Re: IIFT Gd Pi Experience 2007-2009 Thread - 31-01-2007, 08:53 PM

had my gd/pi today at kj somaiya
EASSAY:Professionalism in politics.
i loved the topic could write a decent eassy ..

GD:POPULATION OF INDIA BOON OR BANE.
I had a really good gd no fish market type situation. Was the last to conclude
i thought did pretty ok

PI:
Q>WHY iift?
gave reasons..
Q>some questions on cricket ?
Q>GIVE ANALOGY OF LIFE AS A FOOTBALL MATCH ?
Q>HOW WOULD YOU DEVELOP A MOBILE GAME FOR THE INDIAN MARKET ?(my domain)
Q>Three things you would do if you were prime minister of india ?
Q>IF YOU FOUND SOMEONE DYING BEFORE COMING TO THE INTERVIEW...WOULD YOU
HELP HIM?
Q>WORK FOR NGO"S
Q>WHY ARENT THERE MANY MORE WOMEN IN CORPORATE WORLD?
and a few more all open ended questions no cross examination...
basically i think this was the case with everyone..i think they are judging attitude and communication skills more than factual content..

All in all couldnt have asked for better three round...pleased with my perfromance..
hope the panel is too cause there opinion is the one that matters..

Re: IIFT Gd Pi Experience 2007-2009 Thread - 31-01-2007, 09:51 PM

HI ppl.. sorry 4 the late reply.. Had 2 get back 2 Vizag y'day itself.. n don hav a lappy( Wish i had one) heck!! anyways..
Had it on Tue, Jan 30th at hotel Golconda, Masab tank at hyderabad.

There were totally 22 people called that day, divided into two groups of 11 each. I was the 9th person in the second group.

All my group members, lets call it the ebony group, were seated in an hall. At about 9:30 we were called to a board room kind of hall, where each of had to sit at the alotted place. Each seat already had a plate with our roll numbers. The eighth person of our group didn't turn up, so it was 10 of us. The group comprised 9 guys and one girl, with most of them having work-ex, barring me and one other guy.

there were two mods, a lady and a gentleman, who handed us blank sheets, for the essay. then after listing out the procedure, the topic was given - "balance between Professionalism and Family". we were given 20mins for the same, and the word limit was 300 words.

Just after the Essay, even when the gentleman was collecting the sheets, the lady started of with the rules of the GD. The same as expected - Initially each one gets about 90seconds to speak on the topic, and then it is open for all, with each one of us being the moderator for about 2-3 mins. The topic for the GD was - " RTI act is an hamper to decision making process". It was a very decent GD, with each one gettin his own ample share of limelight. No one exactly knew what the job of the moderator was. Bring in order to the group, Show direction to the discussion!! it just went on. There was a bell being passed on to signify who the moderator is.

I was pretty decent in the GD, with a whole lot of facts to throw. I vomitted all of it in the initial start itself, and came into the GD a pretty decent number of times. While moderating, i tried to get the discussion to the beginning core issue - "Before carrying on, Why don't we first look at what the present RTI act states??". On the most of were quite satisfied with the GD, and thanked everyone for not making it a fish market. As the time came to an end( around 45 mins), the last 3 ppl did not even get a chance to moderate( Not that it really mattered!!). We were not even asked for a conclusion.

At about 11, after the GD, we were asked to wait in the other hall for the interviews. Here the panel gets swapped, between the two groups. I guess IIFT believes in the concept of " Better 6 ppl give an opinion rather than 3" or maybe they do this so that the panelist does not have any preconcieved prejudice towards anyone on the basis of the GD.

anyways, more abt the interview in the nxt post..
until then CHILL!!!!

HI Puys! Sorry for the delay in replying. As you might have already seen the essay and GD topics have been put up my fellow puys, so let me add experience in the PI,

Apart from the why-should-i-select-you-over-others questions and a few work related qs, I was asked to name 3 sea ports in the eastern part of India. I replied Vizag, Kolkata and Chennai. Then he asked me how would I transport a cargo from Bangalore to New York thru sea. He wanted the ports or atleast the countries I need to stop thru. I blurted something like thailand, Japan, etc.. Could'n recall what other countries came in after japan. ??:

Then a bit about my company and how it is faring and stuff like that were also asked. I wasn't asked too much from my CV.

All the best to those who have their GDPIs in the coming days!

Cheers

The pattern was same as wat was on previous days....There was a panel of 2 for GD...

P2: IF you have to innovate a product and put it in the market what would it be
B: Bakar
some more questions

Then finally..t
P1: Thank you

Re: IIFT Gd Pi Experience 2007-2009 Thread - 01-02-2007, 01:03 PM

hi all,
I'm back to my city and on my work desk...
had my interview yesterday and following were my experiences:

the topic for the essay was-
Professionalism in Politics is the need of the hour...
we were given 20 mins to write and i fared pretty badly...couldn't manage my time properly. I kept dreaming for the first 10 mins and couldn't write the conclution. My paper was snatched away...

next was the GD- Large population of india a boon or a bane...the group kept adding new points right till the fag end of the discussion and we all tried our best not to repeat the points...

now came the most important part the interview...
the serious looking moderator in the GD was one of the person(S) in the panel...there was a person with french beard (F) and the third one was a harmless looking chap (H) and ofcourse it was me (A)
the moment S moved into the room i was standing out...he said "u've come so soon for the interview" and simply moved in...after say 10 mins after the three extensively read my CV form, i was called in-

