::SIOM:: adMISSION 07 ~ Post your Queries here ~ -

WELCOME TO ALL SNAP ASPIRANTS
First & Foremost, our Best wishes for all those are appearing for SNAP 2007. Symbiosis Secratrait has started organizing these entrance exams a couple of years ago. SNAP has emerged as one of the big management entrance test with test takers growing every year.
There are almost 32 institutes that comes under the Brand name of Symbiosis and roughly 15 Management Institutes, who take admissions through SNAP Test.
SNAP Test is just to provide entrance criteria in these institutions and doesn't have any role in the admissions process. You have to individually apply for each & every Symbiosis Management Institutes separtely for admissions.
With good response from the SNAP aspirants last year on our Query thread, we are starting a fresh thread for the same this year too. This is a dedicated thread for queries regarding ADMISSION 2007-2009 in Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management, Nashik.
We will be posting details regarding our campus, admission process, placement scenarios in this thread in the following posts. If you have any query regarding the same, please shoot your questions in this thread ONLY. We will be answering the same at the earliest.
Note : This is NOT a thread for marketing SIOM. We are also students of this institute and none of us have any role in the management or admissions process. We are doing this for our fellow PG mates who are interested in our Institute.

Well, the industrial exposure is quite good as SIOM is situated in Nashik, a industrial hub of maharashtra. Apart from that, being in Nashik, we enjoy the benefit of getting industrial leaders from Mumbai & Pune too.
People like, Mr.Baba Kalayani, of Bharat Forge, Mr.Deepak Ghaisas of Iflex, Mr. Chavaan of Mahindra & Mahindra etc have visited our campus for Guest Lecture & CEO Meets.
Regarding the final placements, our first batch is yet to have their final placements and our placement week will be starting from Dec 11 of this year.
In the Summer Placement of the first batch, we have been accomodated in companies like Essar, MindTree, Anand Group, Essel Propack, GSK , General Motors, Mercedes Benz etc., and summers were 100 %.
Ofcourse, being a new institute we are not being listed in any of the magazines. But few months ago, BT has listed as the 4th best institute among the Symbiosis Institutes.
There quite few mechnaical companies that are under placement process. We can't say anything as of now. I can assure of more details after Dec 17 when our Placement week ends.

Thats great Mr. Skylork. so finally back with a bang.
nice to see a new thread for queries.
for tomyhot...placement results regarding the companies and the average pay packet would be disclosed on 17th by 20:00 hours and we will take care that this happens so that u can take a better judgement for applying or not to SIOM.
only thing i can assure is that no other institute in india has ever made such a breakthrough in the first year, like SIOM as far as placements are concerned.
SNAP results.... get the best out of everything. it would defnitely be a tough call. so do well.
thanks for your wishes and i also wish all the very best to skylork so that in near future he will be placed internationally.

Thanks Reddy. We hope to keep our commitments to the group regarding Placement scenarios , which at present are discreet. But as an insider, the companies that have registered themself for the ZERO day is quite good. As Reddy has already hinted, we are tapping on few international placements also at the First batch of SIOM. Whatelse you have to say ???
BTW , whomever joins in the new batch will be holding a Degree rather than a diploma from SIOM. As we all know Symbiosis International University has been aggregated with Deemed University status and now about 10 Symbiosis Management Institutes comes under this university.
Whats the big deal for you?
* You will get MBA Degree which is much more valuable than a PG
* You are recognized world wide with the network & brand name of Symbiosis
* All the courses will be innovative & at par with International Universities
* Infrastructure criteria will be made and they all be standardized across all the Symbiosis Institutes.

Dear Tomyhot,
SNAP is very important criteria in getting into any of the Symbi Institutes. So prepare well for the same. Unlike other Symbi Institutes, SIOM doesn't consider ONLY SNAP scores for shortlisting candidates for GD/PI. It depends on various factors and different weightages. Being a Techno-Commercial course, your academics, extra curriculars, work ex also plays an important role. No doubt initial screening is done based on the SNAP scores.
So prepare well .do well. All the Best

There are some sectional cutoff taken into consideration last year. But we are not sure to what extent it was used in shortlisting the students for GD/ PI. More over , as I have mentioned in my earlier post, the cutoff for SIOM is not determined based on SNAP alone. A decent cutoff guy with decent academics and good extra curriculars can also be called for GD / PI. There is some pattern & weightages given to all these parameters, which are not disclosed to anybody.
Regarding the PGDOM. I believe our website has not been updated yet on this issue. But with respect to the notification of Symbiosis International University, SIOM will be offering MBA degree from this year onwards and will be affliated to SIU from this academic year onwards.
Anyways, we will again check with our Admission Cell and clarify the details in this forum soon.
