. A complete fish market. 9 people in the GD. cant expect it otherwise.Soem good points were made liek why we need entrepeuners in India and not managers who just join industries and continue managing the existing stuff. Most of teh good points that ppl made was lost in the noise i guess. I had 3-4 interventions and after that each of us was asked individually to conclude.
I concluded saying that India is growing. We need it to grow and not just maintain what is existing. For growing we need entrepeuners and managers are needed to maintain whatever is existing etc etc. Hence entrepeuners are more needed over managers.

INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE - PART II
PI: I was the fifth. We started socializing by then. I went in when my turn came. They asked me to wait for a minute outside. Then they called me in.

There were three interviewers P1,P2,P3
Me: Good Morning Sirs,
P1/2/3:Good morning.
P3: Please take your seat
P1: So, Soumik Tripathy, where are you from?
Me: Sir I am basically from Orissa, i finished ny schooling partly in Orissa and remaining in Gujarat.
P1: So you belong to Orissa?
Me: Yes Sir,my mother tongue is Oriya
P1: Where in Orissa are you from?
Me: Sir, my roots are in Jagatsinghpur
P1: Oh, so were you thr when the super cyclone had struck?
Me: No Sir, I was in Gujarat that time
P1: Did You visit Orissa after that
Me: I visited after few years but the damage was visible even then. The trees had not grown back fully. all the trees were uprooted in the cyclone.
P1: Did you lose any property in that?
Me: (Was feeling hillarious answering this) Yes Sir, few coconut trees and one of those trees fell on the staricase of our house in the village.
P1: Ok, so where do you work?
Me: In Huawei Technologies Sir
(They dint get the pronunciation of the name. Actually even i dont know how exactly it is pronounced. A chinese name)
P1/2: What is it..(Saw my XAT form) ok, Huawei.. So what is it?
Me: Sir it is a chinese telecom company
P2: Chinese ppl have come here to work is it?
Me: Yes Sir, they have their Software R&D here in Bangalore
P2: So what do you exactly do?
Me: Told them abt the platform I work in. etc etc.
(P2 asked me some work related stuff.. I told them.. can rate my performance in that as satisfactory..)

INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE PART III
P1: Do you know abt the Indian telecom industry?
Me: Yes Sir.
P1: What do you know abt it?
Me: Sir the Telecom industry is growuing at a steady rate. In 6 years it has become 10 folds.. from 5.5 million subscribers to 55 million subscribers in 6 years..
P1: So, do you know abt TRAI?
Me: Yes sir, Telecom Regulatory Autority of India
P1: What do they do?
Me: As a Regualtory body they lay down certain rules that the telecom operators have to abide by
P1: Like what?
Me: Sir, like setting a maximum tariff for calls. They would determine the limits.
P1: are you sure?
Me: I am not sure Sir, but since they are a regulatory body in telecom, they should regulate all these things.

P3: Ok, so Soumik.. give us threee reasons why we should select you
Me: Sir I believe I am dynamic and in the current scenario I have good awareness. I from the people who have applied, I think i stand a good chance.I am dedicated to my work. I was the Campus Placement Co-ordinator for NIT Trichy where I did my B.Tech from and people who have worked with me tell me that I am very sincere to complete any task given to me. My proficiency increases while working in a team. Hence I think I should be selected. (I dint like my answer all that much)
P3: Ok, so these are the reasons.
P3: So you say you have worked in a team?
Me: Yes Sir
P3: Can you tell me what is the most difficult thing for a leader in the team?
Me: Sir, it is consensus. If every team member agrees to an idea, no leader is reqd. but for a given task,a strategy is to be adopted. All team members need not like that idea nad might have a different strategy in mind. But once a strategy is decided by the team, every member should put in their complete faith in the method and that the leader can lead the team to success. Getting this attitude from the team members is a challenge for the leader.

P1: What does your father do?
Me: Sir, He was working for RSP(Rourkela Steel Plant) earlier and now he works for L&T. He is an engineer.
P1: Where is he now?
Me: He is currently transferred to Kolkata.
P1: What other calls you have.
Me: No other calls.. only XIMB. i applied to IIMs, XLRI and XIMB alone
P1: what was your XAT score
Me: 96.45
P3: Ok, suppose you have worked for 2-3 days and you are very tired. How do you relax?
Me: I just lie on my bed, put on some soft music, read some light stuff and then go to sleep..
P3: So, just music, books and sleep..
Me: Yes
P3: Good

Me: Sir, Can I leave or do I have to wait for any other round?

I am not very sure how my interview went. As in nothing can be said abt interviews. As Vits rightly pointed out.. No point predicting on the basis of interview.

I had my XIMBEE GDPI at The Stadel, Kolkata on 10th March at 11AM slot...
Met cyberdude there... Cool guy... He was one of the better speakers in the GD i thought

GD topic was -"India need more vertical growth rather than horizontal growth"

There was 1 gal in the group who started the GD but I felt she could have given it a better direction... GD was a mixed one with occational 'Hallaas'.. Overall, it was good as we all touched upon the useful points...I was the 3rd speaker i think... Explained Vertical n horizontal growth and that the later is more important...Also towards the end talked about the thrust needs to be given to Health, Education & social security (gyan )
And before ppl cud conclude, the bell rang..10min were over :neutral: ...

PI: I was the 4th person...
Panel had 1young bearded prof (Y), 1 Old prof (O) and 1 lady prof (L) ...

