First of all Congrats for getting admission at IIFM !!
All the seniors (including me) are busy in their Organizational Training and they are out of Campus these days. We left our campus on 12-15 th April and all of us will be back in the campus on 30th June to 2nd July. So, None of us were able to answer the queries which were asked at Pagalguy during these days...
I think u people will be reporting to IIFM on 19th June...
Now, ur query regarding Placements 2007.... This Year the average annual salary gone to Rs 6.7 lakhs including both national and overseas placements. Out of 3 overseas placements our seniors accepted only 2 and rejected one offer from Olam International (Highest salary paying organization). Highest domestic salary was Rs 7.5 L from NCDEX and lowest was offered by HDFC bank i.e. Rs 5.0 L. Highest International Offer was made by Olam i.e. US $ 55000.
Regarding the Job Profile, Yes u can start ur career in any of the fields say it in Marketing, Microfinance, Environment, Finance, even in IT right after passing out from IIFM. so dont worry...as no one from IIFM is going 2 join Forestry unless he/she is very much interested in Forest.
Further, I am providing u all, a complete information of how many of our seniors got what Job profile n where...
HDFC Assistant Manager 5 students
ICICI Bank ,, 7 students
ICICI Prudential ,, 7 Students
IndiaBulls (Financial Products) ,, 9 Students (Joining only 1 of them)
IMRB (Marktng research) Research 5 Students
Olam International Supply Chain Mng 2 (joining 1 of them)
Aditya Birla grp, (Laos unit) Asst Mngr 1
SKS Microfinance Area Mngr 1
NCDEX (commodities) 1
and many others............
all students got placed on Day 1 itself...
I think, that much information is enough for u to b happy after joining IIFM... If u have any further queries regarding anything at IIFM.. we seniors will guide u guys through, when we will be back in our campus..

Yes, the sectional cut-offs are generally around 55%ile. And till now, they have been the sole criterion for getting a call. Factors like workex, academics, extracurrics, etc. play their part only in the final evaluation. Of course, things can change, though I don’t think that’s very probable this year…
For the GD, u don’t need to prepare nething specially related to IIFM-related issues. The topics are general (My group, for one, was given the topic – Democracy is hampering India’s progress). Of course, in the PI, if u can differentiate urself from the rest by incorporating the environmental and social angles without sounding as if you have “learnt-by-heart” everything, you shud easily sail through. The calls will be out by Jan-end, and the process will start by mid-Feb.
Life here is pretty chilled out. The campus is beautiful… it’s on a hilltop surrounded on two sides by a lake, we have our own sunset point and rock paintings of prehistoric age, and really good infrastructure – an excellent library, a 24-hour computer centre in addition to LAN connection in the hostel rooms and Wi-Fi in the classrooms. Of course, many of the classes are boring, but the same professors who sound boring in the class prove to be of immense help in gaining practical viewpoints to academics. I tell u, if u have an explorative nature… if you like to research things out rather than being spoonfed, IIFM is just rite for you…
And about the jobs… well, they are clearly demarcated into three areas: Forestry, environment and development. Forestry is increasingly losing its shine in IIFM in favour of Environment and Development. Microfinance is a key area of jobs… u could get into ne mainstream MFI like ICICI, ABN Amro, HDFC, etc. Carbon is big business nowadays, and environmental finance is another key recruiting area through organizations like Carbon CO2e, NCDEX and others. This year, Indian Oil has recruited two students from our senior batch for their biofuels division. And of course, you can also get into the ‘original’ IIFM job avenues like NGOs, governmental agencies and other development concerns like TERI, IMRB, NIF, and other grassroots organizations. The pay will be in tandem with the career u choose. Forestry is the least payer (barring Olam) and Development is the biggest.
If you have read everything till here… YOU’RE GR8!!!

you can convert ur call even at percentiles as low as 78-79 if u do really well in ur gdpi and ppl above u in the merit list don't accept the admission. Keep ur fingers crossed! My topic for GD was "is democracy hampering India's progress?". Other topics (which I remember) during my time were... "Are we serious about our wildlife and environment?" and "Philosophy is an armchair policy... (or something like that)"...Prepare topics on a wide variety of subjects, and be particularly thorough with ur grad acads... Even local politics knowledge can help...All the best!
