Dude.. there is no grilling about acad stuff like IIMs for a workex guy/gal.. If you are experienced, prepare for questions related to work.. and your domain. I have 3.2 years of workex in developing applications for U.S capital markets.. I was asked about the business flow at a very higher level at my organisation.. ( In my case, from an order placed to settlement of a trade ).. Nothing in deep.. They just want to know whether you have that inquisitive mind towards the firm's business, or u are a pure techie only.. So, brushup your domain knowledge at work..

hi

its nice to see the activity on this thread picking up.Finally i decided to join GLIM .My name is shiv and i have around 5 years of work exp mostly in the service industry and tourism. i hold a masters degree in tourism from pondicherry university.I applied to glim with my cat score 93%.My Xat score is 96 and i have a final call from from XIMB.My interview was on 12 th march. There were about 25 people in our batch. After the formalities we were divided in to two groups. The topic for gd for the first group was importance of cricket diplomany today. For us the topic was what makes you proud to be an Indian. We were given a sheet of paper and one minute o jote down the ideas. Then we started it was a normal discussion and each one of us spoke well. After twenty minutes we were asked to stop. After that those people who wants to take get were asked to do so.My interview was fifth. In the panel there were two members from facult Rekha shetty and prof.Ballantyne and two members from industry and one student.
When i entered the room they greeted me and asked me to explain my name what it means then there were questions from essays and why you want to do mba and that too full time .Why glim.what makes you think that you will benefit from your one year with us.Tell me the difference between marketing and sales(i am working as a marketing and admin manager for a cosultantcy and training frim at that time). What makes your firm so unique and suppose we want to try your firm show us how you will market it to us.Then questions regarding my hobiies ie reading ,Tell us the latest book you read give us a summary.have you heard of the title who moved my cheese tell us the core point of that book. The interview was a pleasant experience coz the bord was actually trying to pressurise me by asking questions one after another.they were shooting one question another entirely different from the topic and content of the previous one. They are interseted in finding out how you will cope with surprises in corporate life.Regarding academics they did not question me anything except the direction of the tourism industry in india. My interview lasted for 35 minutes and in the begining they were grilling me throughly and in the end we were having nice discussion.I came out of the room feeling good.
After the inter view i met deputy dean narasimhan. He asked me about my work experince and in front of him were my interview and gd score sheet.we talked about my work and family and after that he told me that i am selected and i will get my offer letter with in a week. They couriered it to my address and asked me to pay the fees before 24th march.
That was it my decison is mainly bsaed on the brand value of bala uncle and the duration of the program. If i can get into any good company like godrej or hdfc by spending one year in glim than spending two years in XIMB for the same kind of placement i will take glim any day.GLim willbe a brand to reckon with in 3 to 4 years time .Acoording to to plan of the campus the new buildings anre designed on th e format of MDI and there is going to be a live trading room for honing stock market skills which is part of the initiative with yale.
All in all its a good investment considering that from next year the same program may cost 5lakhs once they move in to the new campus.Five years down the lane supose if you want to start your own company and funds are low if the plan is viable you will not face any problem to get the attention of VCs since at that time if things are going well i am sure it will GLim will be one of the top ten institutes in India.
so people wiith work exp this is the place to be in one year of hard and smart work ,one year of togetherness and friends for life.Hope those of youwho are aspiring to get in will succeed in their efforts.
chalo bye

This is great news.. When I read in brochure about a 20 yr workex guy in GLIM, I was thinking.. Is it gonna continue ?? .. .. It seems, in just one year GLIM has managed to attract more workex pepl who are more than willing to go back to school, leaving all their plush life behind.. Honestly, I am just amazed, at how high pepl are believing in such a new insti.. I personally know 3 guys with 3+ years of workex who is joining GLIM.. I dont see any reason why it shouldnt command the brand equity like ISB in 3-4 years...

Exclamation GLIM Gloom - 30-03-2005, 11:23 AM

hi guys n gals. this is a MBA aspirant who wanted to pursue an MBA in chennai (due to personal and financial reasons) Well... this is what i had to say to GLIM after waiting for a month to get a reply from them. The college which is still in its begining stages may have a good future but has some serious home work to do.... this is a mail i sent them recently.

Thank you Ms Manisha (she is the officer-admissions) for your efforts. Just a few points I wish to convey.
I have already joined another college. For, during the interview process I noticed, how being a musician is such a disadvantage to pursuing an MBA. I was not asked one technical, academic, work related question. It was an interview with suspicion of whether the MBA was a time-pass for a muscian. I would've been surprised had I secured an admission with the view the interviewers had.

After being given dates of decision for 15,17,25,28 there are already friends of mine who will be backing out with concerns of such unprofessionalism. Without wasting too much time I only want to say, please stream line your process and dont give dates just for the sake of giving, please stick to it. Surely somebody doesnt want to hear a decision date of 'on or after 25th' that is definitely an indefinite date. All this for a management college.

Please note : I have taken best efforts not sound like a soar looser. In the process if i have, my apologies.

I wish GLIM and its TEAM of faculty and students all the very best.Lets see this college as the best not only in Chennai but all over India.
