one more clarification......do we have sectional cuttoff in SNAP for getting call from SIOM.....???????? and what ll b minimum score for getting call fron SIOM(for freshers).....?????

and at last all the best for ur placement.....

hahaaa....tough question regarding scores. i dont really think that the sectorial does matter but overall score reall matters. try to concentrate much on all the easy questions and solve them rather than thinking for sectorial and wasting time in the exam. but i see a 10% chance for that also being considered.
regarding minimum scores.... this might be answer to everybody having this in mind. since this is a relative performance only the top few scorers would be shortlisted so try to be on top.
autonomous means it comes under symbi brand and not governed by anyother body regarding the internal affairs although it is approved by AICTE. something wrong in this statement of mine...i request others to correct me.

thanks for ur wishes.

A decent cutoff guy with decent academics and good extra curriculars can also be called for GD / PI. There is some pattern & weightages given to all these parameters, which are not disclosed to anybody.

Regarding the PGDOM. I believe our website has not been updated yet on this issue. But with respect to the notification of Symbiosis International University, SIOM will be offering MBA degree from this year onwards and will be affliated to SIU from this academic year onwards.

Anyways, we will again check with our Admission Cell and clarify the details in this forum soon.

Vyjayanthi....to many questions. let me clear one by one.

cutoffs for SIOM lesser than other institutes... we dont just go by cutoffs but other factors like workexp, acads, extra ciriculars etc will equally count. i mean to say this because a person cant be judged just from the 2 hour exam as anythign can happen, so we give more room for applicants to show themselves APART from snap. but snap would defnitely have due weightage.
job chances doing mba from SIOM... just wait to hear the good news. many of us are already on top. imagine a million rupees from a great MNC for a relevant workex. this is the status this year. anyting can happen 2 years down the line. and mind we are the first batch and we are the only dedicated institute for Ops in india.
congrats for being placed in CTS and WIPRO. but sad thing is u can never become a manager in the next 5 years with the profile they give for engineers. coding and programming isnt life. i dont underestimate engg as every seeOM here is an engineer.
should u apply for SIOM.....defnitely a BIG NO if u are not interested in OPERATIONS. and more over i dont want to compare SIOM with anyother institutes as we are in a niche. we are the best as far as ops in india is considered.
workexperience and then MBA..... great idea moreover i suggest this if u want to correlate business and work. but when freshers are invited u have to consider this also. organization need fresh minds to bring fresh ideas.

i think i have confused u. but the major challenge in business is to take decisions which is left to U.

heyy this thread started very recently, but has become so active! Great... :grab:

many discussions regarding cutoff, placements... its very good to see.
regarding my view on cutoff, i feel no one can say whether it will be lower than any other symbiosis institute or not coz the pace at which SIOM is growing is like tat.
yes, practicaly it may be less than SIBM or at par with SCMHRD's cutoff.

right said tht the cut off may not be less .. frankly as this institute is new i was hoping they may be lax on the admission part !!
anyway what is operations management about anyway
people say that it is not right to do a specialized mba... it limits your horizons
how true is that

Thanks you asked this question. I hope being half way in this course and have done my Summers in Operations, I can give an idea about what is operations is all about.

As people think, operations is not restricted to one particular domain or function. Its is there in every function and activity that is happening in an organization. Let me take an example of IT Operations.

Right from job creation till a project team is assigned , there comes the work for Operations manager. He will be responsible for getting the talents , measuring their performance, estimating the time periods, assinging teams to new projects, allocating resources(computers, workspace etc.,) to the new teams, co-ordinating with Delivery Head for client interaction and many more.

In a manufacturing, the typical work invovles right from procurement to order fulfillment. In logistics, finding out the best possible routes for transportation, assigning the right materials, etc.,

As my project was in IT operations, I have given in detailed. I hope my other friends will give mush more detailed view of operation in Banking & HR operations.

It is generally said, its not wise to be specalizied at Management level. But as far I see the future, everything is specialising. You tend to choose a particular domain when you enter into a particular stream of engineering.

Being generalist is not wrong, but same time, it doesn't give any focus. No offense, but thats the truth. People tend to be generalist to keep thier options open till the last moment they can survive. What I would say, is enter as a specialist in a domain, create your own niche market and when you grow higher & higher in the organization the specialisation atuomatically vanishes.

Its upto you to decide whether you want to be specialized in a course or to be more generalist.

And one more thing friend, its more than a year now and second batch is competing successfully for their summers and we are looking ahead of our final projects in best companies in India & abroad. We have established our presence by conducting National Operations summit, which was acclaimed by industry leaders across the world. I am not exxaggerating, but its true, by seeing the input what we got during that seminar, its truly global. I hope, SIOM is NO more a NEW INSTITUTE.

Hello Ashutosh,
skylork has already given clear view of Ops.management. as i know few things about selection process i would like to comment on ur first statement. i think u have wrong perception on selection process. in last year the process was very systamatic and scientific. i mean there is no huristic way of selection they fallow well designed assessment center.(its an HR practices in any industy). SIOM focus on getting best out of avilable.... after all we are operations people we belive in the need of better raw material for qality goods to produce.
