Thanks Mr. skylork for letting me know about operations in IT. Came to know new things from IT operations. haha...this is the heights of specialization, ya iam not joking. iam a specialist in operations and further specialist in banking operations.
ashutosh u can see the depth involved in operations. just think about why u prefer HDFC or ICICI rather than an SBI or Union bank of india. its because u will have to die for getting service. the only difference is operations. better ops, better customer service and better profits for organization.
All this is a small view about operations in various sectors. u might be knowing a small drop of ocean in operations. and so u call it specialization but ops is a huge, vast subject of its own. u will get to know after u come here.
SAP runs on operations, DELL runs on ops, FEDEX runs on ops. literally every successful organization runs on it. BPR, Six Sigma, lean, JIT,Supply chain mgmt moves around the principles of operations.
My view is getting into operations will widen ur horizons. when u go to finance, marketing , HR, Systems ur limiting urself but not when ur in operations. I came to know this only after 15 months of experience in SIOM and with the way the companies are positive towards us.
good for me to stop here i think. i shut here.

OK now after all this......WHY NOT TO JOIN SIOM.
1. u will have to wake up at 6:30 AM
2. every monday exams
3. sunday classes for 7 hours continuously (not all sundays)
4. too many academic inputs
5. too less time to study
6. 60% pass mark
7. only 2 subjects allowed for diploma
8. only 1 time allowed to clear the backlog
9. fees for backlog is 300
10. should go to bed at 00:00 hrs
11. only veg food served in dining hall
12. M:F ratio would be less.
13. intime at gate is 22:00 hrs except for saturdays (23:00)
14. not too many sports facilities
15. nashik not like mumbai or pune
16. people who are allergic to beautiful climate all through the year.
17. yoga and workout compulsary
18. AND finally 90% attendance for appearing final exams.

some more could be added by skylork and madhu.
*** conditions apply. haha

Mr ravi....its practically not possible to elaborate the projects and experiences. we can only be facilitators. its up to u to get into the details and do the ground work. and moreover they would not much help for ur screening processes. browse through some of the websites and white papers and u would get the info in all the sectors.

Mr Harsh....u would never do the coding work. u will be as business analyst or process consultant. dont worry about programming and coding.

sorry guys if this post sounds u differently but all the summer details would not be relevant for the entry. they get into too many details and moreover confidentiality matters.

Skylork, Reddy and Madhusudhan
.. thanks a ton for all that gyaan.. i am overwhelmed
SIOM is not a new institute but i may be its newest fan !!
Mr Reddy the routine seems barbaric .. yet its the least we can do for an education !!
the details of operations management are amazing..
I guess finally you do have to specialize in a field and what better than operations management ...
people i am a chemical engineer from Panjab university.. i have one year of work ex .. the problem is that it in a financial bpo ... will that be a disadvantage.. me thinks it should not be as operations management finds a lot of application in the service sector..
and once more i really appreciate ure attitude guys .. with students and future alumni like you SIOM 's rise will be astronomical
and ppl the 22.00 hrs curfew .. i guess you can bend it a little bit no !!

Hi ashutosh,
it is not an institute is new or old tat matters, its all about whether it is matured enough to meet corporate wavelength or not matters. i mean there are possibletes tat newer insti. can also be matured ones.
if ur attitude towards education ( as u said,Mr Reddy the routine seems barbaric . . yet its the least we can do for an education !!..) remains same even after getting in to an insti. it will take u tro' successfuly. coz there are many cases where one likes to join with josh but he/she may not continue the same josh till the end so ultimatly he/she decide to quit.
ur work ex. definatly not a disadvantage but may not be plus point for u. we will discuss regadring this later now go for test (SNAP) with full charge.
yes Mr.asutosh ops.management in service industry did not find its appliction till last few years back but now every one knows its importence and finding its usefullness in each and every sector and each and every function.

ashutosh...the routine seems barbaric. very true. but now a days bschools like SIOM does not treat us students but like professionals. just imagine ur the GM of a company and then think what barbaric means and u might some times endup working 25 hours a day. this is just a training platform for all that u will face later.
as far as ur workex is considered just dont worry. we know how important is bpo in indian scenario. urs would defnitely be counted but again the competition is relative and not individual.
attitude really matters either in work or life. we being the pioneers in indian operations, feel that this institute is ours bcos, we have seen this grow and we have set the trend. we continue to do so.
22:00 hrs curfew? iam sure u will not have much to do later after that time. rather u will not find time to go out with ur schedules. but if u feel to bend it. our diro's doors are always open.

one important reason as to why u should not consider SIOM

VIPASSANA : most of u might have never heard this bcos i never, untill i came here.
a 11 day trip to one of the finest spots on earth (ofcourse just 50 km from SIOM) where u will know ur inner self. beware guys its not easy. u will be given only 1 square meal a day and ur not allowed to speak or do anything for 11 complete days. all u do is meditaiton.
same with girls also.
its a part of cirruculam and who ever cant accept this need not waste 1100.

As Reddy has said, VIPASSANA is a beautiful place for you to learn about controling yourself. The environment and the methodology they use to teach these practises will be amazing. But mind, these are also hard. Without any pain, there is no gain.

Apart from this, Art of Living in the Foundation course and everyday workout & yoga also part of the curriculum. And Attendance is compulsory for these, failing may lead to loss of marks in your exam.

Regarding the 22:00 gate lock & 00:00 switch off your lights , they are the policies made for the benefits of the students. Violating doesn't benefit you but may cause your wallet to get thin. So beware, before you do something out of the rules.

singing off da track...