A: good morning sirs.
S: Hi A please have a seat.
A: thnkyou sir.
S: you date of birth is 20th Aug right, there's another day which famous in Aug. Do u know that???
A: (kya pooch rahe ho yaar:neutral...yes sir i think you're pointing to the indipendence day of india...it's 15th of aug.
S: which year?
A 1947 with a smile...(feeling awkward)
S: okay so your father is in SBI what circle does he work in? and why did u move into Nagpur...other questions related to family...
A: (boss bakre ko halal karne ke pehle khila pila rahe ho) blah blah blah...
S: (now it's his turn)your father is a banker ur mother a teacher...why do you not wan't to be a teacher and a manager???
A: (...uffffff) sir i don't have to be a teacher to impart knowledge...i've been a a mentor and a trainer for the juniors in my company...i've solved the doubts of many friends during engg before the exams...i've also been a teacher for my parents and i've also taught guitar to a no of friends( bhai guitar pe poocho...i'm a musician...please...) i think i'm already a teacher...(spontaneous but i think a good answer)

S: (changes gears) so you're an industrial engg...Why MBA??? after working???
A: blah blah blah...
S: what are your strengths???
A: more bakar...
S: your goals in life???
A: entrepreneureship(E)...
F: what should be the qualities in an entrepreneure(E)???
A: (confused look)
F: (trying to comfort me) okay give me three qualities that should be present in an E
A: 1- creativity
2- risk taking
3- managerial skills
S: Y IIFT then ???
A: sir creativity hai...risk taking ability hai...IIFT mai managerial skils seekhenge...(decent answer)
H: kuch indian entrepreneurs ke naam batao
A: (yaar ambani aur mittal ke alawa koi bhi yaad nahi aa raha...felt my mind getting jammed for the first time during the interview) sir Dheeru bhai Ambani...
H: okay...nice answer...why was dheerubhai so successful???
A: (thankyou mani ratnam ji) BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!
H: and you want to become like him???
A: no sir don't wan't to become like him...i wan't to be known and wan't ppl to remember me as A and not ambani...
H: so if you work in a company u ought to show creativity, risk taking and also managerial skills why E then???why do you not wan't to work in some other's company...
A: it's difficult to get so many opportunities in any company and yes i'l be happy to get these opportunities...i'll be happy to work in there for some time but after gaining some more exp...BLAH BLAH...my business plans are also ready...(plans to ready hai poocho na)
H: (i mistook him to be harmless)...you forgot one quality leadership...
A: yes sir i forgot it( saale mujhe to 3 hi bolne ko bola tha na:neutral
H: can you tell me one leader who's impressed you a lot?
A: sir david gilmore...pink floyd...singer...guitarist...song writer...(boss i'm a musician ask me some questions on my strengths)
H: come back to india...koi leader...
A: thinking(didn't want to mention Gandhi...and my mind was choking that was the only name i was remembering)
H: so many leaders...why can't u name one???
A: sir so many names...difficult to name one...(do not say gandhi...think of some one else)
H: name one...
A : sir Gandhi...(kya yaar...:()
S: why gandhi???(knew this was coming)
A: sir blah blah...lage raho munnabhai...gandhian philosophies...
S: what philosophies???
A: solve a problem in the most simple and logical manner (thank god)!!!
S: so you've been working for 20 months...that's quite a long time...and you wan't to be an entrepreneur...why did u work at all???
A: 2 things i learnt in my company...1) proffessionalism and 2) social skills...how to deal with ppl...will help me open when i'm an entrepreneur...(a decent answer once again)
S: tell me abt ur work...
A: blah blah for a long time...initially S was interested and wanted to know a lot...i kept telling but gradually as i was moving onto technical aspects...he started getting bored...(we kept talking for around 5 mins)
S: any achievements...
A: Bak Bak Bak...
S: rewards???
A yes sir...(safeed jhooth...please don't ask for any certificates)
S: okay you may leave now and send the next person in

total interview lasted for 20 mins...tried my best to lead him towards my strengths but failed in all the attempts...and i felt relieved after i came out...and yes once again like others, for me also it was a feel good interview...no comments on what i feel...i hate speculations...GD-PI call bhi unexpected tha hopefully final call bhi aa jaye unexpected tareeke se...

ahhh....At last - 01-02-2007, 01:19 PM

Date 01.02.07
Venue Coffee Board,Bangalore
Slot 9 a.m.
Divided into 3 groups

Essay topic: Envoirnment-Whose responsibility?

decent topic,pretty one-sided...

GD topic : The rush for MBA is really a rush for big money....

decent performance, spoke well...gd seemed 2 fade off towards the end as points started to repeat(its a 1 hour gd!!!)..overall am satisfied...few points raised were really funny and totally off-track....overall good gd

PI : was the 4th to be interviewed
2 male profs, one seemed like a stud, both seemed to be really nice people,a common characteristic of all IIFT profs it seems
Short interview...asked me about what I would do if I were to design the budget(????????)...asked me to give 3 points..i thought and then said I couldn't. ...and a lot of other stuff...kept throwing quetions and cross questioning.....not a great feeling....am 2 zapped 2 write nething....lets c what happens....

All the best for your GD/PI's everybody
