same feeling here - its an unsolved mystery. however, my take on the whole issue is that one needs to be himself/herself in the interview. often, in our urge to impress, we end up potraying ourselves as someone we are not. and these interviewers are experienced ppl, its tough to fool them. so for me, prepare well and be urself - thats the mantra - and it has worked well till date (touch wood )

tht pretty much sums up the gist of wht interviews are all bout...
with one exception,
if the initial few ques are on acad(oh no!) and they're frm the areas whch u've been dreading since long(wtf!!) thn u're screwed up big time...being urself becomes ur nemesis then!...never understood if there s a way out frm this situation!!

thats exactly why i said preparing well along with being urself was the mantra. the former shud take care of the acads. and even if u r not well prepared, not all who get selected answer all the questions, do they??

p.s: ur clarification wasnt needed. i hope all users of this forum are matured ppl and recognise a joke wen they see one

Byzantine,this time in gdpi in delhi,ppl with work ex were nt grilled on acads,nor on thier profile..was jus a cool profile gd and they werent even interrupting the candidates..on the other hand,freshers were grilled like nething...but in the rest of the centers,ppl are being grilled vry much,
plus during the gdpi process do they knw a candidates score also be4hand?coz they did ask my score nd werent aware of it be4hand..
I m still confused as to y in delhi only the gds are of 2.5mins and intervw of 5-6 mins without ne grilling...bt again it all depends on thier discretion...lets c....

dnt worry, even if it might seem to u that the interviews are going pretty cool and easy, the panel definitely has a proper collection of parameters on which they r judging the candidates. i guess the difference in the type of gd's and pi's in different cities is quite representative of the way the teachers teach here.... every teacher has a different style of teaching, but at the end of the day, all of them are equally efective.

Hello ppl

Here's my experience..

venue: The Stadel, Kolkata
Time: March 8, 11.00 am

GD: Topic was 'love marriage or arrange marriage, which is better suited to india'

got 2 mins to think by watch, n ten minutes for gd.

things like wat is marriage, char of love n arrange were comin up. stuffs like knowning each other, mutual consensus.. i entered say after 2-3 mins with corporate marriages , likes of tata corus.. talked abt it, had a neat airtime of 20-25 secs. did nudge in with one liners n other dimensions to the topic. final conclusion, rather gd was directed towards a consensus that love is better..

mine was the third last interview..

3 panelists

they asked me how was abt gd, n y did i raise the topic of corporate in this context. i answered gd was good n organised, everybody got a chance to speak, then marriage cud be of individuals, even companies. so its how u look at it.
then stuff like why mba, wat do u do. i said i work with my dad.

asked alot about my dads business, was able to answer him confidently..

then came the bouncer??: .. wat is core competencies, or specifically c.k. prahalad had written a book on it. wats ur take on it.. i was abt to answer, when he asked that whether the same was in my curriculum or not, i said no sir, he said ok then leave it.

next googly .. so wat are generic strategies of porter. man i didnt even had a single clue, of wat he was talking about. i told him that i did not come across him during my bba.

then whose peter drucker, told him abt mbo n related stuff.

he inquired was that it to mbo, i said as far as i cud recall, there might be something more that i cant recall.

they a lady asked that have i heard the name of maslow.. i explained her the need hierarchy theory..

she said do how do we practically apply..

i said that though maslow had prophesied that it shud be applied step by step, yet in practice we have cumilation of different kind of needs in varrying levels.

they asked abt other calls, i told them i had calls from gim, iiswbm, n mfc.

as far as ur interview is concerned @ saket padia it seems nothing unusual...mine was also entirely acads based...and the most interesting thing it it was exactly one yr bac.
dun be tensed coz u had no clue abt Porters analysis...as alredy pointed out its not who answers all the questions gets in...atleast thts wat my exp says..and as far as Maslows hierarchy is concerned , tht was predictable with the HR lady being ther...so just chill and concentrate on ur other calls if the int are still left...

have always believed in enriched myself and learning from every new experience; and it is on the foundation of these learning’s along with my ehello guys had my gd/pi troday at 9 am in kolkata........
reached there at 8-15 and the process started at 9 sharp
there were 4 guys and 4 gals in our group....
gd topic: are we doing enough to save the environment
1 min to think and 10 min gd time--this was told by one of the panelists
well all that came to my mind was oh no not again ......i only thought about the crappy essay that i wrote anyways the bell rang and the gd started.
1 of the girls started it and before i could put forward my points all my points were said
2 of the boys dominated the gd and didnt let anybody else speak but still put forward 3-4 points....like csr and b-schools planting trees etc......
the gd ended and i was the 5th person to be called for pi...

there were 3 panelists 2 male and the third female lets name them m1,m2,f1.........
i entered and wished all of them good afetrnoon though it was 10.30 in the morning.....

f1 spoke about all my extra curriculars,hobbies ,interetsetc.
m1 could u tell me some names of football movies?
me sir goal 1 & bend it like beckham though i didnt like that movie.....
m12 cricket movies?
me sir have not seen any hollywood movie but in bollywood lagaan,anwal number etc.
the discusion on movies and specially method acting went on for 3-4 min
m2 what does ur father do?
me sir business and elaborated about it
f1 what other calls ?

f1 describe the whole process ??
me blah blah mentionjed specially the job question that they asked .......
m1 where did u get a job?
me sir i opted out if campussin because of my long term goal....

i had studied acads for the last 1 month like i had not studied for the last 4 years i prepared 4-5 subjects but what an anticlimax the only acads question was from AI oh god

me (relieved) explained with an example not confident but they were a little convinced

the panel was very cool they never stressed me
each of them wenty through my file comprehensively and each of them took out my xat scorecard and looked at it for 1 min...dont know why????
overall 3 good answers one related to shares n csr and the other 2 related to movies and AI .....rest very basic answers