I dont remember the sequence of questions...I wud just put them down as follows...
(it was 12.05 by my watch... So started with Good Afternoon Sirs and Ma'am )
L: Tell something about urself (I never ever prepare this one just spoke some stuff..also mentioned that i want to pursue MBA in HR Also mentioned that I had got thru IMT-Ghaziabad's HR course couple of years ago but could not join the course due to some problems... Dunno if this will go in as a +ve ??: )

L: Which other calls have u got??? (Told XL-PMIR and all the IITs)

L: SCMHRD??? (Dint apply)

L: TISS ??????!!!! (Dint attend cos i had some important work at office...shud have mentioned that Bangalore did not have a test centre :neutral: )

O: Hmmm..ur College is XXXXX...isn't it a Govt college?? (Told "No.. There is a similar sounding Govt college in which Non-Karnataka students are not allowed)

O: Tell me about ur college... (told a lot of positive things... Also about the Ranking i love my college anyways )

O: Tell me somethin abt the Hostel food... (I loved this one... was Mess in charge...spoke about the changes i brought about )

O: Why u did engg and now MBA? (Told some realistic reason...they seemed convinced)

O: How did u get into ur college??? (Explained to them about the Entrance test...15% quota for Non-Karnataka students..Counselling...)

O: Why u chose Bangalore for u Graduation??? ( Told that i cud not make into IITs n RECs...In my opinion Bangalore was pretty good at that time for Engg education...also about Work culture and Professionalism in bangalore.. :neutral: )

Y: Tell me difference btwn VOIP and IPLC... ( WTH... told abt VOIP..and that i dont know whats IPLC)

Y: Was VOIP not in ur Curricula?? (Told that we were not offered that..It came under Mobile Commn subject :( )

O: What are the various forms of communication... I mean telecommunication... (Told that mainly it consists of Landline and Mobile... About the teledensity, etc.)

O: VOIP comes under Fixed line or Mobile??? ( Told " I GUESS it is under Fixed ??: )

L: But then u told VOIP was a part of MOBILE Comm subject... (Told "thats why i had guessed cos i am not sure... I have seen Internet telefony being used at Cyber cafes...and since it cant be taken out, i felt it was Fixed line )

O: Are u in the HR Dept AT Infosys??? ( I wish i was.. Told "No..I am a Mainframes programmer there...Working for a Banking client" )

O: Okay...Are u then well-versed with the Banking softwares?? (told "No sir.. Being a Mainframes guy, my work mainly pertains to the Back-end... Banking softwares are mostly used by ppl working on JAVA & DotNET technologies )

O: Okay tell me which part of Banking is where technology can be used for betterment??? (Told "Microfinance")

O: NO No.. I am taking about operations... eg. U know we can withdraw money by technology? (Told Yes) Deposit (thought a sec and told Yes)... Now what about outstation cheques??? Say i want to encash a cheque of Kolkata at Bhubaneswar, how many days will it take??? (Told "3 days"... Realised and said "Yes ..this can be improved" "Sorry, I am not much aware of the Banking operations" :neutral: )

L: Tell me about ur XAT percentile... (Told overall upto 2 decimals )

L: Also the various sections... (Told all 3 upto 2 decimals... thought they were checking my memory )

L: Have u taken any coaching for preparing for this... (Told "I had taken a test series comprising of 8 tests spread over 2 months for Practice" )

L: What other hobies do u have apart from Cooking(had mentioned earlier)... (Told abt Books and was expecting some questions which dint come :neutral: )

They looked at each other and then said :Thank You Krishanu

(I asked them can i take the file... They said "Sure".. I took it and Thanked them with my mn$ Smile---> and came out of the room)

And ya,during the course of the PI, both Y and L went thru my file having alll the certis and EAC docs along with the Educational docs)


Dunno what will happen... thoda tension ho rela hai... VOIP and then the Banking Operations ...two things that i floored... Otherwise I was pretty cool thruout the PI... :neutral: )

My ratings: GD---> 7.0-7.5/10
PI---> 6.0-6.5/10 :neutral:

p.s: Old prof(O) was Prof Santosh K. Biswal ... I found out from the Site later...He is an Expert in Operations Mgmt is what his profile said...no wonder he asked me about the Banking Operations!!! :neutral:

gd started off as a fish market but thankfully settled down after 2 mins. ppl were allowed to make their points without being interrupted.. i got an opportunity to make 2-3 points... at the end of 5-6 mins, we were asked to individually summarize on the topic... was the last guy so most of the points were exhausted by the time my turn came so provided a counterview to others' opinions

i was called in for the intvw after a couple of hours' wait...

P3 : there's a prob there. Army has occupied 2 km of land and has a 20 km/hr speed limit. If anyone exceeds that, then he is made to crawl under his vehicle 10 times and then he is let off. This causes inconvenience to passengers behind the guy. what would be ur solution.
me : ( what ????? ) there should be road signs indicating the speed limit and speed breakers can be strategically placed to avoid speeding of traffic. an alternate route should be identified. the punishment is a ridiculous one. If the speed limit is justified, have fines as a penalty which is a speedier process.
P3 : hmm hmm ( not at all satisfied )
P1 : so whats the difference between correlation and causation ?
me : i haven't come across the word 'causation'
P1 : ok, what is correlation - give an example ?

Congrats to all puys for great GD/PI processes...
As already discussed on this thread..this process is so unpredictable, its no use losing your hair over it! So much depends on your non verbal communication and interviewer's perceptions, its really not possible for even the seniors to predict anything on the transcripts..

So just chill..you did all you could..keep your fingers crossed..and wish me LUCK!
